Chapter 3 - Scorpion
The scene changes to the next day. Shang Tsung calls forth the next combatant, a specter from the infernal realm, Scorpion. Just after he calls out Sub-Zero, Raiden has a vision of Kung Lao battling the specter. As Scorpion waits for Sub-Zero, Raiden walks up to a guard who we find out is Kung Lao in disguise. He explains this man that Liu Kang was chosen to represent the Shoalin in this tournament and that he should not have come. Kung Lao says that they will see.
He throws off his disguise, telling Scorpion that he will be his opponent. Scorpion tells Kung Lao that he will regret that choice. Time for you to beat him up. Kung Lao has only a few limited ranged attacks but a number of attacks can also close the distance. Keep on your toes. If Kung Lao puts his hands together, move away from him. He is either about to use his teleport throw or his spinning attack. Try to use a ranged attack against him in these times like that, like forward, forward + Front Punch or simply wait out the attack..
Scorpion demands Sub-Zero of Shang Tsung but Raiden has a vision of Scorpion holding Sub-Zero's Head. He then sees another Sub Zero standing there. Just after that, they take Kung Lao away. Shang Tsung tells Scorpion he is in no position to make demands and calls out Nightwolf to be his next opponent. Nightwolf tells Scorpion that he is not the only one whose people have been victimized. Scorpion is surprised to find a man without retribution in his heart for such a trespass and tells him that he is doing his people a dishonor. Nightwolf calmly states that they will see.
Against Nightwolf, simply keep the pressure on him. This is a better chance to experiment and get a feel for Scorpion's fighting style. Nightwolf is mostly melee with some ranged options so keep up your guard against his arrows and tomahawks.
Scorpion is called for restrain. Shang Tsung tells him that he will fight Sub-Zero soon enough. The crowd begins to break up. Raiden comes forward and attempts to calm Scorpion. He argues that he must take vengeance against that man for destroying his clan. Raiden explains to Scorpion that he must spare Sub-Zero's life or else it will lead to something much worse. Raiden makes a bargain with him to spare Sub-Zero in exchange for him petitioning the Elder Gods to return of the Shirai Ryu to the mortal realm.
The scene changes to night time with two Lin Kuei talking about something. One is arguing in favor of their master's plan, while the other argues against, saying it will cost them their free will. Scorpion approaches them and they taunt him for the fall of his clan and the rise of theirs as the superior one. The one in yellow, Cyrax, shoves Scorpion, and Shang Tsung appears, calling it out as a challenge against Scorpion. Once again it is two on one, not in your favor.
Cyrax is more ranged than you have dealt with before. He will throw energy nets and bombs at you, so keep ready to block on very short notice. He can also teleport very quickly, making him to hit on the occasion. Sektor is a bit different from Cyrax. He attacks largely with small missiles he can launch in a number of directions. He also has a teleport attack, so if you see a small portal open under him, block. Against this duo, try to build up your gauge as fast as possible with vicious attacks, recoveries and reversals. Hold onto the charge until one is below half life than ke attempt to hit them with an X-Ray attack. This will likely take them out, leaving only their compatriot to deal with.
Sub-Zero finally makes his appearance. He calls out Scorpion on his comment of he will get his revenge but he will not kill Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero taunts Scorpion, saying that his clan was meaningless and there was little to do but wipe them out anyways.. Scorpion teleports both of them into the Nether realm. He, he explains to Sub-Zero, he was reborn. He also tells him that this is where he will make Sub-Zero pay for what he did to his clan.
Much like the first time you took him on, remember he has a number of ranged options. Sub-Zero is notably harder this time around so keep on your guard and give it your all.
He feels a measure of vengeance against him. Quan Chi appears just after the fight and tells him to kill Sub-Zero. He shows Scorpion the battle that killed his clan to provoke him. As this ruse of Quan Chi's continues Sub-Zero recovers and sees the havoc of the massarce and his role in it. He calls him on the death of his wife and child and personal role Sub-Zero took in killing them specifically. He rises tries to tell Scorpion that it was not him who killed them, that it was not him. Scorpion reacts in anger, pulling off his mask, revealing his skeletal face and the flames that wreath it.
He reappears in the room in the mortal realm with a human skull and spine. He drops them and vanishes into the Nether Realm in a burst of flame. Raiden is sadden for the loss that has happened and his failure to alter the course of events. He explains the Sub-Zero stood against the armies of Shinnok in the Nether Realm. Cyrax calls out for vengeance against Scorpion for this trespass ...
