King Arthur has commanded you to protect Queen Morgause against the Picts and other invading kingdoms, which means it is your responsibility to change her small homestead into a thriving fortress. Just as the smallest acorn grows into a looming sentinel, you will bring about the birth of a powerful economic and military entity that will inspire fear in the hearts of your enemies. All that’s required of you is patience, planning, and a little bit of luck.

When you first begin Kingdoms of Camelot, the most important aspect of the app that you need to be aware of is the Quest menu. This menu can be opened by tapping the button labeled “Quests” at the bottom of your screen. This will take you to a list of tasks that you need to complete if you want to increase the power of your kingdom. With every task you complete, you will be rewarded with gold, resources, experience, or all of the above. Kingdoms of Camelot provides suggestions for which task you should complete next, which will be displayed as a banner notification with Queen Morgause’s face on it. Make sure to click “collect reward” on each task after you finish it!

Your first tasks in Kingdoms of Camelot will be simple; farms need to be established, sawmills will be built, quarries excavated, and mines to be stripped of precious ore. Since you also need people to harvest these materials, you will also be assigned the task of building cottages for your workers to live in. The number of plots of land you can build on are limited, so you must use effective planning to determine how many of each building you should construct. For example, more cottages means more workers, but since you only have a limited amount of building space, you will have to balance the amount of land used with your use of upgrades for the cottages you build. Upgrading buildings increases the work capacity of the establishment being upgraded; if you upgrade a quarry, that quarry will produce more stone, and an upgraded cottage can hold more villagers in that single plot of land. With some practice, you’ll soon have a solid grasp on the basics of construction in Kingdoms of Camelot.

After you create your basic economic foundation, you’ll be able to move on to other aspects of your soon-to-be kingdom. Within the city walls, you can construct buildings that provide military benefits, technology upgrades, and further economic growth. One of the very first buildings you construct within the city will be the barracks, where you can train various classes of soldiers. You’ll only be able to train militia and supply soldiers (looters) when you’re starting out, but don’t worry too much about that; as you continue to upgrade existing buildings and construct new types of buildings, a wider variety of soldier classes will be available for you to train. Another important building you will often rely on is the alchemy lab; this is where you can research technologies that will increase the efficiency of your laborers, or boost the power of you soldiers, among other things. One more building that deserves special mention is the storehouse. Whenever you get attacked by invaders, you will lose all of your resources, except for what can be held in your storehouse. Upgrading this building will allow you to protect more of the resources you gather within Kingdoms of Camelot, but the tradeoff is taking up space that could be used for other buildings. Luckily, you’re protected from invaders until your reach level 5, or after 7 days, so you won’t have to worry about losing any resources until you meet one of those criteria.

On that note, Kingdoms of Camelot is filled with other players who are out for your resources; because of this, an effective defense is necessary for every player who is no longer protected by the 7 day/level 5 grace period. Upgrading your wall will convert the flimsy barriers into a more fortified defense, and further upgrades of your wall and other buildings will allow you to train defensive units, which are used strictly for the defense of your fortress. For example, once you have a level 6 wall, a level 6 blacksmith, and level 5 fletching, you will be able to create your first wall-mounted crossbow. The wall-mounted crossbow is great for destroying enemy siege weapons, but it isn’t very effective against soldiers. Caltrops, which require a level 1 wall and level 1 Metal Alloys tech, can stop the advance of enemy infantry until the caltrops are cleared away by you or your opponents. Spiked barriers and traps also serve similar purposes, but they have their own strengths and weaknesses against each class of soldier.

As with your defensive units, your soldiers used for attacks will also have certain requirements, strengths, and weaknesses that are unique to their class. For example, militiamen require level 1 barracks, and are useful for scouting and serve as excellent cannon-fodder when attacking other players. Militiamen fall quickly to any other soldiers, which means militiamen are usually considered “disposable” troops. Pikemen are good against cavalry, swordsmen are excellent against archers because of their shields, but archers can quickly wipe out pikemen while the cavalry takes out the swordsman, provided you match or outnumber your enemy’s numbers. Once you have a solid understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of your soldiers, you will be able to crush any opponents that stand in your way.

Kingdoms of Camelot Cheats and Tips

Collect the Freebies– Each day that you open the Kingdoms of Camelot app, you will earn a daily login reward, which gives items, food, or gems. You will also gain one special token that allows you to play a game of Chance with Merlin the Wizard; you simply pick a chest from the lot, and hope you get something good! Remember to always collect the freebies, otherwise you’re letting good things go to waste.

Balance Your Income– When you’re starting out in Kingdoms of Camelot, it can be really difficult to decide which resources you should focus on collecting, and how much of each resource you should be gaining in a set period of time. A good rule of thumb is to focus on earning 4 parts wood, 2 parts ore/food, and one part stone at any given time. Wood is especially important in the beginning of Kingdoms of Camelot due to the sheer amount of construction work you’ll be doing. If you can customize your income to perfectly suit your needs, you will have much less trouble transitioning from a small town into a large kingdom.

Want to Fight? Prepare Yourself First- Before you decide to head off and smash your adversaries, it may be a good idea to make sure you are financially secure, before you train your troops and right before you deploy them. Armies are a massive drain on your food supply, so it would definitely be wise to upgrade some farms, or maybe even build some new ones. If you are left with no food after you train troops, you will likely be vulnerable to attack if your own conquest fails; with no food to train soldiers for your protection, you will be doomed. Because of this, it is wise to temporarily bump up food production to help break even with the strain put on your food supply, then only deploy your troops when you know you are wealthy enough to train more recruits if your army is destroyed. If you follow this piece of advice, you’ll be so powerful that your friends will think you’re using Kingdoms of Camelot cheats.

Use Your Knights– The Knight’s Hall allows you to assign your knights to leadership roles, which in turn gives you boosts to your productivity. For example, you can assign a knight to be a Steward, which gives a 1% per level increase in your resources production. It truly benefits you to create a hierarchy within your kingdom, and it would be wise to look into assigning leadership roles if you haven’t already. This little secret can give you such a boost that you may as well be using hacks for Kingdoms of Camelot.

Join an Alliance- You have the option to gain allies within Kingdoms of Camelot, and this can be done by tapping the “Alliance” button at the bottom of your screen. This should bring up a list of existing alliances that are looking for more people, and you also have the option to create your own alliance and wait for others to join. The benefits of joining an alliances includes a group chat and resource donations when you’re in need. With friends by your side, your chances of survival and victory in your conquests rise dramatically.

Magic Gems– Tired of waiting for upgrades? Luckily for you, a stash of magic gems are available to you. Magic gems can instantly complete construction or upgrades, but be aware that your stash of gems is finite; the only way to replenish your stock of gems is via IAP (In-App Purchases). I definitely recommend using gems if you have the cash to spare, but if not, make sure to only use your gems if you absolutely need them.

Kingdoms of Camelot Review

Before I dive into this, let me admit that I’ve never really been attracted to games like Kingdoms of Camelot before. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike strategy games, but the descriptions and screenshots of similar apps have never enticed me into downloading them. I simply passed them by. After deciding to try out Kingdoms of Camelot, however, my views on mobile strategy gaming have taken a complete 180 degree turn; playing Kingdoms of Camelot for about an hour got me thoroughly hooked! The thing that surprises me most about Kingdoms of Camelot is the sheer compulsion I feel to open up and play the app, but I have no clue why! It could be the cool art style, the strategic challenges, or maybe even the early medieval theme, but something about Kingdoms of Camelot just keeps pulling me back, almost like Flappy Bird back in the days when it was available for download.

As I mentioned above, Kingdoms of Camelot has been an extremely addictive gaming experience for me so far. As you continue to play, more and more features of the app open up to you, which leads to a feeling of re-discovering Kingdoms of Camelot every hour or two. With each increase in your power, you gain access to stronger troops and more buildings, which keeps me feeling giddy as a kid at Christmas. I still haven’t mastered every single aspect of Kingdoms of Camelot, but I know I’ll get there eventually; one does not simply give up Kingdoms of Camelot before crushing and humiliating every town around you.

I especially enjoy the option to join an alliance with other players within Kingdoms of Camelot, and I’ve witnessed firsthand the good things that come from it. Between charity towards your allies, and a usually friendly group chat, joining an alliance adds much depth to Kingdoms of Camelot that other strategy games sorely lack. Hopefully there will be more features implemented in the future that increase the amount of interaction between allies, but I’m not saying I’m dissatisfied with the current state of alliances by any means.

The only real complaint I have of Kingdoms of Camelot is the fact that it can take so darn long for certain upgrades to finish. Of course, you can always speed up construction and upgrades with magic gems, but your supply is finite, and the only way to use them indefinitely is to purchase them via IAP. I suppose the fact that Kingdoms of Camelot is free makes this money-grab somewhat acceptable, but I still find it very annoying.

Our Overall Ratings

Artwork– Kingdoms of Camelot doesn’t exactly boast a stunning visual experience, but Kabam did a good job in creating menus that are clean-cut and easy to use, and created building models that are easy to tell apart from each other. Artwork gets a 7.5/10.

Music/SFX- I really enjoy the ambience in Kingdoms of Camelot, and it adds to the overall experience. The SFX are immersive enough to draw you into the game, but not so intrusive that they become obnoxious or repetitive. Whenever I open Kingdoms of Camelot, the music and sound effects instantly put me in the mood to play; I feel that Kabam definitely nailed the setting and mood that they were trying to create. Music/SFX gets a 10/10

Story/Originality– Kingdoms of Camelot definitely has a unique, albeit loosely followed story premise, and the gameplay mechanics have been done before with other strategy apps. Kingdoms of Camelot is something of a basic strategy template with a twist added, which isn’t a bad thing, but it takes away from the originality rating by a small amount. Story/Originality receives a 6/10.

General Gameplay- Despite the fact that Kingdoms of Camelot isn’t the newest, shiniest, most innovative app out there, I still have loads of good fun whenever I hop in and play it for a while (which is quite often, believe me). I think Kingdoms of Camelot will stay on my device for quite some time before I get bored with it, so I’m going to rate the General Gameplay as a 9/10.

Addictiveness– Like I mentioned before, Kingdoms of Camelot is extremely addictive once you really start getting into the meat of the game, and I have a feeling that most people will have some trouble putting it down for longer than a day. Addictiveness gets a rating of 10/10.

Overall, Kingdoms of Camelot deserves a rating of 8.5/10.
