Flow Free: Bridges Tips & Hack for Hints & All Packs Unlock

Amazing graphics or stunning visuals are one thing, but what are they without addicting gameplay? Flow Free: Bridges presents a simplistic design, combined with 1350 free and challenging levels in the style of the original Flow Free. Can you master the new bridges mechanic and perfect all the levels?

Flow Free: Bridges is a puzzle game by Big Duck Games, the developer of the highly popular, original Flow Free. They have also released the colorful titles of Fireworks Arcade and Spark Art over the years.

Flow Free: Bridges is rated 4.2/5 stars on the Google Play Store, while it has gained 4.5/5 stars for its most popular version on the Apple App Store. The game is free to download on Android, but costs $0.99 on iOS. Let’s go ahead and check out whether this game is really as addicting as it promises to be!

Most puzzle games use one of two design choices regarding their gameplay mechanics: Some of them constantly introduce new mechanics as you progress in the game, leaving earlier ones behind, or mixing them with new ones. Games like Flow Free: Bridges on the other hand use the same mechanic on all of their levels, while trying to keep it fresh by varying the challenges on each level.

Now, what is this mechanic, though? It’s best described as connecting dots with lines to ones that match in color, while filling up the entire board. There are always two dots of the same color, so connecting them is not too hard. The trick comes in when you realize that lines can’t cross eachother, otherwise the new one breaks the already laid out line. Not only you have to keep this in mind, but also the fact that you have to fill the entire board with these lines, while making sure they connect the dots.

A new mechanic introduced in Flow Free: Bridges are the bridges, as suggested by the title. These act as a shortcut and are placed on each level in carefully planned positions. If two of your lines were to cross, bridges can help with that: They let one line cross through them vertically, under the bridge, while also allowing a second line pass horizontally, on the bridge itself. This makes it so that you can cross two lines using the bridge shortcuts, which not only adds a new mechanic, but also a new challenge to each level.

This might not seem so hard at first, on starter 5×5 tileset levels, but as you reach harder ones, such as 9×9, 11×11 or 14×14 boards, the game will become extremely difficult. At first you are supposed to play the Starter Pack, which only includes 5×5 and 6×6 boards, but you also have the option to skip these and go directly to the most difficult 14×14 boards.

Other than the usual Free Play levels, Flow Free: Bridges also includes a Time Trial mode, where you can race against the clock and try to beat your highscore. Set the time limit from 30 seconds to 4 minutes and the board size from 5×5 to 9×9 tiles, then do your best!

If you were to somehow finish the insane amount of 1350 free levels, there is still an option to purchase the 7 premium level packs, adding 900 more levels. Each of these cost either $0.99 or $1.99, but the best deal is to Unlock All Level Packs for $1.99. There are also hints available to buy in packs of 5 hints for $0.99, or 20 hints for $2.99. If you were to wish for new color themes to use, you can also buy 5 of those for $0.99 each, or unlock all for $1.99.

Flow Free: Bridges includes some banner ads at the bottom of the pages as well, even during levels. These can be disabled by buying any of the level pack in-app purchases.

Cheats & Tips for Flow Free: Bridges

As a lot of puzzle games, Flow Free: Bridges can also become fustratingly hard at times, therefore hints and cheats can be pretty useful. The game even has levels locked by in-app purchases, which you might wish to unlock using cheats. Read on for some of the tips and tricks I have in store for you!

One of the first ways to gain a huge advantage in the game is by using the hints system. Each hint will show you a correct line placement, which can be just what you need to finish a level. Be mindful though that the hints are limited, and unless you unlock more, you will run out of them pretty fast!

As for a tip, you should remember that Free Play levels don’t have any kind of time or move limitation, therefore you can readjust the lines as many times you wish. In Time Trial mode though, you will want to play as fast as possible, and wasting too much time on a level will be disadvantageous.

Another thing you should keep in mind is that you are not forced to play each level in order, if you don’t like one or it’s too hard, then leave it and choose another!

Flow Free: Bridges Review

Flow Free: Bridges is a game that looks extremely simple, and I made the mistake of thinking it was just as easy to play. Oh, how wrong I was!

The game started me off with a few basic levels, where the solutions are as obvious as it gets, so certainly nobody can fail them. This went on for the first bunch of levels, and it didn’t change for a long time. Around level 30 or so, they became challenging enough that I had to spent more than a few minutes on a single one, or had to use trial and error to beat them. These 5×5 and 6×6 boards were pretty fun though, even after they became hard.

Still, I was curious and decided to play the bigger boards as well, such as 9×9 and 14×14. Well, turns out these are meant for very experienced players, as not only dots can be connected at times without filling the whole board, but the spaces are so huge between them that it really makes you think about your moves. Walls are less limiting and ideal decisions are harder to make, so trial and error also becomes a bigger factor than before.

Overall, Flow Free: Bridges is a game perfect both for beginners to the puzzle genre, with its numerous 5×5 and 6×6 levels, and also to veterans who can finish 14×14 boards in a minute without issue. If you want a simple to learn and hard to master, but greatly enjoyable puzzle game, then get this one!

Ratings

Artwork: The artwork of Flow Free: Bridges deserves a 7/10 rating. This game definitely didn’t become so popular for its visuals, since they are as basic as it gets. Simple colored lines and dots are what make up each level, while the menus also follow the same design. The artwork is either a hit or miss, but it matches the simplistic flow of the gameplay very well.

Music & SFX: I give the SFX of the game a 5/10. This title doesn’t feature any kind of music whatsoever, neither in the menus or in levels. This makes the experience a bit too quiet, especially as the SFX are also entirely limited to waterdrop sounds whenever you make a match, or tap on a button in the menus.

Story & Originality: The originality of Flow Free: Bridges gets a 7/10 from me. The whole idea of Flow Free is not exactly unique, but it successfully popularized the dot connecting puzzle games by creating one that is both easy to pick up, simple to use, and yet hard to master.

General Gameplay: I give the general gameplay an 8/10. The gameplay is both the most important and therefore most polished part of this game, for sure. Learning the dot connecting and bridge mechanics is very easy, even without a tutorial. The game feels really intuitive and has a lot of content going for it.

Addictiveness: For the addictiveness of the game, it gets an 8/10 as well. There are 1350 free levels and 900 premium levels for the price of $1.99, which is almost a steal, if someone loves these kind of puzzles. Be prepared to be addicted and entertained for a very long time, if you decide to try this challenging puzzle title!

Overall Score: 7/10.
