Pokemon Conquest, Conquest Six: Test Your Might (1/4)

With Chrysalia overcome, you can move on to a new month- and a new event.  This month begins with the appearance of a ‘Messenger’, who arrives to let you know that an ‘elderly gentleman’ is looking to talk to you.  This man, identified as ‘Professor’, greets you and says that he’s been researching Pokemon in Ransei for some time.  He says he’s considering retiring and intends to share his knowledge with you first.  He tells you to ask him anything you like- but for the moment, all he can provide is information on the meanings of Pokemon stats and the ranks that moves can have.  Not the most difficult information to figure out for yourself, but it can provide a useful refresher to go over his info on move ranks.

Either way, it’s time to head on to Pugilis.  This place has a group of five warriors, but it also packs the first evolved Pokemon you’re going to have to deal with- a very dangerous Girdurr.  With four Fighting Pokemon and one Grass Pokemon in it, this is an especially nice place to use Bug-type pokemon, though a Fire pokemon can do in a pinch for handling the Pansage.  If you’ve got a Ruffelet that can help as well, as can a Staravia, if you happen to have both gained and evolved a Starly.  Starly, sadly, lacks a Flying attack, and as both it and Ruffelet are Flying/Normal, neither of them actually resists the Fighting attacks that most of the enemy Warriors here have access to.

Certain pokemon are just bad ideas here as well- Onix is an obvious no-go, but less immediately clear is that if you are using a Pichu at all, the baby Pokemon can’t even come close to handling the massive offensive power of the opposing Warriors here, and should be kept well clear.  Be cautious with your Bug Pokemon choices also- while Sewaddle has the resistance to survive here, Bug attacks don’t do much to Fighting types, so you’re safer on that count with the Poison Sting attack and increased resistance of Venipede.

If you haven’t already, this would also be a good point for you to pick up a secondary Pokemon both for yourself and Oichi, as Normal-types really can’t handle Fighting attacks at all.  It’s more important for you to have an alternative option- Jigglypuff’s Lullaby and Oichi’s Healing Song make sure that they aren’t much of a liability even in a disadvantage fight like this- but it’s generally a good idea to have a couple options for each warrior before too long anyways.
