Battlefield 4 – Multiplayer [Guide]

When it comes to Battlefield, multiplayer is king. Battlefield 4 is the most
comprehensive multiplayer experience in a Battlefield game to date.

!NOTE!
If you are playing the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of Battlefield 4, then the
multiplayer will only have up to 32 players online. However, playing the game
on PS4, Xbox One, or PC will allow you to play with up to  64 players online.
Battlefield 4 does not support split-screen of any kind.

1. Game Modes
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
An FPS is only as good as its game modes, and Battlefield 4 has a suite of
game modes available to play. Here you can find all of the game modes that are
in the game as well as a brief description on how to play them and strategy.

The game modes in Battlefield 4 are categorized based on their size. There’s
three types of modes in Battlefield 4:  Massive, Medium, and Close Quarters.
These modes will start on maps that have been tailored for them. This also
determines how many players will be in any given match.

One of the trademarks of the Battlefield series is the ability to use vehicles
in combat. Some game modes allow vehicles and other modes simply do not allow
players to use vehicles. The modes that do allow vehicles and the modes that
do not allow vehicles are outlined below.

If you still need help figuring out how to play any of the game modes, you can
jump into a tutorial at any time when at the menu where you choose which game
type you want to play.

========
CONQUEST
========
TYPE: Massive
VEHICLES: Yes
There are numerous objectives on each map. These objectives all have a letter
designated to them. The goal is to control the most objectives for a longer
period of time than your opponents can. In Conquest, however, there is a whole
hell of a lot more going on than simply capturing the objectives.

Conquest is a “Massive” mode, so that means that there are tons of players
running around all at the same time. This gives multiple layers to the
experience. There will be enemies using vehicles to fight in the sky, ground
troops trying to sneak their way to objectives, and tanks demolishing the
competition.

Your job as a player is to first find which class suits you best. Once you’ve
narrowed that down, figure out how you like to play, whether or not you are
comfortable with vehicles, etc.

Conquest matches are very long, so expect to invest a lot of time before
hopping into one of these matches. Once inside, work with your team to go
after the objectives and don’t be a player that just runs around trying to
get kills instead of actually playing the game. No one likes that guy!

===============
TEAM DEATHMATCH
===============
TYPE: Close Quarters
VEHICLES: No
Team Deathmatch is all about killing the enemy team enough to win the game. It
really is that simple.

============
OBLITERATION
============
TYPE: Medium
VEHICLES: Yes
Both teams try to possess a bomb that is then used to blow up their enemies’
objectives. This mode has been seen in many FPS games before, so I am not
going to cover it very much. It is fairly self-explanatory.

====
RUSH
====
TYPE: Medium
VEHICLES: Yes
Another Battlefield staple, Rush is has two teams. One team is the Attackers
and the other team is the Defenders. The Attackers have a limited number of
lives. Their goal is to detonate the objectives.

The Defenders have to, as you probably figured out by now, defend the
objectives. Unlike the Attackers, the Defenders have an unlimited amount of
lives.

The round will end when the Attackers destroy all the objectives or the
Defenders kill all of the Attackers.

================
SQUAD DEATHMATCH
================
TYPE: Close Quarters
VEHICLES: Yes
A spin on Team Deathmatch, the twist is that there are four teams instead of
just two. This is a free for all between the four different teams, though the
teams are much smaller than they are in traditional Team Deathmatch.

==========
DOMINATION
==========
TYPE: Close Quarters
VEHICLES: No
Domination is a compact version of Conquest. They share similar objectives,
where the players are supposed to control areas of the map for longer than
their opponents, but the differences are the size of the map and the
amount of players.

======
DEFUSE
======
TYPE: Close Quarters
VEHICLES: No
A quicker version of Rush. There are no respawns at all for the Attackers in
this game mode, but there is also less objectives for them to destroy.

===============
AIR SUPERIORITY
===============
TYPE: Massive
VEHICLES: Yes
A game mode dedicated entirely to flying vehicles. Use jets and the like to
capture objectives and blast other jets out of the air.

================
CAPTURE THE FLAG
================
TYPE: Medium
VEHICLES: Yes
Capture the Flag is one of the most basic FPS games modes in the history of
FPS game modes. The premise is simple. Each team has a flag. The goal of your
team is to steal the enemy’s flag and return it to your own flag. The enemy
has that same goal as well. If your flag is not at your base, you are unable
to score a point. It may be wise to have someone protecting your flag at all
times while other players go out to steal the enemy flag.

2. Maps
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Battlefield 4 has a variety of maps available. These maps are of varying
size; not all of them will be available for every game mode.

Battlefield 4 also has DLC available called China Rising. This DLC adds even
more maps to the game. Future DLC called Second Assault, which recreates fan
favorite maps from older Battlefield games, has already been announced.

3. My Soldier
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Battlefield 4 is all about creating the perfect soldier to take out into the
multiplayer battlefield. There are four different classes all with their own
unlockables and progression systems. There are vehicles, plenty of different
weapons, awards, dog tags, and more.
