I must admit, that’s what I also thought at first. However, I encountered an interesting puzzle game that will probably be a good replacement for those of you who finished the mighty Candy Crush Saga. Or got stuck indefinitely on an obscure level.
Probably the best feature Frozen Frenzy Mania has is the fact that the developers approached a rather uncommon feature for puzzle games. You don’t have a target score, you always have objectives. The complexity of the objectives gradually increases but you are never required to reach a score in order not to lose a stage. If you reach the target number you are required to, you are good to go. Of course, you can also replay the level and get those 3 shiny stars but that is only a personal choice. Even though there are many similarities with other puzzle games, I appreciate the fact that Frozen Frenzy Mania has a proper theme and focuses on it.
If you take the theme literally, you will probably wonder why that penguin needs so many frozen treats – it’s the global warming, guys, I tell you (I am joking here, by the way). The stages are structured in levels and each 10 levels or so, you have a slightly different theme – for example the first batch is about getting to know the game while the second batch is about providing a walrus with ice-cream. I like that the game is suitable for all ages and doesn’t feel too childish – if you don’t like the story, you can focus just on the puzzle.
Like in any previously reviewed game, I have also encountered some things I don’t like about Frozen Frenzy Mania or would change if given the possibility. First of all, I believe that, at the moment, this game is way too similar with other more popular titles. I said it before and I will keep saying: I like that you have objectives but why stop there? Why don’t you invent some new twisted game modes? For example, a mode where your tiles are changed periodically or other modes where you aren’t allowed to use a color – using the imagination can do wonders. To be honest I am bored of matching tiles around with no bigger purpose.
Secondly, I believe that the objectives should be reconsidered. Currently, you have some “missions” which are basically the same thing as the level’s main objective. Invent some random stuff and use it as a bonus objective can’t be that hard. Finally, as a personal preference, I am a bit disappointed about the game’s turnaround. As time passes by and you complete more and more levels, the original elements Frozen Frenzy Mania slowly fade away and you will are left with just another puzzle game with nothing special but a different theme.
Overall, Frozen Frenzy Mania is a game that I would probably recommend. Personally, I get bored of this kind of games fast but I still believe that if you fancy them, you will definitely have a good experience with this one. It is also free of charge on both platforms.

Artwork: Frozen Frenzy Mania gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its artwork. Because the game is a puzzle title and the theme is cartoonish and colorful, you can’t expect any last generation visual graphics. However, as a whole, the game doesn’t look bad. The layout is interesting, the level design reflects a rich imagination and the characters are nicely created and animated. There are some animations effects realized but there isn’t anything out of the ordinary about those – I believe that a rookie can easily reproduce them. The good thing is that Frozen Frenzy Mania is the living proof that a game doesn’t need to have outstanding graphics to look decent.
Music & SFX: I give Frozen Frenzy Mania a rating of 8 out of 10 for its music and sound effects. Surprisingly or not, the soundtrack from this game is above average. The song they used is catchy (I found myself humming it) and it provides an entertaining enough atmosphere. However, if you ask me, adding one or two more songs would have been a great idea. The sound effects aren’t particularly interesting but at least they properly “do” their job – keep the player interested.
Story/Originality: The game gets a rating of 6 out of 10 at this section. Like you probably have already guessed, I can’t get past the fact that Frozen Frenzy Mania is similar to a lot of other puzzle games out there. I appreciate that there is a whole other story told but that’s not good enough. The tiles, the sound effects and the overall theme – they all point out to Candy Crush. That is not necessarily a bad thing because the game has the potential to be considered an authentic title (with proper changes and updates) so there is still hope.
General Gameplay: I give Frozen Frenzy Mania a rating of 8 out of 10 for its gameplay. It’s a puzzle game so you shouldn’t encounter any problems in understanding the controls or the mechanics. You have a thorough tutorial that will run on several levels so after it’s complete, you should be fine. The difficulty of the game slowly but steady increases and there is a 5-lives system implemented so you should prepare for some annoying levels where only luck will pass you through. For the time I’ve played, I haven’t encountered any major bugs, crashes or freezes.
Addictiveness: Frozen Frenzy Mania gets a rating of 7 out of 10 for its addictiveness. At its current state, the game can’t be considered a very addictive title. If you like puzzles, you will definitely spend a lot of time with Frozen Frenzy Mania but if you don’t, this will not be the breakthrough you’re expecting. There isn’t anything to do besides the usual puzzle stages, one by one, until you get stuck and lose all your lives. Fortunately or not, that is a widespread problem to all puzzles so it’s not Frozen Frenzy Mania’s developers fault.
Overall, Frozen Frenzy Mania gets a rating of 7.4 out of 10. There is still a long way until you can say that this game will be the most played puzzle title in the world but one man can hope. However, with some luck (that’s what puzzles are about anyway) and with smart changes, it can definitely reach the tops.
