Gameplay
Ultraman Galaxy is a card collection and battle game where players can collect and manage cards so that they would be able to form a team that can battle in missions against multiple waves of enemies. Battles take place in a three by three grid where players can choose their strategy to attack each turn. This is represented by a slot machine type of control where the resulting grid will result in attacks and other actions being made.

Throughout the battle, enemies will also get the chance to attack once their counter runs out. If your team gets wiped out or if your AP reaches zero, then you will fail the round. Otherwise, players can get to proceed towards the campaigns where players can earn currencies as well as cards that can be used to help bolster their team.

Currency
There are three types of currencies within the game. The basic currency is gold, which can be earned by completing missions and defeating monsters. Coins are used for upgrading cards and morphing them so that they can become stronger. On the other hand, crystals are also won from time to time and may be given as rewards upon leveling up or via special offers. However, the main way to acquire these is via in-app purchases. Crystals are used to buy premium cards, extra coins, energy refills, and other special items. Both crystals and coins may also be rewarded as log in bonuses or by performing special tasks like watching videos and the like.

Friend Points are another type of currency which are earned by adding friends to your Friends list, among other methods. Friend Points, like crystals, can also be used to purchase higher level cards.

Leveling Up
Going into campaigns will earn players experience points that will then result in players to level up. Not only will leveling up earn players extra crystals, but this will also increase your overall stats such as maximum energy, the number of cards and friends that you can have, total cost capacity, and many more. Thus, the higher your level, the more campaigns you can participate in and the more powerful cards you can bring into your team.

Energy
Energy is a resource that is required to participate in missions. Each mission requires a certain amount of energy, which is why you should always make sure that you have enough to engage in campaigns. Energy regenerates over time, although premium currency can be used to refill it instantly.

Campaigns
Each campaign is divided into missions that are comprised of one or more wave of enemies. Participating in missions will require energy, and this will also give players the chance to earn additional cards, although players might need to play a mission multiple times in order to get all cards available. Players can have an additional friend that they can bring along in the fight, and they have the option to add that particular friend to their list later on.

There are also special events that are much harder but can yield better rewards. These events are timed, so players must prioritize completing these campaigns in order to gain the prizes upon completion.

AP
During battle, players are provided with Action Points, or AP, which are spent depending on the player’s discretion. AP is spent whenever players would like to select a line that would be considered when looking for matches, and the AP cost for this will be doubled should players choose to attack with double the strength. AP would also be spent whenever players would like to lock a specific tile so that it will not be changed during the next spin.

Theoretically, spending more AP will give players a better chance to deal more damage. However, there’s still a slim chance that there would be no matches made, so make sure to spend your AP sparingly especially if there are many waves that you haven’t faced yet. Alternatively, players can also allow the game to spin automatically, removing the need for user intervention to attack but will completely take strategy and control out of your hands, especially with regards to deciding if you would like to double your damage or use your cards’ skills.

Tiles
There are different kinds of tiles at play within the game, and all of these have different effects on how your cards perform during battle. Regular tiles have one to three punch symbols, and once a row of the same color appears, cards that have that color will then be able to attack. The number of symbols in the card will determine how strong the attack would be, with the weakest attack in the combination being followed.

There are also special tiles that can be matched with any attack tiles, as well as Wild Tiles that can be matched with any tile. Health tiles, on the other hand, will help players regenerate their health, which is diminished whenever enemies attack. Lastly, the Ultra card more or less behaves like Wild tiles, but have the added benefit of triggering your leader card’s leader skill. All of these should be put into consideration whenever players decide to lock certain cards, or if they want to risk having cards that are focused towards a certain elemental affinity.

Cards
Ultraman Galaxy features over five hundred different cards, ranging from aliens, monsters, to the Ultramen themselves. Each card has an elemental affinity, which is very important especially when matching tiles of a specific color, or if certain enemies are weak or vulnerable against a specific element. Each card also have attack and defense points, which would dictate how strong they are when attacking or sustaining damage.

Cards can be acquired in a variety of ways. They can be won via campaigns or bought outright using the different currencies available within the game. These cards can then be formed into teams of four or less, assuming that your maximum cost is not exceeded, as stronger cards will have higher costs that more commons ones. Making sure that you have teams that are compatible with each other is essential to have an easier time in tougher challenges.

Upgrading
Each card can also be upgraded so that their base stats can be boosted. This is done by sacrificing cards that you would otherwise not be using as well as spending some coins. Doing so will increase the card’s level. Maxed out cards may also be morphed to make them even stronger; however, this will cost a lot of coins to complete. Upgrading is a great way to be able to strengthen common cards so that they would be able to match up with stronger enemies, although rare or ultra rare cards that have not been upgraded can still be able to wipe them out.

Skills
Aside from elemental affinities, each card also has skills that can be triggered at specific times. Active skills have a certain cooldown period that may only be used after a certain number of rounds have passed. This is signified by the card having a glow during battle. Skills include having the ability to heal your teammates, dealing high damage to one or all enemies, or affecting tiles on the grid for a certain number of rounds. Skills also have the added benefit of not consuming a turn, which is very helpful especially if you are low on health or AP.

Leader skills are skills that are triggered when players are able to make Ultra matches. Only the leader card’s leader skills can be activated, which is why having a strong leader is beneficial to your team, aside from the fact that the leader also affects the chances of having attacks of a certain color appear during battle.

Missions
Ultraman Galaxy has story driven events as well as the timed events. The former allows players to earn currencies as well as extra cards from each area that they battle in, while timed events are campaigns that players must complete in order to get limited edition cards. Both would require energy and would also reward players with items, although timed events are much tougher and would require more effort to beat. Make sure that you have a good enough team before venturing into timed events, and this is done by completing as many regular campaigns as possible and bolstering your team and individual cards as high as you can. Of course, playing smart with your AP and your spins plays a very important factor as well.
