Dragons Dogma Review

I recently attended the San Diego Comic Con 2011 where I was able to experience some hands on game play of the Action-Rpg game coming out next year Dragon’s Dogma. This game has been developed by Capcom and will be available for the Ps3 and Xbox 360 in March 2012. At the Comic Con there were 2 different demo’s that I could choose from that had either a castle fight or open field battle with a Griffin. I played the Castle mission as that was the first option to choose from and they said it was longer.

You start the demo as the character Arisen. The game revolved around him in a dark castle that is pretty beat up. You have a computer controlled companion and as you make your way down the Castle’s path to find the dragon you encounter some goblins, but they are taken out with ease with a few hits from your sword. You eventually get to a stone that when examined, summons you 2 more characters that you could give different commands to either attack or help(heal) by using the D-Pad. You then come to a more open area where you encounter many goblins and flying harpies. After you kill some, a gate is opened. Once you are inside you realize that the dragon is right through the next door.

As soon as you enter, a Chimera challenges you. It is a creature that has 3 heads! You may recall fighting creatures by this name in other Rpg games. This fight took me a while as I didn’t realize you could jump on the creatures back and attack it with your sword while on top of it until several minutes in after the guy working there told me. I actually died the first time I tried this demo vs. this boss.

The second time I had my extra 2 character I got healing me very often so I stayed alive with ease. I probably could of killed him quite a bit faster if I had everyone attacking some of the time but I didn’t want to die again. Heck I really wanted to get the free shirt and poster for beating the demo! After a while I finally took down one the Chimera’s heads. Then it got easier from there as it was doing less damage to my party.

Before I played this game at Comic Con I had only heard of it as being a good Ps3 Rpg that was coming out soon. I hadn’t heard anything other than that. This game seemed interesting enough to me that I’ll consider getting it when it comes out. It seemed to be a dark fantasy game, somewhat like Demon Souls but I didn’t like the battle system as much and I am much more excited for the Demon Souls sequel, Dark Souls, which is coming out in a few months. I’m really excited that the Collector’s edition of it comes with a mini Dark Souls Walkthrough, which I am very happy about because Demon’s Souls was so hard! Happy gaming!
