Epic Skater is an Arcade-Action skateboarding game developed by Kongregate, a company known for games like AdVenture Capitalist (which is a popular hit) and Game of Thrones Ascent. The game has a rating of 4 out of 5 on Google Play and a rating of 4 and a half stars on Apple Store and has been downloaded for about 7 million times. It requires at least an Android version of 2.3.3 and for Apple devices, iOS 6.0 or later.
In Epic Skater you take the role of a teenager that is very talented with the skateboard and wants to show the world what he is capable of. Your objective is to do more and more complicated and complex skateboard tricks while you try not to crash or fall in a not-so-friendly environment. Even though there is only one location where you can play, Epic Skater guarantees a fun experience.
Epic Skater has 2 resources. The primary one, which is Gold Coins, can be obtained by leveling-up or by collecting them during your runs. The premium one is called Energy Drink and can be bought with real money or on rare occasions picked up from the game. The price for both resources varies having Energy Drinks starting from $1.99 to $9.99 depending on the amount you buy and Coins starting from $0.99 to $9.99. On a side note, the Energy Drink packs names are hilarious and you should buy them just for that – I am joking.
The game does not require a sign-up but it is strongly recommended for ensuring no data loss. For Android users it should be easy because the Epic Skater requires Google Play Services installed. The ads in the game are discrete and the only one that will probably annoy you is the one that explains you that any purchase within the game with real money will make Epic Skater ad-free.
Epic Skater is such an addictive game, but it’s hard to get items you need and progress through the game without enough coins and energy. You can get coins and energy through the app store, but this costs you real money, and that really gets expensive. If you don’t want to spend real money on Epic Skater, you can download our free hack, which gives you coins and energy in unlimited amounts free of charge.
If you look at the image below, you will see how simple the Epic Skater hack tool is to use. The options menu is where you will enter the amounts of coins and energy that you want to add to your account.
Simply download our free Epic Skater hack, which you will find right here on the website. It takes about 20 seconds to download, and it will automatically install afterward, which also takes around 20 seconds. Then, you need to select either iOS or Android depending on the device you are using. After that, just enter the amounts of coins and energy that you want to add to your Epic Skater gaming account.
Lastly, press “Start” to begin the Epic Skater hack tool, which takes no more than 30 seconds to complete. Once that has finished, you can open up the game as normal, and you will find that the energy and coins have been added to your account.
Complete all goals. Even though this may sound like common sense, people tend to forget to complete them because they are too focused on tricks and on getting a higher score.
Take advantage of the Free Spins and buy all the upgrades. There is a Free Spin once every 15 minutes and you only need 75 Coins to buy all upgrades. After a little while you will see that they will make a difference to your overall score. It is worthless to pay coins on an additional spin so have patience.
Don’t bother upgrading any skills but Ollie and Manual. After you max them you can focus on other skill and by the time you reach a maximum level for both Ollie and Manual you will know what skill to max next – it depends on your play style.
Manual is the key to success. Once you unlock the move use it every time you can. It gives you free points and always starts a combo. The Manual is also the best move because all you have to do, after a complex air combo or whatever are you doing, is to swipe your finger to left or right and hold it right there and the combo will continue with a nice Manual.
Keep in mind that in order for a combo to get scored you must finish it without a crash. Otherwise you will lose all the points of the combo.
Don’t do front flips (or back flips) if you don’t jump from a high ramp. They require a lot of time and space for a good performance. However, they are worth a lot of points so don’t be shy about doing them when the environment allows.
Despite the not so friendly last comments & ratings on Google Play for Epic Skater, I must say that I really enjoyed the game. It is fun and casual at first but it can turn easily into a hardcore ultimate survival game if you really want to score that super-fly mega-combo worth 50.000 points. The game has a nice pace and you always feel that you are doing something (even if you are not if you don’t complete the objectives).
First of all, I like the fact the game leaves you a continuously feeling of character development because of the Spinning Wheel that offers you different upgrades in exchange for a little amount of hard-earned Coins. Secondly, it is nice that the tricks power is segmented in levels and you can decide how much of a trick you want to know or what to maximize first (even though I don’t like that it costs a big amount of Coins). Finally, I think that the possibility of getting free coins by watching different ads (which is a common practice in mobile games lately) and getting the occasional free Energy Drink makes the players that don’t want to invest real money don’t feel neglected.
I also like that even though there is only one stage, the obstacles are randomly generated which gives the game a nice touch. On the other side, I don’t like that some of the outfits and boards (not to mention the upgrades I was talking about earlier) are pretty expensive and you cannot have them all. I also don’t like the moment when you level-up because the game gets flashy and it can be very distracting if you reached a pretty big distance in-game.
Overall, I think that Epic Skater has got what it takes to be a top mobile device game if the developers will still update it. I think that the game still needs some work because currently it lacks content. For example a not so comprehensive story for the Career mode or a Multiplayer mode will bring a satisfactory amount of variety for Epic Skater. Until then, I still recommend it as a fun game.
Artwork: I give Epic Skater 8 out of 10 for its artwork. The game looks childish but not in a bad way. It is colorful and it suits the game genre and story. Epic Skater is not a game from which you can expect last generation physics or eye-catching graphics because it does not focus on such things. The character is looking great, the environment looks realistic even though is created in a cartoonish way. In a game like this I think that the animations are hard to be made because all of the movement action involved in a skateboard trick but from my point of view (and I know a thing or two about skateboarding) I think that the developers did a great job.
Music & SFX: 8 out of 10 for the game. The music is perfect, matches the theme and gives you the virtual adrenaline you need for your character. The sound animations are pretty good as well. The character has 1 or 2 lines (especially when he falls) and I think that they should have worked more on this aspect. Overall, there are no major issues with Epic Skater’s sound.
Story/Originality: Epic Skater gets 8 out of 10. There are some other skating games out there but I don’t think that they are a match for Epic Skater. Even though the game may look limited (because there is only one stage available) because of its overall good development I don’t think for a second that it copied another game – it is a not so original idea (because of the game type) implemented very well. There is no story at all – you are a high school student who goes home (or at least that’s how I imagined) by taking a very long detour with his skateboard.
General Gameplay: I give the game 9 out of 10 for its gameplay. Epic Skater is easy to play and hard to master. Like every rookie skateboarder you first learn how to Ollie and as you level-up you unlock special moves. As time goes by you start doing complex combos using the environment in your advantage and your fingers will start hurting. The combos are fun to do and the fact that for some tricks you need 2 fingers is very interesting in my opinion. You have a button for Spins but that’s it – everything is freestyle and I personally like it. Even though the game requires some environment action (when you move from a layer to another – for example you jump on an edge) I did not found any problems at all. Also, for as long as I played, I did not encounter any bug, freeze or crash.
Addictiveness: Epic Skater gets 9 out of 10. I honestly did not think that I will give the game such a good rating but it just got to me. I found myself still playing the game after 1 hour and I can’t wait to finish the review to go and play some more. The game is simple and does not have any things to do besides skating on the same map over and over again but there is something, I don’t really know what, that makes you addicted to the game. I think that Epic Skater is a must for gamers that like skateboard related stuff and that even the players that don’t know much about the phenomenon will enjoy it. Epic Skater is a simple yet fun game that will undoubtedly fill your spare time for a while.
Overall, I give Epic Skater 8.5 out of 10. I don’t know about you guys but I need to go and play it right now.
