What Is Way to Gold?

Way to Gold is an Android and iOS game that just launched on Jan. 24, 2015, and it’s a puzzle game that requires you lining up 4 or more gold nuggets to earn points. Throughout the game, you will have roadblocks which consist of coal chunks that will get in your way, and you have to use bombs to blow up the roadblocks so you can continue. You will collect points once you move 4 or more of the nuggets, which are also known as nuggies, and once you get enough points you will move up a level. As you progress throughout the levels, the roadblocks will become harder, which then requires you to use super bombs to get them out of your way. You might only have one roadblock in the first few levels, but then if you get closer to level 100 you might notice there are several roadblocks you will have to deal with. It will also become more difficult to line up 4 or more nuggets as the game continues, which means you will have to use strategy to figure out how to get all of the nuggets together in sequence. Between the different themes and zones and various parts on the map, this game is sure to give you some excitement and you will feel like you are playing a new game almost every level because they are all different from one another. As you can see in the picture, the object on the left is a piece of coal aka the roadblock, then you have the gold nugget on the right.

Way to Gold was just released for free on both Android and iOS, so neither system is beyond the first version of the game yet, although there has already been an update. If you are playing on Android, you will need version 4.0 or above Android Operating System and it is 42MB. The iOS version just came out Jan. 24, 2015 and is only on version 1.0.2 with a 58.2 MB download file. Way to Gold requires iOS 4.3 or later, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Since this game is so new, there are still bugs and glitches being worked out, which will go away as more patches and updates become available. It’s really amazing there is already over 200 levels to this game since it literally just came out, but that also tells you just how fun this game is that people keep wanting to play. You also have the ability to change the gameplay modes, so you might choose easy or hard and you can switch around the themes to fit your own personality and mood. What I really liked about the game was the music, it’s so fun and happy sounding, and that is something that will keep you coming back for more. You might be someone who often turns off music during puzzle games because they are annoying or monotonous, but the soundtrack to Way to Gold is just simply fun and exciting. You will play the game a couple of times and realize you are singing along to the soundtrack, which is a really different vibe compared to other puzzle games where you just want it to go away.

If you get stuck on a level you can also choose some power ups and a variety of trick shots to help you get to the next level without needing to purchase any items, which is nice to have if you are not wanting to spend money within the app itself. Way to Gold also allows you to create an account, which means that you can play on both iOS and Android or across your tablet and smart phone. This is a really cool feature because if you need to reset your device, you won’t have to worry about losing your levels, you can just simply create an account and then login to the device you want to play on and start right where you left off.

What I really liked about Way to Gold was that you never get bored because there are so many different levels you can play, and the progression of the map really keeps the game interesting. I also enjoyed the soundtrack, which you can purchase on their website, because it was upbeat and positive. It didn’t seem like you were playing for an hour because the game itself was so fun and the music really kept you motivated to continue. I also enjoyed the roadblocks because they would be in different areas of the game and you wouldn’t always be using the same bomb to get them out of the way. It did remind me of Candy Crush in a way because of the fact there is so many levels, all of them having a unique style and theme and setup. I also enjoyed the game because it’s a puzzle game where you don’t have to think that hard, but it’s not too simple that you become bored easily either. You can burn and drill the pieces of coal or do what you need to do to get them out of your way, but sometimes it’s not as easy as it looks, so it’s a good challenge type of game as well. Overall I think this game deserves an honest 8/10, as it’s still just in the beginning stages and there are a couple glitches here and there you might have to deal with. This game can easily become a 10/10 once it gets going and more patches roll out to fix some errors and the game becomes more popular with even more levels.
