Chapter 2 - Sonya Blade

We cut to a scene of Sonya wandering the depths of the island. She is softly calling out to Jax. Not too far off she find shim chained to a wall. He tells her to run. Just after this, Shang Tsung appears and personally welcomes her to the Tournament. She explains that neither her nor Jax will be participating. Shang Tsung explains that they are both part of the Tournament. He then proclaims that she will fight the ninja Sub-Zero.

Sub-Zero is perhaps one of the most well known fighters in Mortal Kombat. He is infamous for his freezing, sliding and slippery attacks. Watch out for his sliding attack, you can just jump over it. His Ice Clone is only dangerous if you touch it, then it freezes you. He can also teleport short distances using Ice as well, a new ability.

After the battle, Raiden appears and has a quick vision, showing Liu Kang delivering a forceful blow to Shang Tsung. Sonya is still angry at Shang Tsung and tries to call him out. Shang Tsung asks if that was a challenge. Before she can respond, Raiden interrupts and tells her that she is not the one to fight Shang Tsung. She takes offense to this and challenges Raiden. Raiden has a quick teleport move and a number of those little tricks that just make him generally a little annoying to deal with.

After the battle, he tells her to shield her eyes and he helps her break out Jax. Raiden and Shang Tsung talk briefly about what just transpired and their respective roles in it. Shang Tsung states they will not get far and walk away.

The scene cuts to Sonya and Jax, with Sonya helping Jax outside. She orders him to hang on and Jax has a quick laugh as he asks if she is the commanding officer now. Kitana and Jade appear and tell them that by Shang Tsung's orders, no one can leave the island. Time for the first Double Battle.

Kitana and Jade make a fearsome duo. Kitana sends her fans out and can caught an airborne opponent with some of her moves and hold them there too. She has a lot of moves that can take advantage of these stalls in combat. Jade is a bit faster than Kitana but more inclined toward close range brawling. Her staff is something to watch out for as are her shruikens. If one is low on health while the other is still strong, they likely switch. Take advantage of this to attempt to land an X-Ray attack on the other to take a nice chunk of life off them.Repeat this in the second round to progress in the story.

Sonya explains that she trusted Kano who gave them the run around and killed a member of the squad. Jax says that her obession with Kano is going to get her killed. Just then their rescue helicopter appears. Both of them are relieved to see it. Just as the helicopter starts to land, it is blown up. Shang Tsung appears and tells Sonya that she has a challenger, Kano. He taunts her that pretty boy is not there to save her this round.

Kano will not have changed much since you fought him as Johnny Cage. He will be a bit more aggressive this time around, likely to employ his X-Ray attack on you with many of his other dirty tricks. Keep on the offensive and try to save your X-Ray to reap the power boost it offers against him. He does use his ranged attacks of his kannon ball and throwing knives given the chance, though you can jump over either or duck under the knives. Try to close the distance quickly if he starts being annoying with Sonya's Down, Back + Back Kick to close the distance and possibly hit him as you land.

A fireball launches from Shang Tsung. He tells her that Kano is not her prisoner. When she tries to get help from Jax, Shang Tsung just laughs. The others appear as Shang Tsung leaves, laughing. Raiden approaches Jax as Johnny gives his usual greeting to Sonya. She tries to protect Jax but Johnny holds her back, explaining that Raiden is cool. Raiden bathes Jax in gentle electricity, healing him. Johnny explains that Raiden is a god. Once he has healed Jax he begins to explain the visions that he has been having. He tells them that they are all tied together to the fate of the tournament, that in the future Shang Tsung becomes immortal and kills them all. Raiden also explains that he cannot participate in the Tournament unless he is directly challenged by someone. He tells them that they must alter the events of the tournament and his visions, his future's memories are the key to understanding that road. He finally warns that altering the time line can have serious consequences but the effects will be unknown.
