Once you get into the game itself, the controls have more nuances than even most console games have, especially if you pick classic mode instead of touch mode. Pause the game and hit the “help” button to see what all of the various tricks that you can do are. There are more control tricks here than even Street Fighter games have, so refer back to this page often to know what to do.

When in the Ultimate Team mode, you can play in many different types of games. As previously mentioned, the quick game is a simple, easy game against a team of your picking. The season mode allows you to play against a predefined list of teams in a simulated football/soccer season, one team at a time. Each game varies in difficulty, but all of the games have predefined difficulty levels. You will win a trophy for completing a season.

Tournaments are totally optional to join, and can be easier or harder than a season mode, depending on what tournament you choose. Each tournament has a certain prize that you can win by winning the tournament – usually, this consists of coins, although sometimes, this will consist of card packs as well.

It is even possible to run more than one football squad at the same time. To do this, go to the Squad Builder or the Manage Squads mode, and you can start a whole new squad, while also keeping your old squad. Having two squads can be a good way to constantly hunt for coins, although it is entirely unnecessary, and the game can be played without it.

Managing your squad can be done in the “squad” tab. You can substitute out players here, or you can find out how your consumable cards work. Player cards are not the only cards that have a value to them. Your players lose energy every time that they participate in the game, so fitness cards can be used to get that energy back. Players all play off of contracts every time that they play, and contract cards can be used to sign a player for more games. Training cards can be used to boost the statistics of a player. These cards are best used on gold cards, and sometimes even on silver cards.
