Titanfall is one of the most highly anticipated games of all time. Releasing
exclusively on PC and Xbox, Titanfall is the first game from the developers of
the best Call of Duty games since their split with Activision. Now the studio
known as Respawn Entertainment, Titanfall looks to change shooters just like
Call of Duty did back in the day.

2. Training
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
If you are having troubles with the basics of Titanfall, you can go back to
the tutorial at any time. However, I am going to go through the tutorial
step by step anyway so that way you can just refer to these notes in case you
forget how to do something in the game.
=======================
WELCOME TO THE FRONTIER
=======================
The very start of the game will have you go through a tutorial of sorts so
that you can train yourself in the basics of how to play Titanfall. This
tutorial can be replayed at any point in the main menu by choosing the
“Training” option, and you can choose to skip ahead to the pilot training,
do the full training, or only do the Titan training if you’d like.
To start the training simulator, first press X. Next up is the visual
calibration process. To complete this, look at the red light at the top of
the screen first and hold your look there until the light turns blue. Then
look down at the other red light and keep your look trained there until
that light turns blue as well. This will then take you into the simulation.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 01
========================
The first training module deals with basic movement. First just move around
by using the left stick. Then move through the next hall. In the subsequent
hall, you have to sprint. In order to sprint, push in the left stick (unless
you have automatic sprint on).
There will then be an obstacle in your way. Press A to jump over the obstacles
in the game. To get across the large gap, sprint to it and then press A for a
long jump. Then climb up on the next ledge by looking up at it, pushing against
the wall, and then pressing A. This will make your pilot climb up the ledge.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 02
========================
Wall-running is the next lesson on deck. To wall run, throw yourself into a
wall and press A, basically. You can keep running along the wall by pushing
forward on the stick, or you can jump off the wall by pressing A. Use wall
run to get through this area.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 03
========================
Now you have to use wall-running to get through the area. Just stay on each
wall as long as possible before jumping to the next wall. Keep going like this
and you’ll reach the end of the room in no time flat.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 04
========================
The next lesson is about double jumping, which is a concept that should be
familiar with every gamer out there. To double jump in Titanfall, just tap A
twice. Use double jump to get across the first gap.
The second gap is longer, so you need to jump over to the next ledge, but
wait to hit A for that boost in your jump until the last second in order to
successfully make it across. Then just jump through the hole in the ceiling
and you can complete this room.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 05
========================
Now you have to use your double jump and your wall-running in tandem to get
to the next objective. In the first room, jump onto the large tank that is
sitting in the center. Double jump off the tank to the next ledge and then
you can move forward on the catwalk.
To your right, there will be a wall that is suspended from the ceiling. Use
the wall run ability against that suspended wall and then leap from the wall
to exit the room.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 06
========================
Cloaking is one of the special abilities that you can have equipped on your
pilot during the game. To activate a special ability, tap LB. Cloaking can be
very helpful because it makes you invisible.
There’s a group of enemies that are guarding the next room. Activate cloak
and sprint through the room. The reason you want to sprint is because your
cloaking ability is finite and will run out the longer that you have it
activated.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 07
========================
Now it’s time to learn about some of the basic combat in the game. Walk up
behind the first enemy and push in the right stick to snap his neck. Then
equip your Smart Pistol by pressing Y. Reload the Smart Pistol by pressing X.
Get close to the next enemy. Do not aim down the sights. Just hover the cursor
over the enemy and the targeting will be done automatically. Now pull RT to
take him out.
In the next room, you will be standing above four enemies. Point the Smart
Pistol at them and then they will all be targeted. Pull RT after doing this
to kill them all very quickly.
Finally, you will have to target a single enemy multiple times. This is
necessary for killing enemy pilots in matches using the Smart Pistol most of
the time. Just keep the weapon trained at his back until the targets turn
red. This means that you have fully targeted him. Pull RT to take him out.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 08
========================
Right off the bat in the shooting range, press Y to switch from the Smart
Pistol to the rifle. Aim down the range by pulling LT. Use the rifle to kill
all the Spectre Robots. You get some praise if you do this without ever having
to switch out magazines.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 09
========================
Throw grenades in the windows. To throw grenades, press RB. You will know
when you’ve successfully thrown a grenade through the window because the light
above the window will go out to indicate this to you.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 10
========================
Kill the enemies that are dropped off in any manner that you wish. Then a
Titan will be summoned. Switch to your Anti-Titan weapon by pressing the left
direction on the d-pad. Use it to kill the enemy Titan. It is a good idea to
stay behind cover during this section.
When that Titan is destroyed, you can summon your own Titan to use. Press down
on the d-pad to summon it. To get inside your Titan, approach it and then hold
X. Once inside the Titan, more enmies will be dropped off. Kill them using
your Titan.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 11
========================
Next you have to learn how to dash. To dash in a Titan, push the left stick
in any direction and tap A. But for the tutorial, first dash forward. Then to
the left. Then to the right. Then backward. You will have to wait for your
dashing ability to recharge, represented by the two blue bars that will pop
up in the middle of the screen after you perform a dash successfully.
In the next hallway, there will be missiles fired at your Titan. Move forward
and then as SOON as you hear the robotic noise that indicates the missiles
are about to be fired, dash to the left or right. Then start moving down the
hallway further, and do the same thing.
After you’ve dodged the second wave of missiles, you don’t have to worry
about any more missiles coming after you, so exit the room.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 12
========================
The Vortex Shield ability is just one of numerous abilities that you can have
equipped to your Titan, but it is the default one like how the Cloak ability
is the defaault special ability for the pilots.
At any rate, hold LB to activate the Vortex Shield and move down the hall.
The enemy titan at the end of the hallway will start firing at you. Keep LB
hold down to catch all of the bullets with the shield. Once the enemy titan
stops firing, release LB to send all of his bullets back at him!
You can stomp on the smaller enemies here if you’d like, but exit the room
when you’re ready to continue.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 13
========================
The titan has two different AI modes, which you have to experiment with now.
First of all, leave your titan by holding X. Then go into the nearby control
room and approach the control panel. Hold X to hack into the controls, which
will in turn lower the forcefield and allow your titan through.
To make your titan go through, push down on the d-pad. This will switch it
from its current state “guard” to “follow”. Return to your titan and hop back
in to continue.
========================
PILOT TRAINING MODULE 14
========================
The final battle! You have to do battle with enemy titans using the skills
you’ve learned so far in numerous waves. After you’ve destroyed the first
enemy titan, the other ones are just bonus enemies. You can keep destroying
them, and then they will respawn with more powerful weapons and abilities to
keep it tough.
This module teaches you about titan shields. The titans are requipped with
shields that can recharge, but damage sustained while their shields are down
will not recharge.
By the way, whenever the tutorial cuts in to explain these concepts to you,
the enemy titans will take a knee. You can’t reload when this happens, but
you can still beat the hell out of them if you’d like.
When your titan eventually is too damaged to continue, you have to mash on the
X button to eject. Your pilot will be shot into the sky, and then you will
have to wait for the tutorial to just end itself…you don’t get to keep on
fighting the remaining titans, unfortunately.

3. Campaign
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Titanfall features a “campaign” mode that is a series of multiplayer matches
that have added story elements to them not found in the other multiplayer
matches that you can play in the game.
The campaign has two sides, the Militia and the IMC. Once you start a campaign
on one side or the other (you do not get to choose, though it will alternate
between IMC and Militia for you), you have to complete the campaign missions
all the way on that side before you can start over and redo levels you already
did or play for the other team. The exception to this is if you are in the
party of someone that has already started the campaign on the other team.
It doesn’t matter if you win or lose the campaign missions; you will just go on
to the next.

4. Classic
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Standard Titanfall gameplay. This type of gameplay is basically the main
set of multiplayer lobbies and it doesn’t have the story stuff that is
featured in the campaign, so it is a lot less restrictive, allowing for
random maps based on the type of match you’ve chosen to play.
=========
ATTRITION
=========
Attrition is like Team Deathmatch, except there are a ton of bots running
around the field as well. You get points for your team by killing bots, but
you get the most points by killing human-controlled players and Titans.
===================
LAST TITAN STANDING
===================
Everyone spawns in a Titan. When one team has all of their Titans completely
eliminated, they lose, even if they still have pilots running around the field.
Teams play rounds until one team reaches 4. First to 4 wins the game.
=========
HARDPOINT
=========
There are three points on the map, labeled A, B, and C. The goal here is to
take over and defend each other. The more bases that you have conquered, the
more points your team will earn every few seconds.
================
CAPTURE THE FLAG
================
Capture the Flag is pretty self explanatory. There are two flags on the map,
your flag and the enemy flag. The enemy has to deliver your flag to their flag
while it is still at their base to get the point, and vice versa. If you kill
the enemy that has your flag, you can touch your flag to return it to your
base automatically. This game mode is split into halves, with multiple
rounds.
============
PILOT HUNTER
============
Like Attrition, except the only kills that count are Pilot (or human controlled
characters) kills. You can still kill the various bots, in the form of grunts
and spectres, and earn XP and complete challenges by doing so, so it is still
definitely worth your time to kill the bots as well.
============
VARIETY PACK
============
Variety Pack is what you should go to if you have yet to experience everything
there is to experience in Titanfall. The match types will keep changing and
the maps will keep changing as well so you are always doing something new and
different in the Variety Pack playlist.

5. Pilots
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Pilots are the human-controlled characters in Titanfall. You earn more points
for killing pilots than you do killing the grunts or bot-controlled characters
encountered in the many multiplayer matches that you will undoubtedly play
in the game.
Each pilot has a variety of customization options so that you can edit their
loadout to best match your style of play.
==============
PRIMARY WEAPON
==============
The primary weapon is your main weapon that you start out with in each match.
You can carry two primary weapons at once if you swap your secondary weapon
with a primary weapon dropped by enemies during a match.
By completing challenges relating to the specific weapon, you can unlock
new attachments for the weapon. Most of the weapons are locked at the start of
the game. To unlock them, you have to reach certain levels.

=================
ANTI-TITAN WEAPON
=================
Anti-Titan weapons are equipped with the d-pad. They are extremely useful
when fighting against…you guessed it, enemy titans! They come in a variety
of shapes and sizes. They do not have any fancy attachments for you to
add to them, though.
These are the Anti-Titan Weapons in Titanfall (and what level you can unlock
them):
Archer Heavy Rocket
Sidewinder
Mag Launcher – Level 22
Charge Rifle – Level 33
=======
SIDEARM
=======
Pilots also spawn with a sidearm. Sidearms can be equipped by pressing Y to
switch away from your primary weapon. Since sidearms are pretty weak, if you
find an enemy primary weapon on the battlefield, it is not necessarily a bad
idea to switch out your sidearm for their primary weapon.
The sidearms do not have any attachments that you can add to them. These are
the sidearms found in the game. One of the three is locked until you reach
the specified level:
Re-45 Autopistol
Hammond P2011
B3 Wingman – Level 27
================
TACTICAL ABILITY
================
By pressing LB, you can activate a special ability for your pilot to utilize
during matches. There are three of these abilities that can be equipped,
though they must be unlocked by leveling up.
Cloak – Invisibility
Stim – Move faster, regenerate health faster
Active Radar Pulse – See enemies through walls
========
ORDNANCE
========
No smart pilot leaves the dropship without plenty of ordnance to help him
out! Ordnance is deployed by pressing RB, and mainly consist of explosive
weaponry. Again, some of the ordnance needs to be unlocked by leveling up in
the game.
Frag Grenade
Arc Grenade – Less damage, distort vision of titans and pilots
Satchel Charge – Sticks to surfaces and are manually detonated
Arc Mine – Proximity mine that sticks to surfaces, plus distorts vision of
titans and pilots
==========
TIER 1 KIT
==========
In addition to all of the equipment listed above, pilots have access to perks.
One perk can be equipped at a time, and again, some of them will be locked
until you reach the appropriate level in the game.
Enhanced Parkour Kit – Wallrun and Wallhang for longer
Explosives Pack – Increases ordnance capacity
Power Cell – Accelerates the recharging of your Tactical Ability
Run N Gun Kit – Fire small weapons while sprinting
Quick Reload Kit – Accelerates reload speed
Stealth Kit – Silent footsteps and invisible jetpack exhaust
==========
TIER 2 KIT
==========
The Tier 2 Kit deals with more perks, though this time there are some that also
have to do with your Titan before you actually enter the cockpit.
Again, you will need to level up to unlock all of these available perks.
Dome Shield Battery – Dome Shield lasts longer after Titanfall
Minion Detector – Friendly and enemy Grunts and Spectres appear on radar
Warpfall Transmitter – Titan is deployed faster
Dead Man’s Trigger – All explosives detonate upon your death
The ‘Icepick’ – Hacking is sped up
Guardian Chip – Auto Titan engages enemies with improved accuracy\

6. Titans
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
The main hook of Titanfall is the ability to summon these large mechanized
units called Titans from the sky. You gain the ability to do this by getting
kills in the match, which will speed up the countdown clock that governs
when you can summon your titan.
Once your titan has been deployed, you can have it be in guard or follow mode,
or you can enter it and take full control of the titan yourself. The titan,
much like the pilots, has a number of different aspects about it that can be
customized.
The Titans come in three distinct flavors. There’s the Atlas, the Stryder,
and the Ogre. They all have access to the same weapons, but their abilities
on the battlefield are slightly different, their skills are different, and
they have different “Core Abilities”, which can be utilized to greatly
increase their power or defense or whatever else.
Right off the bat, you can play as any of the three types of titans. However,
once you earn the ability to customize your titans by leveling up, you will
only be able to customize the Atlas class until you’ve completed the campaign
missions. You need to play through the campaign once to unlock the ability to
customize Stryder titans and you need to complete the campaign for both the
IMC and the Militia side to unlock the ability to customize the Ogre titan.

==============
The Atlas, Stryder, and Ogre all have access to the same pool of weaponry.
The weapons are unlocked simply by leveling up. The primary weapon of the
Titan function similarly to the primary weapon of the pilot in that they can
switch out, but the titans do not have sidearms. They do have “off-hand
weapons” that are filed away in the Ordnance category, but more on that in a
little bit.

================
TACTICAL ABILITY
================
Just like pilot’s have special abilities that can be activated by pressing LB,
titans also have special abilities! And they are activated in the same manner,
just press LB. Level up to unlock all the possible tactical ability options
for titans (there are three), but keep in mind that you can only have one
equipped at a time.
Vortex Shield – Catch projectiles and throw them back at enemies
Electric Smoke – Deploy electrically charged smoke, mainly used to get rid of
enemy pilots that have boarded your titan
Particle Wall – Shield that blocks enemy fire but allows you to shoot out from
the other side of it
========
ORDNANCE
========
Titans have access to “off-hand” weaponry in place of sidearms. They are
labeled as ordnance in the Titan customization menus. There’s four different
options. Level up to unlock them all. Use these weapons by pressing RB, but
they do have to recharge after using.
Rocket Salvo – Send out a burst of rockets
Slaved Warheads – Target and fire homing missiles
Cluster Missile – Explodes into more explosives
Multi-Target Missile System – Targets numerous enemies at one time
==========
TIER 1 KIT
==========
These are the first set of perks that can be equipped on your titans. Level up
to unlock them all.
Nuclear Ejection – Titan blows up after ejection
Regen Booster – Shields regenerate faster
Fast Autoloader – Ordnance reloads faster
Dash Quickcharger – Dash reloads faster
Tactical Reactor – Tactical Ability recharges faster
==========
TIER 2 KIT
==========
More perks for the titan, but just like how the Tier 2 Kit for pilots deals
more with how pilots interact with titans, this deals with how titans relate
to pilots, primarily. Level up to unlock all of the (very helpful) tier 2
perks.
Auto Eject – Automatically ejected when titan is about to blow up
Survivor – Titan loses health slower when critically injured
Core Extender – Core Ability lasts longer
Big Punch – Melee power significantly increased
Core Accelerator – Core Ability charges faster

At level 7, you unlock the ability to use Burn Cards. Burn Cards can be chosen
after you die. You can take a total of three with you into each match (assuming
you are high enough in level), and you get the option to activate one after
every time that you are killed in the match.
Burn Cards can help you in a number of ways. Some of them allow you to respawn
with a more powerful version of an existing weapon. Others allow you to earn
extra XP by killing pilots. Others reduce the time it takes to rebuild your
titan. Some will improve your special abilities and other perks that you may
have equipped.
You earn burn cards simply by killing enemies, completing challenges, and
doing whatever else. The effects of a Burn Card will last until you die or
until the match ends.
Here is how you navitage the Burn Card menu:

9. Stats

A big part of Titanfall is keeping track of how well you are doing and how
well you have been doing total throughout all of your time playing the game.
You can check your Last Game Summary quickly from the lobby menu, but if you
dive deeper into the Personal Stats, you’ll find a lot more information that
is worth nothing.
All of this can be found under Personal Stats:
Overview
Kill Records
Time
Distance
Pilot Weapons
Titan Weapons
Misc
These stats are useful in keeping better track of how much exactly more you
have to do in order to fully complete some of the challenges that are in the
game.
