Extinction is the game mode in Call of Duty: Ghosts where players work together cooperatively to fight off an alien invasion. The “Invasion” DLC adds a new map for the game mode called Awakening. There has also been a new mode within Extinction to play called “Chaos Mode”, which I will also discuss in this guide.

==========
AWAKENING
==========
Awakening changes the way that Extinction is played in a couple of different ways. For one, there is a different level of gravity in the Awakening map. You can jump much higher than in previous games.

There’s also a new overall goal. Instead of using the drill to destroy hives, you use the drill to scan the obelisks that are scattered throughout the map. You still place the drill in front of the obelisk like usual, except now the drill will scan the obelisk in front of it instead of destroying a hive.

Awakening adds a number of achievements to Call of Duty: Ghosts as well. These are the achievements that Awakening adds to the game:

A Bridge to Somewhere (20G) – Extend the bridge in Awakening in Regular or Hardcore difficulty
Awakening Completionist (30G) – Complete all Challenges and escape Awakening in Regular or Hardcore difficulty
Dog Fight (20G) – Kill a Gargoyle with the Vanguard in Awakening in Regular or Hardcore difficulty
Egg-stra Awakening! (20G) – Complete the Egg-stra XP challenge and then scan an obelisk in the Invasion DLC package
Escaped Awakening (30G) – Escape Awakening for the first time in Regular or Hardcore difficulty
Like A Glove (30G) – Kill 5 cryptids with the Ark attached to every compatible weapon in Awakening in Regular/Hardcore
Spelunker (20G) – Find all of the Intel in Awakening
Targets Acquired (20G) – Get past the first gate in Awakening in Regular or Hardcore difficulty
Twice the Fun (30G) – Escape Awakening using two Relics in Regular or Hardcore difficulty
Well Rounded (30G) – Escape Awakening with each of the four classes in Regular or Hardcore difficulty

CHAOS MODE
===========
New to Call of Duty: Ghosts is the Chaos Mode. This mode lets you choose any of the Extinction maps to play on, and then it just relentlessly throws aliens at you. The goal here is to kill the aliens as fast as possible and collect the eggs that they drop.

By collecting the alien eggs, you will refill your score multiplier. If the multiplier returns to zero, you lose all of your perks. Perks are gained by killing aliens fast, so kill them as quickly as possible to keep earning perks. The more perks you have, the easier it becomes to kill the aliens. Of course, stronger aliens will start to show up the farther you get in this mode.
