Destiny: The Taken King Warlock Subclass Quest - A Storm in the Shadow

This article will show you how to unlock and complete A Storm in the Shadow, the Warlock subclass quest that will unlock the Stormcaller subclass in Destiny: The Taken King. To gain access to this quest you must first complete the main story mission called, The Coming War. After your return to the Tower, the quest will be available for pickup.

You can start this quest by visiting Ikora Rey in the Hall of Guardians.

Once you arrive at the Tower, visit with Ikora Rey and you can pick up a quest called The Stormcaller’s Path. Accept it, and then make your way to Orbit. You’ll be heading to Mars, looking for a level 25 quest called A Spark in Shadow. This will spawn you into the Buried City. Use your Ghost to navigate, fighting your way forward and through the various enemies that stand in your way.

Push forward until you reach a zone called the Freehold Station. This will be an area that is quite dark, but you should recognize it from the main story that you completed when you first started playing Destiny. Keep smashing your way through the enemies, traveling in the only direction that you can possibly go. This will eventually bring you to Tharsis Junction.

Just before you reach Tharsis Junction you’ll get a new objective that tells you to destroy Conductive Disciples, and you need to slay three in order to finish. They are just yellow bar Hobgoblins, which shouldn’t be too tough. If you have any Year 1 exotics fully upgraded, that should be more than enough to bust through this section. If you have any higher rated Year 2 weapons, those will work even better.

When you finally reach Tharsis Junction you will have a time gate that should be your first priority. This will limit the amount of Vex enemies that you have to deal with while you fight Vekron, the Conductive Mind.

Speaking of which, this quest’s final boss (Vekron) should appear shortly after you destroy the gate, and it’s really just a yellow bar Hydra that you need to put down. We managed to do this with about five or six rockets from some random rocket launcher that did about 170 damage, maybe even a bit less. You can use whatever you want, as the critical hit point should be the eye behind its shield. The only tricky thing you have to watch out for is that the Conductive Mind likes to teleport, so don’t be surprised if it’s sitting on top of you while you’re attempting to take cover.

When the Conductive Mind falls, you’ll be whisked off to a PvP map on Mars, and that’s where you get to start playing with the Stormcaller super ability. Before you can do that, however, you must first jump through a few hoops, and shoot a few enemies.

As you work your way from one side of the map to the other, you’ll eventually see an objective that tells you to begin the first meditation. This is done underground, where it looks like there was an explosion. Just look for a great deal of energy shooting into the sky, as well as that handy objective marker that tells you that you’re in the right place.

This is the quest that you need to load up when you visit Mars from Orbit.

Fend off the enemies while you meditate, and then move on to the second and third meditations. When you’re done you’ll have to go back to the start of the map, at which point you’ll unlock the Stormcaller super ability.

The rest of the quest is just fun. Your super ability will charge up very quickly, and all you have to do is use it until nothing is left alive. Seriously, just pop down your L1/R1 or Left Bumper and Right Bumper, and then use your R2 or Right Trigger to shoot. Move around and cook anyone that stands in your way, using your super ability again and again. It will recharge in only seconds, so there’s no need to save it. Just have fun with it and get the hang of things.

When this is done you’ll need to return to Orbit, and then speak with Ikora Rey at the Tower for your reward. This is going to be the Stormcaller’s Bond, which is a pretty high level piece of gear for someone who just started with the DLC. Getting this will also complete the quest.

If you’re looking to get the other two subclass quests done, be sure to check out our Hunter walkthrough for The Nightstalker’s Trail, or the Titan walkthrough for A March of Fire. Both of those will unlock the super abilities for their respective classes.
