When the first story mission for The Taken King is out of the way, head to the Hall of Guardians and speak with Cade-6. He’ll give you a quest called the Nightstalker’s Trail, which upon completion will unlock the Nightstalker subclass for your Hunter. Accept the quest, and then make your way to Orbit to begin.
You’ll be heading to Venus, and you should have a mission there that you have yet to complete. Choose this, and then enjoy the opening cinematic. You’ll soon spawn in at Campus 9, and if you move forward you’ll soon find yourself at the Endless Steps. There will be some Vex enemies to slay along the way, but for the most part it’s pretty standard Destiny stuff.
Climb the Endless Steps, killing more Vex as you go. When you reach the top you’ll get the Respawning Restricted message, and soon after you’ll have to turn around and do some more fighting. It won’t take you but a few moments, and any fully upgraded Year 1 exotic weapon should be plenty powerful to get the job done.
When the killing is complete, make your way back up the Endless Steps to the old gate. You’ll find a Ghost on the ground, and if you deploy your own it will bring about the end of the first half of the quest. You’re now off to do some additional killing and play with your new super ability.
From here you’ll be taken directly to another part of Venus, and if you’ve played much PvP you will immediately recognize the environment. Fight your way forward, killing every enemy that you come across until you locate Tevis. A short cinematic will play, and then you get to have some fun with the Nightstalker subclass.
The Nightstalker super ability works as any other, with players having to press L1/R1 or Left Bumper and Right Bumper to activate it. There is no time for a wind up, as your Hunter will immediately begin to fire an arrow at whatever your reticle is aiming at. Even if you miss, the Void arrow will tether your foes together as long as your shot landed close. This is especially useful for tying down pesky Wizards that fancy flying all over the place and making your life difficult.
Head back the way you came and to the middle of the environment. If you recall the PvP map, this would be the B flag. Once here you will have loads of foes to test your new super ability on, and it will recharge in about five seconds, so don’t be stingy. This is just straight up target practice for you.
When you have finally taken care of all the enemies in the area the quest will end and you’ll be returned to Orbit. You should definitely make your way to the Tower and speak to Cade-6 one more time, as he’ll give you the Nightstalker’s Cloak for your troubles.
