Prayer can be one of the most expensive skills to train in RuneScape, a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, as there aren't really any ways of earning money from training Prayer. Training Prayer therefore can only be done by spending large amounts of money, or through other activities and skills.
There are a number of ways in which the cost of training can be reduced, although in many cases these can increase the time spent training. This is by no means an exhaustive list.
The methods here use other skills, activities and quests to help to reduce the cost. The fastest way is by spending a lot of coins to train Prayer, but this has the disadvantages that time needs to be spent building up a cash pile of possibly hundreds of millions of coins to do so, and this may be at the expense of training other skills.
This series of articles on Prayer training looks at how using other skills and activities can help to reduce the cost of said training.
This article looks at how to reduce the cost of training Prayer using Quests and Quest Rewards.
Other articles will look at how the cost can be reduced by:
Using the Task System, the Ectofuntus, Random Events and Bonus XP Weekends and Bones and Demonic Ashes
Using Construction, Crafting and Dungeoneering
Using Minigames
Using Distractions & Diversions, Specific Monsters and Useful Items
Various quests give either experience rewards or lamps that can be used to train Prayer. Either the experience will be assigned specifically to Prayer, or the reward will be one where the player can choose which skill to assign it to, with Prayer being an option. Doing quests can be a cheap way of training, as often the quest will be being done anyway. Other Prayer training options may also become available after completing certain quests.

Some quests provide rewards, experience lamps or other items that can be used to train Prayer if desired. Most experience lamps cannot be banked.
For those rewards that can be used on multiple skills, Prayer is one of the best to use them with, given the cost and time required to train it otherwise. The two others that are good to use these rewards on are Construction and Summoning.
Swept Away - 10 Bowls of goulash that give experience of ten times the current skill level.
