Starcraft 2 Bunker Tactics And Options
Many gamers eagerly anti[censored] ted the release of Starcraft 2. When this game finally hit the shelves it was to the delight of many fans that they would still see the Zerg, Protoss and Terrans battling it out against each other. There are also still the mining of minerals with Drones, Probes and SCVs. The success of your battles as Terran sometimes may involve your ability to use bunkers effectively to cover your bases.
The bunker only costs one hundred minerals and takes forty seconds to build. It has a relatively small building footprint and as such it can be built in many places on the map. The bunker comes with a cargo space of four, which allows it to house four marines or two marauders. Units within the bunker gain a range increase of one.
There are various options when considering bunker strategies. There are currently two upgrades that can enhance the effectiveness of bunkers which are researched from the Engineering Bay. The Neosteel Frame upgrade provides two additional slots, or one in the event you plant in a Marauder. The Building Armor upgrade gives you a boost of two armor to all Terran buildings. This basically means that zerglings that have been unupgraded can only hit you for minus two damage and zealots at minus four due to their two attacks.
Sometimes the effectiveness of your bunker comes down to the map you are playing. Sometimes the best use of a bunker is to contain, or seal off, your opponent. This will then prevent them from expanding or moving forward. This is especially important on level maps such as Steppes of War.
You can also strategically place bunkers in and around your opponents ramps. Be sure when doing this that you remain far enough away from the range of their long-ranged units. Keep available at least two or three SCVs in the event you have to have repairs. Consider rallying all of your factories and barracks in order to provide reinforcement. This will help to fortify your defensive lines.
It is always wise to experiment with the use of bunkers. There are always new and different tactics that can be accomplished through the use of terrain. Bunkers also have the salvage ability which destroys the bunker and returns 75% of its cost. This ability cannot be canceled however once it is activated.
Given the fact that bunkers can be salvaged for 75% of their cost they can be placed somewhat liberally to house infantry units defending a base or on the front lines. One of the po[censored] r strategies to use with bunkers is going for the bunker rush, which means rushing your opponent in order to place one or more bunkers near their base. You should also remember that units within the bunker can use stimpack without needing to exit.
