Wow Economy Guide - Gold, Banks, & Auction Houses

World of Warcraft Gold

World of Warcraft has a thriving economy and the central currency of that economy is gold! Although you'll be gathering bronze and silver in the early stages of the game, as you progress gold will become the main focus of your riches and wealth.

Gold is an extremely important part of WoW and you'll need to amass and spend lots of gold to fund your journey through Azeroth. As with the real world, everything comes at a price in WoW, unless of course you're acquiring items from questing and grinding.

As you progress through the game you'll start to acquire gold through buying/ selling goods in the auction houses which will become your main focus for amassing gold at later levels.

World of Warcraft Banks

Banks aren't directly related to the WoW economy as you'll mainly be storing surplus items there, although this is just another way of putting aside some savings in a sense! The banks in WoW can be located throughout Azeroth in all the cities and a few of the large towns. The nice thing about the banks in WoW is you're not restricted to just one back to withdraw your goods! All banks are linked across WoW, so you can pull up on your mount at any bank and withdraw items you stored previously in another bank.

World of Warcraft Auction Houses

The auction houses really are the central core of the WoW economy and although they can be a little daunting at first it doesn't take long to get to grips with the auction house and hopefully start making some World of Warcraft gold.

Auction houses are also located everywhere throughout Azeroth and can be found in every major city and a few select large towns, the auction houses can usually be found within close proximity to the banks!

If you're new to the auction houses then it may seem a little over-whelming the first time around, having to work out what is selling and what sells and at the right prices will take a little practice, but as with anything practice makes perfect.

Once you're familiar with the auction houses, you'll soon be exploiting the numerous opportunities to make gold in WoW routinely. Many of the more advanced WoW players have built up entire income streams from auction houses alone and routinely trade in the auctions.

Once you're comfortable operating the auction houses and start to develop a system you're going to want to automate the process. There's a free add-on I recommend called Auctioneer, it's recognized by Blizzard as a an accepted add-on and really does help automate the Auction House aspect of the game.
