Other purchases in the main store include treasure, resources, shields and decorations. Resource purchases include gold and mana, but not HB or Hero Shards (another extremely rare form of currency). Treasure purchases are done with real money, and will get you more of the purple stone (which is referred to in the game as either Gems or Treasure depending on where you are). Shields will protect your base for a set amount of time, while decorations allow you to style your base however you want to.

The heroes’ altar and hero bases are where this game differs from anything else in its genre. You can purchase a hero at the altar using gems, HB (honor badges), or hero shards. Hero shards are almost as rare as gems, but you can’t buy them – you can only win them in the single player dungeon mode. HB are earned from the arena as well as from PvP and PvE battles.

Once you purchase a hero, place them in the hero base and they will become useable in battle and in the arena. As they are used in more battles, they will gain experience points, thus increasing their attack, defense, speed and health. Once a hero is killed in battle, they will take a few minutes to recover, with the recovery time increasing slightly for each level that they gain. Once they hit level 20, you will have to go back to the altar and upgrade them using HB and gold.

There are two different types of battles. Standard battles involve both your army and your heroes. The method is similar to in Clash of Clans and similar games – you tap the screen to send your troops in, and they will attack on their own. The big difference between Castle Clash and other games, though, is that in this game the troops that don’t die in battle will return to your army camps, and be ready for use in future battles.

The other is the arena battle. Arena battles will pit your heroes against the enemy’s heroes. Only five heroes can be used at a time, so you have to be smart and use the strongest heroes that you have, with the highest rarity. Whoever can destroy the other’s crystal first is the winner. As your rank increases, so will the hourly collection of HB from the arena.

As you upgrade your army camps you will be able to hold more troops, and as you upgrade your town hall, you will be able to build more army camps, which increases your might rating (in the upper left hand corner of the screen) and (obviously) increases the size of your potential army by a wide margin. More hero bases can be built as you upgrade your town hall, as well.
