VideoGamer is changing. No, it's not a new version of the website (although that will be coming soon), but instead an expansion of what we cover and how we cover it. Listen, don't get all dramatic and start throwing your amiibo out the pram. It will be okay. Let me explain.
We've noticed that, and we're not entirely sure why, you like to read/listen to/watch us talking about all manner of things – things not limited to video games. We do this to some extent already, with the podcast often covering what we've been into on TV, films we've seen recently, the latest WWE shenanigans and more. So, from today you'll be getting that on VideoGamer.com, on our YouTube channel VideoGamerTV and on the podcast.
Obviously our primary focus and main passion will be video games, but we all have other interests too. While I really don't care, at all, about what science fiction nonsense Jim has been getting "fired inta" or however he'd put it, some of you might. And it might mean he'd talk less about it to me! Burns loves himself a movie reference, and is excited to be able to tell you exactly what he thinks about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And Miller can finally put his many WWE wonderings into words and videos. Alice is new around these parts, but she tells me she's into comics, so she might want to pretend they're as good as books for a while and tell you about them. The young people, so she says, are also into tabletop games, so we might cover those too.
James, Dave and I are pretty dull to be honest, but the beauty of the new VideoGamer is that we're free to write about, talk about and make videos about whatever interests us. Dave's interests will obviously need to be vetted first, but something might get through without setting off alarms. Think of it like this. VideoGamer used to be about video games but now it's for people who play video games. Unless you're a Daily Mail stereotype you probably like things aside from gaming. Now you can get all that from a bunch of people who are like you, only funnier, beardier, and hencher.
You have probably also noticed that our content on VideoGamerTV isn't exactly consistent with the tone of our articles on VideoGamer.com. We're doing something about this too. We think news and reviews are important, and those will continue (although you'll see news broaden to cover wider interests), but covering entertainment should be entertaining, and fun. We like to have a laugh with our videos and thankfully you guys get what we do. We're bringing that style of coverage to VideoGamer.com. We're not going to slap a "Funny" label on these articles or anything, as hopefully you're all smart enough to realise when something is a joke. If you're not, I apologise but that's kind of funny in itself.
I want you to enjoy reading VideoGamer.com as much as you enjoy watching our videos on VideoGamerTV. A long time ago I imagined VideoGamer as the UK alternative to the big US gaming websites. We ended up with something very different; something I believe can stand proudly as its own thing. Fingers crossed you'll have a good time as we continue to inject fun into games media and everything that surrounds it.
To kick things off, here's Burns talking about how people will ruin Star Wars: The Force Awakens for you. And here's Alice with a little guide on what comics to read if you're enjoying the Jessica Jones show on Netflix.
