As the gameplay perfectly follows the old formula in Backgammon Plus, the new ideas must be introduced in the form of social interactions. If you login to Facebook, your game will immediately update your friends list and show your Facebook friends, who you can invite and play with at any time, if they accept. You also get access to achievements and can send gifts to your friends. There are three ways to play with people other than your friends. The first way to play is by the Play Now feature, which immediately matches you with someone near your skill level. The second mode is Select Room, where you can see the stats of players already sitting in Backgammon rooms, so you can easily choose opponents near your level or even ones that are stronger than you. The third way to play is by Create Room, where you get to decide on the chip bet amount and players can then decide to join your game.
Once in a game, you have the option to chat with your opponent at any time, or even give up, if you feel like the current match is hopeless. If you feel confident though, then you can even double the stakes.
Chips are few and far between at first though, as you only start with around 500 pieces, but as you play games, there will be a treasure chest above the player avatars. Every 5-10 minutes of gameplay you can open this chest to redeem 100-250 chips for free. Logging in every day will also award each player with 250 chips.
Backgammon Plus also has numerous in-app purchases in case you want to get more chips to play with. These start from packs of 50,000 chips for $1.99, while the most expensive one gives you 25,000,000 chips for $34.99.

When you first play the game, your biggest problem will no doubt be the fact that you will have a very small amount of chips to risk on matches. To remedy this, try to claim your daily login rewards and the treasure chests in each game you play.
Lastly, if you wish to make the gameplay more fluid than it is, then you can consider turning on the autoroll, which will roll the dice for you anytime it’s your turn. This can make turns go by faster, just don’t forget to move in time!
To be honest, I never played Backgammon in my life, before trying Backgammon Plus. At first I felt really confused about what’s going on, but after learning the basics of the game, it actually became something that I actually got to enjoy!
As Backgammon Plus doesn’t have any kind of tutorial, it felt hard for me to get into the game, especially as I got thrown in against a real player immediately after logging in. This took me by surprise and I lost my first match soon after.
After reading the rules and basics of the game, I felt more confident in going for a second match, even though I lost most of my chips in the first one. Thankfully the game allowed me to create a room myself and set the stakes to as low as possible. There are over 6500 players online at most times, which means there will always be people who will play for small stakes.
I played numerous other matches and finally won one, which felt pretty great, as a new player. I never expected to learn the game as fast as I did, but unfortunately this is not thanks to Backgammon Plus, but more to online resources about the rules. I really felt like the game was lacking a short tutorial, since this way it’s not as welcoming for new players as it could be.
My conclusion is that Backgammon Plus is a great Backgammon game for anyone to enjoy with friends, or to compete with random strangers. Still, new players will have to put more effort into research, before really committing themselves to it.

Artwork: The artwork of Backgammon Plus gets an 8/10. The beautiful woody textures and clean design really helps veteran Backgammon players feel at home while playing this game. The menus are very easy to navigate thanks to this well thought out style as well.
Music & SFX: The SFX of the game deserves a 6/10. This game doesn’t have any music whatsoever, but instead includes a Music menu option, which allows players to open and listen to any of their music apps while playing. This is not as unique of an idea as it sounds at first, as this could be done in any game already, so it feels more like an excuse to not add a dedicated musical track into the game. The SFX is pretty simple as well, limited to short click sounds when moving checkers.
Story & Originality: I give the originality of the game a 8/10. This is Backgammon, and it’s exactly as you would expect. There are not many new features to be found here, other than the social interactions, such as Facebook or the chat. Still, the execution and design is one of the best on the market, so this definitely deserves a positive rating.
General Gameplay: Regarding the general gameplay, Backgammon Plus gets an 8/10 as well. The gameplay is true to its roots, it doesn’t try to stray away from it in any way. The social features like the ability to play with your Facebook friends, as well as achievements and leaderboards are a nice addition. The only issue might be the fact that players new to the game will have a hard time gaining enough chips, but this can be resolved by looking out for free rewards.
Addictiveness: The addictiveness of this title gets an 8/10 from me. Once you feel confident in your Backgammon skills, you will have countless hours of fun with this game. When you reach a level where you can consistently win games, this is one of the most addicting board games!
