If you’re looking for the best games for the iPhone this year, then this list will certainly help. We’ve chronicled the top ten games, which range from strategy and action to puzzles and RPGs. Due to the popularity of the iOS ecosystem, there’s all sorts of games for every sort of gamer on the operating system.

10. Monument Valley

In Monument Valley, you guide a silent princess through impossible architecture, manipulating the world as you see fit to get her to progress to the next area. The game makes heavy use of optical illusions and feels like an homage to M.C. Escher.

9. The LEGO Movie Video Game

In this game, players take on the role of Emmet, the protagonist of the LEGO Movie. Emmet, the most ordinary LEGO minifig imaginable, must undertake an epic adventure to save the world—a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously unprepared.

8. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a recreation of the GTA: San Andreas that was released on the PC and console. Developed exclusively for the iPhone, and iPad devices, GTA SA is a colorful and detailed game that plays incredibly well despite its obvious limitations.

7. Worms 3

Worms is like the great granddaddy of slingshot/ballistic games, and Worms 3 for the iPhone is a true successor to the series. This detailed follow-up to Worms 2: Armageddon has been designed exclusively for the iOS and allows players to play online with an asynchronous multiplayer mode.

6. Infinity Blade 3

The third game in Chair's and Epic Games’ longstanding series of swipe-action role-playing games, Infinity Blade 3 takes the series’ visuals to the next level by harnessing the raw power of the latest iPhone and iPad devices.

5. Bastion

Bastion for the iOS may be a bit dated at this point in time—especially if you’ve already played it, but it remains one of the best action games on the iPhone to date. Coupled with some decent upgrading mechanics and a storyline that will have you in tears, Bastion is not a game you want to miss.

4. The Silent Age

The Silent Age is a point and tap adventure game that takes place in two settings across time—and is set in both 1972 and 2012. The game’s writing is well worth picking the game up for.

3. Vainglory

This multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) gets its inspiration from the likes of League of Legends and DOTA 2. Offering state of the art graphics (for the latest iPhone, anyway) and three-on-three team-based action, Vainglory is the game to get if you’re aching for some online player-versus-player combat. The game is fun, and remarkably enough, it’s also free.

2. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies

Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, Dual Destinies is a text-adventure title by Capcom that sees the adventures of lawyers Athena Cykes and Phoenix Wright defend Juniper Woods, a girl accused of bombing a courtroom. Like the rest of the Ace Attorney games, this one’s heavy on text and has a great story.

1. The Banner Saga

This viking epic made waves on the PC when it was first released, and has since then been ported to iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad, bringing with it true tactical RPG gameplay coupled with an in-depth storyline that’ll see all of the decisions you make affect the narrative and its outcomes.
