The F1 series is well known for its ease of access thanks to arcade-like assists, but it is also equally well known for the simulation aspects of gameplay that have been praised for accurately recreating the F1 experience.
Following the release of F1 2014 which received mixed reviews, F1 2015 is aiming for an enhanced and more accurate gameplay model. To help achieve this, Codemasters have developed an entirely new EGO engine for the game. Titled EGO Engine 4.0, this powerful new iteration of the engine will allow for more realistic damage and even more realistic in-game physics. Codemasters will also be using Ego Engine 4.0 to power two other upcoming titles, Dirt 4 and Dirt Rally.
F1 2015’s game designer Steven Embling has briefly touched on the subject of frame rate for the game, saying, “On console we’ve had it very, very close to 60fps, certainly on PS4,”
When it was confirmed that the PlayStation 4 build will be running at 1080p resolution while the Xbox One build will be 900p he said, “Everyone at the studio is doing a fantastic job with the optimization, and we’re in the final couple of months before release where there’s a big push that we hit that 60fps, and that’s the plan.”
When asked why the Formula One series has taken so long to transition to the current generation of home consoles, Embling said, “We had to do everything from the ground up. Our previous games, they were always building on what we had before and we had a stable platform they could build on. This time, with this game, we wanted to harness the power of the new consoles. In order to do that we had to start from scratch completely.”
F1 2015 will most likely follow the established Codemasters formula of rising through the ranks to become a racer of note. That having been said, forum posts for the game have pointed to it not having a Career mode.
F1 2015 will featured improved physics thanks to EGO Engine 4.0, and this will inherently improve the manner in which the cars are handled and how they respond to player input. Along with bonus content from the 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship, there will be a new championship season and Pro Season Mode. Online practice sessions will also be included to allow players to take on opponents online.
In a developer blog for F1 2015, Codemasters community manager Luke Spring described various voice recognition features. “Using the voice recognition technology available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles you’ll be able to interact with your race engineer like never before. Through in-game voice commands with Kinect for Xbox One and the PlayStation Camera or compatible headsets for PlayStation 4 you can ask for race info, updates on the weather, tyre status, request tyres and even front wing changes… And that is just a few of the many options available.”
At this time, a listing of race tracks and cars has not been made available.
Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.
