Spell Quest: Grimm’s Journey is an excellent iOS and Android RPG that has been winning game-of-the-week honors at various locations, and here in the WriterParty cellblock office it’s been one that’s considered particularly tough to put down. In Spell Quest: Grimm’s Journey you play as the Grim Reaper, and your goal is to quest through stages and defeat ghosts by spelling words. Words are worth certain damage scores according to letter rarity and word length, so strategy is key. Read on for tips and tricks or Spell Quest: Grimm’s Journey!
Always watch out for the word hints that pop up on the bottom of the screen before each round, because oftentimes, they will tell you about words that you wouldn’t think to check for. For example, “ZZZ” counts as a word, as does “Qua”, and many foreign language words also count. Get creative when you want to try to obtain high damage scores.
Playing on a tough stage? Go back to one of the easier stages. Not only will this allow you to play for more gems (the currency of the game), but you will also be able to spend your gems on power-ups and healing items, then take them into battle with you against tough enemies. Being as gems are not a “premium” currency, you will have plenty to spend on power ups.
Take those gems that you earn and upgrade your character’s attack, defense and health in the store. To earn gems rapidly, complete quests as quickly as possible. To see waht you have left, go to the quests screen. You’ll always have three quests at a time; as soon as you beat one quest, another one will pop up.
Go to the book store for some excellent equipment as well. One of the best types of books is the wealth book, which causes monsters to drop 4% more gems (thus paying for itself very quickly). Otherwise, you can get health and damage boosts of various sorts.
Still if you want to earn more gems, make sure to save at least one big word for the end of the stage, where you have to spell a word to attack the gem pile. The bigger and better the word that you spell, the more blue and red gems that you will get from the pile. Blues are worth 10 and reds are worth 20.
