Final Fantasy XIII-2 End-Game Walkthrough Part 8: The Archlyte Steppe Part 3

This walkthrough will cover the Ochu Fragment, a Fragment which you must defeat the boss Ochu to obtain. You will have to defeat all three of the Gigantuars on the map before you can take on this mission. After doing so, proceed to the Nomad Camp area and speak with Hunter, the Chocobo wrangler near the pen. Exit to the Historia Crux and return to the area, as the game may not register everything that you have done until you do so. After that, find the NPC named Tipur in the hut in the Nomad Camp area to learn of a contract of sorts that has been taken out on the Ochu.

Accept the challenge and use the weather machine to switch the weather to rainy before continuing. Ochu resides in the Clearwater Marshes area, so head over there to encounter the beast.

Boss Battle: Ochu

Depending on your current level, this battle can either be long and grueling or a piece of cake. If you find yourself at or near the level caps of 99 for most of your Paradigms, feel free to set your Paradigm to Relentless Assault and cruise through this encounter. Otherwise, you will have to learn to recognize Ochu’s attack patterns. He will begin the battle by summoning four Microchu allies. When you begin attacking them, they will cast Plead, which makes Ochu cast Pollen in response. Pollen may inflict Debrave and Defaith on your party, and it will also heal the Microchu.

Ochu will then begin attacking with physical attacks for several turns before using Screech, a powerful attack that can remove buffs from your party members. Following this, Ochu will summon more Microchus, the Microchus will use Plead when attacked, and Ochu will revert to using physical attacks before switching to Screech.

You can counter Ochu easily if you just know which Paradigms to switch to during each phase of the encounter. Use the Superiority Paradigm (two Synergists and one Saboteur) early on in the battle to cast Protectga, Vigilaga, and Veilga. Cast Bravery and Enfire on your party members and switch to the Strike Team Paradigm to keep your party buffed as they attack. Target the Microchus, as they can become annoying as the battle winds down. Once they’re dead, use the Smart Bomb Paradigm or the Relentless Assault Paradigm, or alternate between both, to bring Ochu’s health down.

When Ochu casts Screech, use Discretion to quickly heal back up or Tortoise to negate some of the damage. Heal up and resume the assault, beginning with Superiority if your debuffs have since been negated. Ochu should fall fairly quickly after this.

For defeating Ochu, you will receive the Ochu Fragment and 30,000 experience points.
