Weak Spot Guide: FV215b (1.8.3) - WoT Guru

The tier 10 British tank destroyer packs a mean punch with it’s 183mm death cannon but how does the armor match up to protect this lethal weapon?  Much like the tier 10 heavy tank FV215b the TD version has the majority of it’s armor in the front, however unlike the heavy tank the frontal armor contains a lot more weak spots that take damage very easily.

The index at the bottom of each picture describes a few abbreviations used and also the format in which the armor details are described in. Effective Armor (EA) refers to the overall effectiveness of the armor without normalization.   The armor values are presented in three different scenarios for the angled view of the tank.15° frontal(75° side),  25° frontal(65° side), 35° frontal(55° side), and 45° frontal(45° side).

Please excuse the random colored boxes beneath some text on this weak spot guide. When I was updating it to reflect recent changes I could not find my original file I needed to edit and instead had to resort to editing a jpeg.

Frontal View

Frontally the FV215b (183) packs a lot of armor in around the mantlet and the beak of the frontal hull.  However as you move away from these locations the armor thins out and becomes very easy to damage.  The upper glacis is vulnerable to all tier 10 and most tier 9 tanks and you can pretty much consider the lower glacis not covered by armor at all. Simply avoid the beak area which is slightly more armored on the frontal hull and you will be alright. The turret on the other hand has armor capable of protecting the FV215b from tier 10 guns if the FV215b (183) is pointing at its enemy.  Both frontal turret armor sections are glaring weak spots along with the various small spots on top of the turret.

Side View

Much like it’s heavy counterpart the FV215b (183) has very vulnerable side armor.  The only “strong” spots are located towards the front of the turret near the gun and some spots on the turret roof area. Be careful shooting the spaced armor section on top of the turret since you will only do HP damage by hitting it in the central area of it.  Aside from shooting these locations or shooting to low in the track areas any tank facing this tank under normal matchmaking will chew it apart from the side.

Rear View

Much like the side armor the rear armor is essentially not protected at all. Avoid shooting the sloped side sections of the turret and also the turret ring and you’ll penetrate everytime.

Angled View

I did not include a detailed angled view with the armor values since it is straightforward on how to deal with this tank if it angles.  At slight angles (under 30°) simply shoot the frontal weak spots(especially the lower glacis).  If the FV215b (183) starts to angle much more than 30° you can simply continue shooting the lower glacis since it is hilariously weak or swap over to the frontal track wheel/side armor.
