It's not enough to pick the best cards in an Arena Draft, your deck has to be methodical! In Arena even more so than in the regular games, the early game is very important and you will need a lot of creatures for the first three turns. However, you will still need something ready for if the game lasts a long time, and some spells to control your opponent.
So it's a subtle alchemy you must follow if you hope to reach the 12 wins and the rewards that come with them! You'll need to make your choices based on the mana cost of the cards offered to give yourself a nice mana curve designed for the Arena.
Here's the ideas mana curve to follow when building your Arena deck:
• 0/1 mana: 1 to 4.
• 2/3 mana: 7 to 10.
• 4 mana: 4 to 6.
• 5 mana: 3 to 4.
• 6 mana and more: 2 to 4.
• The rest of the deck with spells.
It's obviously an outline to be followed and it will sometimes be difficult for you to keep to this curve. However you should still try to stick to this figures as much as possible to have a balanced and effective deck. You'll notice that the number of creatures in the first turns is very important and that the late game won't prove essentially important.
If you manage to get a more or less consistent mana curve, you can very quickly put pressure on your opponent. The start of the game will be the time to play a lot of little creatures and take the lead on the table. Managing to take control of the board and keeping it will often be what allows you to win the game.
