Upgrade your weapons frequently to obtain guns with high aim and distance, this way you can eliminate targets from a distance without risking your life. When you are approaching a group of zombies, always use the grenade instead of shooting at them. This way you eliminate a large group of targets without wasting one bullet. Only reload when you’re completely out of ammo and don’t wastefully spend on new outfits before filling up you reserves.

Review

Dead Route was more in depth than many of the infinite run games of played, contrastingly, it was especially deficient in content and role playing than many of the zombie game I’ve played, in general it meshed two genres and failed to gain any of the positive aspects of either.

Gameplay was monotonous and easy. I understand that the auto aim was added because you couldn’t avoid obstacles and shoot at zombies, however this game is falsely represented as an “action and adventure game”, and it’s a running game plain and simple.

Also there wasn’t much in the way of strategy, you simply dodge and shoot when you’re told to. Nevertheless, every game has its good sides. The graphics weren’t bad, the controls were easy to learn, and I could see this being a decent side game to play while you’re waiting in line or at the doctor’s office.

Ratings

Visual 8/10
The developers were clearly going for a post-apocalyptic steam punk atmosphere and they were successful in doing so with crisp graphics in high definition.

Sounds & Special Effects 3/10
The choice of hardcore heavy metal as the primary genre of the game, as well as the jarring sounds of zombies and gunshots, although appropriate, was incredibly hard to bear. Furthermore, it’s not as if this music was varied or chosen specifically for a certain situation, essentially the same tune would repeat over and over it nearly drove me mad.

I would highly recommend they insert some calmer music at least on loading screens, or when you’re not in a fighting atmosphere, to provide a brief respite from the intensity of their current playlist. Also, although rock n’ roll is very popular, heavy metal is a fringe genre, unless they were appealing to a highly specific demographic, I would suggest something a tad more mainstream.

Gameplay was monotonous and easy as I stated before. It was however intuitive and fun so I could see it being great for commutes or quick gaming.

Story / Originality 1/10
No creative or original thought went into creating this game. The main character looks like Lara Craft from Tomb Raider, it’s about a zombie apocalypse, gameplay is essentially [insert running game here]

Addictiveness 9/10
Although Dead Route is monotonous and unoriginal these are great assets for making a game addictive. Also it’s very simple and it starts up easily. I could easily get lost in this game if I had nothing else to do, if you get stuck on a level you have an urge to repeat it over and over again because it seems deceptively easier than it actually is.
Also, because there is no real strategy besides dodge and shoot, you can mindlessly get lost in Dead Route for hours. Its addictive qualities are probably why its’ so well beloved and popular on both Android and Apple platforms.
