Churchill I - British Tier V Heavy Tank
The Churchill I is the first heavy tank of the British branch. A real juggernaut, you are as indiscreet as you are strong. Unwieldy, slow, you will have to play as a tank and use the firing rate of your cannon to act as a support to your team. You are equally at home on the front line (top tier) as in defense. For a bit of history, the Churchill I was produced in 1941, and was initially devoid of caterpillars. 300 vehicles were produced throughout history. At your Tier, you'll be competing with the T1 Heavies and the mythical KV1.
The first games are often painful with such a vehicle. Your base cannon is very weak, you are slow, difficult to manoeuver, and easy to target. Yet with a little perseverance and optimisation, you will quickly enjoy taking control of your favorite British tank. Your max speed is excessively low, so it will be necessary to play according to your teammates. You will rarely be first in line as your allies will open the way, you will have to make a skillful assessment of the battle to provide the right support. However, if you are top tier, and you have the opportunity to go in front, don't hesitate!
Remember that you are an excellent sniper and an excellent defender. Don't hesitate, with some patience, to place yourself in a bush or on an overhanging hill to pick off the enemy tanks. Your size makes you an easy target tank. Also, your front armour (177mm thick) is actually a very small part of the metal. It is an art to place yourself properly with the Churchill I. Always try to put yourself at an angle to increase the thickness of your armour: an oblique shot will always do less damage than a direct hit.
If you're not top tier, remain in the second line and hit from a distance. If your gun pierces enemy armour, your defense is too weak to withstand the most advanced tanks. So be very careful in this configuration.
Buying Order
The base gun for the Churchill is really horribly bad. The tech tree offers a slew of weapons to equip it with. However, the second turret - essential for most guns - is heavy and requires you to first invest in the Churchill III tracks. So you will have to be patient before heading to the 75 mm Gun Mk. V, the most interesting weapon in my opinion in terms of its precision/focus/firing rate/damage ratio. The radio and the engine are next. Basically, you have to buy everything!
Tracks
• Churchill III / The second turret is too heavy for the base tracks, you will have to invest in these quickly.
Turret
• Churchill III / You gain an additional 20m of view, you can equip the interesting guns in the tech tree.
Guns
• 75 mm Gun Mk. V / 75mm caliber gun with a rate of 20 shots/min. The damage is about 150 and the penetration is 91/144/38. The focus speed and accuracy of this weapon are the main advantages of this piece of equipment. The best gun for the Churchill in my opinion. Those who prefer a gun with more damage will prefer the 75 mm Vickers HV.
Radio
• WS No. 19 Mk. II / This radio was already available on the Matilda and the Valentine, so you can reuse it.
• WS No. 19 Mk. III / The Rolls Royce of the radio. You have a range of 550m, 100 more than the previous one. Although costly, it is essentiel to quickly invest in it to act as as sniper. Remember that the accuracy of your gun allows this.
Engine
• Bedford Twin-Six / 50Hp extra... It's not a lot but you are so slow that it would be good to take this.
Equipment
• Camouflage Net
• Enhanced Gun Laying Drive
• Spall Liner
