Star Wars Battlefront: How to Play Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker

This guide will show you how to play as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in Star Wars Battlefront. We’ll also explain the special attacks for each character, like Vader’s Force Choke and Luke’s Force Push. Attacks like this work on a cooldown, and each specific one has a designed purpose during battle. We’ll break it all down for you, giving you the best opportunity possible to dominate as your favorite hero.

It’s also worth noting that not every player can use these two heroes in each game. There is a little bit of luck involved. For example, Luke Skywalker is only playable if you are the Rebel Alliance, and Darth Vader if you are the Imperials.

How to Play as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader

In order to play as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, players will have to look for Power-Ups. These are found around the maps in the form of see through tokens. They don’t just exist for Vader and Skywalker, so you will see other Power-Ups throughout the game, but in this case you’re looking for the Hero Pickup. Once you have that you can begin playing as you favorite (or least favorite) hero, and attempt to lead your team to victory.

It should also be noted that when you do get the Hero Pickup, you only have a limited time to activate it, otherwise you will lose it. They will also spawn randomly. These two features are to ensure that players are not camping the tokens trying to play as the Hero, and don’t hoard it from other players for the duration of the match when the pick it up. Finally, during the beta you may find that the Hero Pickups for Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are only found on Hoth, while playing the Walker Assault game mode. This may change for the final release of the game.

How to Use Luke Skywalker

Effective use of Luke Skywalker is all about speed a movement. This character has very high agility, allowing him to move around the field of battle faster than his opponents can react. Ensure that you are sprinting and jumping to avoid the attacks of incoming enemies, while simultaneously closing the distance between you and them. Once you’re within striking distance, Luke Skywalker has three abilities that players can depend on.

  • Force Push
  • Heavy Attack
  • Saber Rush

The Force Push will allow you to attack an enemy from close range, but still far enough away that you can’t really land a strike with your Lightsaber. The Heavy Attack is a sweeping assault, intended to help you clear more than one foe at the same time. The Saber Rush is your long-ranged attack, intended to close the distance between you and a single enemy very quickly.

How to Use Darth Vader

Although Vader is quite agile, it’s a different feel of movement than Luke Skywalker. You’ll still want to use your agility to get close to your opponents, but jumping plays a much bigger role. Try to switch up your approach when closing in on your enemies. If you walk straight into their fire, your time as Vader is sure to be short lived. Once you do get close, however, Vader’s abilities can be overpowering to his foes.

  • Force Choke
  • Heavy Attack
  • Saber Throw

The Force Choke is something everyone should be familiar with, as it allows Vader to pick up and choke his enemies without ever touching them. This, in fact, can be applied to multiple enemies at the same time. The Heavy Attack is similar to what Luke has, and if the two heroes use them against each other at the same time they’ll lock Lightsabers in an epic battle for superiority. Finally, While Luke can use his Saber Rush, Vader can use his Saber Throw, attacking enemies at distance when he’s not able to get close enough for another strike.

The three special attacks that your hero has can be found in the bottom right corner of your screen. This is also where you can see the cooldown for each, allowing you to use them multiple times in the same life as either Vader or Luke.

When Star Wars Battlefront finally releases on November, 17, 2015, there are sure to be more details about the various heroes and the modes in which they can be played. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as we know more, but for now you should have plenty on your plate with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.
