I had heard about Grabatron, before I stared downloading and playing it. I would like to state that my expectations were met, and I had a lot of fun playing the game. I really like the fact that the developers took their time to design all the different objects in the game. You can even tell by looking at the level designs that the developers took their time to develop and design them.

A very positive aspect about Grabatron is that the game does not contain any advertisements, at least in the Android version of the game. Many developers do not know how to properly place advertisements, thus causing the advertisements to be very annoying and obstructive for the player. It is understandable when mobile games have advertisements in them, but the developers should really spend time on learning how to properly place them. Thankfully, you do not have to think about this when you are playing Grabatron.

Another very positive aspect about Grabatron is that the developers did not implement any kind of playtime limitations in the game. You do not have an energy bar, timer or a live limit, which means that you can play the game whenever you want, however long you want. I always like it when I can play a game on my own terms, without being forced to wait because I have ran out of energy or any other silly limitation like that.

 

In my opinion, Grabatron is a very balanced and great game to play when you are bored, but unfortunately it also has several negative aspects. The first negative aspect that comes to mind is the fact that purchasing new airships and upgrading those airships costs a lot of crystals. You can obtain and save up crystals by playing the game, but to be able to collect a million crystals, will take a really long time. This means that, if you want to be able to purchase better airships, you will either have to play Grabatron for a very long time and spend a lot of time on it, or you will have to purchase crystals in the in-game store. Of course, the developers made sure to have different crystal packages for sale.

 

Even though I understand that the developers want to make some money for the time and effort they have put into Grabatron, they should at least implement some sort of a reward system for their loyal players. Right now, Grabatron feels like a cheap cash grab for me, making it very difficult to obtain large amounts of crystals, but coincidently offering a lot of crystals in the in-game store. The developers should know that not everyone can afford to spend money on a free-to-play mobile game.

 

The second negative aspect about Grabatron is that different areas are locked away, and are only unlockable by spending a lot of crystals on them. This negative aspect goes back to the one I have mentioned above, which basically means that you either have to be patient and spend a lot of time collecting crystals, or you have to spend money on the game and purchase crystals. Right now, it feels like the developers of Grabatron are simply punishing their players, instead of rewarding them for being loyal and playing their game.

Artwork: I give Grabatron an 8/10 for its artwork. The graphics of Grabatron are very decent, especially considering that it is a mobile game. I really enjoyed the game because of the many animations and special effects, which really make the game feel alive. You can clearly tell that the developers have spent a lot of time, designing the different levels, airships and all of the objects and characters in the game. I really appreciate developers that do this, because it shows that they care about their game and want to bring entertainment to their players. The developers did a good job combining the graphics and animations of Grabatron, making the game very balanced and entertaining to play.

 

Music & SFX: I give Grabatron a 7/10 for its music and SFX. Grabatron only has one soundtrack implemented in it, which is the main menu music. During the gameplay, there are no soundtracks, but this did not bother me much. Luckily, there are a lot of sound effects and special effects in the game, which really enhances the gameplay and makes the game fun to play. I like hearing humans shouting at the airship and the farm animals, who are scared. There are a lot of nice explosion SFX, which sound realistic. I think that the developers did a good job combining the music and SFX of Grabatron with its graphics and animations.

 

Story & Originality: I give Grabatron an 8/10 for its story and originality. There are dozens and dozens of alien related games available on both Google Play Store and iOS App Store, but I have never seen or played a game like Grabatron. This makes the game very original in my book, and I really enjoyed seeing all the different features in the game. I really like the fact that the developers have come up with their own original game ideas, instead of copying from others. There is no story behind the game, but it is easy to make one up as you play the game.

 

General Gameplay: I give Grabatron an 8/10 for general gameplay. There is no tutorial at the beginning of the gameplay in Grabatron, but it is not very difficult to get used to the controls and the objectives of the game. After playing Grabatron for a while, the gameplay will become pretty straightforward, but still very entertaining to play due to all the different levels and airships. I really like the fact that the developers give you two different options for controls, and also help you to calibrate your mobile device so that he controls will responsive and correct.

 

Addictiveness: I give Grabatron an 8/10 for addictiveness. It is very refreshing to see that there are still developers out there that do not implement any playtime limitations into their games. Another very positive aspect that really increases the addictiveness of Grabatron, is the fact that there are no annoying or obstructive advertisements in the game. Both of these aspects really makes Grabatron very addictive in my opinion. What I really like about Grabatron is that there are multiple levels, which you can only access by playing very well. This adds a huge challenge into the game, and I am a person who enjoys having challenges in games. The only obstacle in the game, which lowers the addictiveness level, is the fact that it is very difficult to purchase high tier airships. They cost a fortune and collecting enough crystals to be able to purchase them, can take a lot of time. However, you can purchase crystals in the in-game store.

 

All things considered, I give Grabatron an 8/10.
