Naughty Dog is never going to create an open world game like GTA 5 or Skyrim, but they are going to explore some of the aspects of such titles with Uncharted 4 – A Thief’s End.
Ever since his inception, Nathan Drake has been an explorer. He has never stopped at anything and loves to get into dangerous adventures. But, the problem with the previous games is that they used to run on old hardware that doesn’t support so much open world exploration. The same is not the case with PS4 which is why the developers are looking at allowing Nathan to explore the world, at least to a certain extent.
Jeeps and Other Vehicles
As a player, you will have some freedom even though Uncharted 4 will have a strong focus on single player narrative experience. Jeeps will be one of the most popular and repeatedly found vehicles in the game. Players can mount them, drive them along the map to explore nice locales before coming back to continue the story.
“It is not going to be open world by any means. We never wanted the game to look like that. But, our idea is to let the players control some of the actions and not forced into the story. They can drive the jeep when not in a mission and see some nice places. It allows them to invest into the world and feel driven by the enthusiasm that Nathan has”, said the developers.
They have made the world more open than ever before. The world will be open enough to allow the players to hop onto a jeep and sometimes even a bike; we assume and explore the lands at great distances. They can drive really long, jump on huge areas and even drive through the streets, scaring those walking through them. But, it is limited and the developer wants you to know that it’s not an open world.
Cover System
The cover system has been greatly improved which allows Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4 to take cover based on the size of the object available. If there is just a table, he will duck behind it. If there is a wall, he stands and he won’t crawl unless the space is too less to accommodate his body. Blind firing will play a role in combat as he could shoot his enemies randomly to subdue them before moving to another cover and plan their next strategy.
