Pokemon Conquest- Conquest One: Burning and Learning (6/9)

This makes it February, and Hideyoshi’s army strength is up to 145- enough to be threatening, but far from unbeatable by your 142 (especially with Celebrate on your side).  Still, you can’t head into Ignis yet.  Instead, you should check Aurora first- a Ravine appears when you do, holding different pokemon from the Farm.  Oichi notices that this new area is present, gasps, and then tells you it looks like a good place to train (not that it’s notably better than the Farm, but so it goes).

The Ravine map is one of most commonly found in the game for a good while.  This area presents some much more interesting terrain than the Farm, and the most major feature is, of course, the waterfall and river.  You will find that unless a pokemon flies, levitates, or is a Water type, it can’t actually stand in water squares- making things a little difficult in some cases if you don’t go the long way around the bridge, something that’ll cut into your time for actuallyfighting.  Additionally there is no way up the cliff on the left side of the waterfall without flying or special jump effects- Levitate won’t cut it there.  Furthermore, the terrain here lets you learn how to use another mechanic built into the game- the advantage of higher ground, and the difficulty of attacking up or down instead of across a level field.

Before you get a chance to do anything, Oichi notes a new pokemon and exclaims over it.  She points out that Wooper- the new arrival to Aurora- has the ranged Water Gun attack, and goes on to highlight the fact that every pokemon has only one move it can use in battle.

The first time your Eevee takes damage, Oichi mentions her Warrior Skill, Sweet Song.  This skill, like other Warrior Skills, can be used at the start of a Warrior’s turn before the Pokemon moves, just like with an item.  Since each Warrior Skill can only be used once per battle and can be used every battle, you’ll want to keep track of what you’ve got and make sure you’re actually using them.

This battle is overall pretty simple and should be fairly easy for you- just have each of the Pokemon on your team pursue the wild Pokemon nearest them and attack all-out- they simply aren’t a match in power for your Pokemon.  Do watch out for the Wooper making its way into water- if you need to, you can park one of your pokemon one step away from the shoreline to lure it into attack range.  Once the fight is over, both your Warriors have acted, so it’s time to move on to the next month.
