In-App Purchases (IAP)
There are several different in-app purchases you can make for Shadow Kings, which can get expensive if you aren’t paying attention and just click the option to buy now. The most common item that you can purchase for this game are diamonds, since diamonds are the main currency in the game, and the economy of your city depends on having certain resources. You can purchase 2,500 diamonds for $1.99 or 9,750 diamonds for $4.99. The prices and diamond ranges continue going up from there with 13,000 diamonds costing $4.99 and 30,000 diamonds costing $9.99. You can also purchase resources with the diamonds but that package is 32,000 diamonds plus the resources for $19.99. So as you can see, the prices of the packages vary depending on how many diamonds you plan on purchasing and whether or not you also include resources into this package.
Shadow Kings is another strategy game where resources are very important. Saving up coins and harvesting resources can take a long time. If you want to skip the wait, then players can choose to purchase diamonds using their real money.

Maximize Your Resources: One of the first things you want to do in Shadow Kings is make sure you are maximizing your resources, which is done by utilizing your allotted amount of each type of building or structure. You want to build as many of each building as you can and make sure you upgrade all of your buildings as soon as you can and as much as you can. Focus on also building a lot of houses so that you can have a lot of inhabitants, which then allows you to collect more taxes, and it will end up giving you the ability to get or farm more resources. In order to be good at Shadow Kings towards the end of the game, your beginning needs to focus on maximizing all opportunities.
Level Up As Quick As Possible: When you play Shadow Kings, you want to make sure you are leveling up as quickly as you can, because the higher level you are the more damage and abilities you have. When you get higher levels you will also be able to recruit a stronger army and have better defenses, which is vital if you want to keep your city free from attacks that wipe you out. The level you are also determines the strength of your buildings, so naturally you want to be at max level so you can max out your buildings and build the best structures possible to keep yourself from being attacked.
Don’t Start Off Attacking Players: In the beginning of Shadow Kings, you really want to keep your focus on your resources and building up your city to be as strong as possible. This means that you don’t want to start attacking players right off the bat, because you will not have the resources to defend yourself. If you are a level 1 player, you likely won’t be attacked because the opponent has nothing to gain from attacking you. So you should not sit there and worry about needing to go on an offensive or defensive strike, just relax and start building up your city. Obviously the more you level up, the more of a target you will be for attacks, but you should not even worry about this while you are at the lower levels of the game.
Goodgame Studios is known for making really good MMO games, so it’s no surprise that Shadow Kings comes out as one of the coolest MMO strategy games out there on the market. When you first start the game you will notice you have to create different buildings and military units, which all use a variety of resources, and not all of the buildings will require the same resources. The four major resources in this game is gold, wood, food and stone, and all of these resources are vital to keep your economy in your own city going smoothly. When you first start off on your buildings, you will need to use wood and stone because that is the basis for almost all structures. The food is used almost every hour for the military units, and just about everything in between uses gold including the military units and other buildings. You will need to use the resources to upgrade your buildings as well, but not all of the buildings require the same resources to upgrade, which gives the game quite a bit of variety.
When it comes to actually playing the games and getting into battles, Shadow Kings is a fairly basic setup, so there is nothing confusing or too complicated in the execution of the battles. This is both a good and a bad thing because if you want to play a casual game where things are very laid back and there isn’t a lot of strategy involved in this is the perfect game for you. However, there are some people who like the more complex and in-depth strategy games which require a lot of thought and planning, and this is not that type of game. Sometimes the time in between attacks and getting to your destination can be a while, so much so that you can literally get up and workout or do something else and you will still be traveling to where you need to go.
When you go into combat, you will also notice how simple the setup is, with you keeping the ability to choose what units you will send out into battle. You can attack an encampment or another player’s city with ease, and you can decide on whether to strike from the front or from the two flanks in the city. One really cool part about when you are battling the evil forces in this game is that you get a battle report after each battle, which shows you the progress you made, and can help you determine whether or not any items or buildings can be upgraded. The battle report is awesome because it’s a good way to get a new MMO player used to how things are setup and it helps you figure out the damage and points you will do to an opponent so you can plan your next move. If you are a new player, you will automatically get a spell that protects your city from invasion for 24-hours. You can always take down this spell yourself by disabling the feature, and you have to disable it if you are looking to go out and attack someone before the spell has been lifted. The moves in battle are also fairly general with you being able to use an axe and bow and arrow, so there is nothing too detailed or specific about weapons or armor.
You can also join other players in the game to form an alliance, which is a good way to make friends and also increase your own power within the community. You can make these alliances so that you have backup if you are being attacked, but you also have to then be available to help your ally if they come under attack. If you were a very spiteful person, you could always make these alliances and then creep in and stab that city in the back, which would be a fun way to wind up taking over more territory. Whether you choose to form the alliances with good or bad intentions is all up to you, but just remember that your ally might also have a different intention as well.
Overall Shadow Kings is one of those great MMO games that you can pick up and put down whenever you want to, since you don’t feel like you have to get that involved in the game in order to be successful. This is one of those games that has a lot of cool graphics and animations, especially with the ability to see the battles and your city in amazing 3D technology. You will find that upgrading and progressing through the game is fairly mundane and there isn’t a lot of over-the-top aspects to this game, but the side missions and quests make for an interesting narrative besides the main storyline.
Gameplay: When it comes to gameplay Shadow Kings gets a 7/10 because it’s a fairly simple game with not much in the way of depth or change. The game is really fun and you can spend a lot of time maximizing your buildings and recruiting bigger and badder armies, but overall it’s a fairly basic and simple concept. There isn’t too much change in the progression of the game and you will find yourself getting a little bored with repeating the same moves over and over, although it is more fun once you are high level and begin attacking and defending on a regular basis.
Graphics/Animation: When it comes to graphics and animation, Shadow Kings gets an 8/10 because the 3D graphics are really cool, and even the decorations are fairly detailed with a lot of personality. You will enjoy seeing the combat and battle up close as well as the details in the design of your city, and there are no glitches that interfere with any aspect of the graphics and no black or blank spots either.
Music: The sounds and music in this game are fairly consistent with other MMO strategy games, so it gets an 8/10. Sometimes the music really gets you into a fighting mood, but other times it puts you into a more relaxed mood. The sounds are not distracting and don’t take away from the gameplay itself, so it’s really a good combination that you won’t find annoying or too loud to play during the day.
Overall: When you talk about all of the aspects of this game overall, you have to give this game a 8.5/10 because it’s really fun and it’s simple enough that even a beginner will feel welcome and confident that they can be successful. You will really enjoy fighting the evil that comes out of the shadows and you will enjoy the alliances and diplomatic aspects of the game as well. There is a good combination of good and evil in this game and that allows you to feel like you have enough variety to keep yourself satisfied. The best parts of the game are the battles and going into another city to destroy them with your powerful army. It’s just a fun game that you can pick up or put down when you want to, which is a great thing if you are someone who just likes to play for a little bit before bed and don’t want to get yourself in situations that might take hours to resolve.
