Fish & Shark is a new endless-swimmer game for the iPhone and iPad. In this beautifully boxy polygon-loaded gem, you play as either the good fish or the bad shark (almost in time for Shark Week, no less), with different advantages and different challenges afforded to either character that you pick. Your only goal is to swim as far as you can and gain as many points as you can. Read on for some tips and tricks for Fish & Shark!
When you are playing as the good fish, the game will go by a whole lot slower. Jumps will be slower and easier to control, which makes it much easier to chain combos together in order to get over all of the obstacles that you need to pass. Plus, in this mode, your score increases faster. When you play as the bad shark, the game goes about twice as fast, as do your jumps, and your score increases at about half the speed. Play as the good fish for practice first.
The most important way to succeed is to time your jumps perfectly. You can either execute a short jump or a really long Michael Jordanesque half-flight half-jump, depending on how long you hold down on the screen when you jump. Vary these jumps depending on where you judge the obstacle to hit, but always let go after you pass it unless there is a short obstacle right behind a long obstacle, so that you can jump over both of them at the same time.
The way to increase your score is to collect the lilypads that tend to sit either right at the top of a jump or right after the obstacle that you are trying to jump over. They are far easier to collect when you play as the good fish. If you play as the bad shark, you have to time your jump to be as low as possible if you want to collect them proficiently.
You’ll advance to a new section of the stage when your shark changes directions (up instead of right, etc). If you die on the new section, hit the play button again and you’ll start at the section change. If you fail to advance again, though, you will be moved back one section.
The stages never change. However, as you reach new sections, the game will start placing you at random sections of the stage when you restart. Once you go back to the menu section, though, you will lose that progress and will start from the beginning until you unlock the new sections all over again.
