When you first download Kitchen Scramble you’re going to encounter a tutorial which I highly recommend you pay close attention to because although Kitchen Scramble is fairly intuitive in its gameplay you will not pick everything up as you go along, as you can in some games. The controls are very basic, you select an ingredients by clicking on it, to interact with an appliance merely have the desired ingredient, or ingredients based on the recipe, in hand and select the appliance.

Much like in real life, when you start out in Kitchen Scramble you will notice that often times the same customers prefer the same dish. When a customer comes up to your food truck there will be a brief period of waiting where a question mark will be over their head, indicating they are thinking about what they like, there isn’t a fool proof way to know exactly what they want but especially early on you can predict what they want based on what they usually get.

For example the news reporter at first gets salads almost every time for the first few levels, once you get to the next stage she likes onion rings. The fat trucker starts off liking bacon, then he moves on to hamburgers, etc. If you notice a customer whose been getting a certain dish the past few times, it’s reasonable to expect they will get that same dish at least for the next couple of dishes. Occasionally you will get thrown a curveball, if you end up making the wrong dish prematurely just toss that dish in the trash can start over.

Still, don’t get to reliant on the guessing game, taking too long on an order will lead to some displeased customers. When a customer first places their order you will notice there are five red hearts next to their head, these indicate the customers patience. The longer it takes you to make the order the less hearts you’ll see. The more hearts a customer has by the time you give them your order, the more of a tip you will receive, when people go to a food truck that means thy want their food quickly, if you can do that for them they will reward you handsomely.

In your own status bar you will notice a heart meter that indicates how many hearts you’ve received. Once a customer’s order is filled however many hearts they had remaining will be deposited in your heart meter, when your heart meter is filled to the max you will earn the distinction “on fire” which can lead to increasing coins and tips from customers. Usually, if you can serve a customer who has five hearts left you’ll get a “heart boost” which will automatically fill your heart meter to maximum.

In Kitchen Scramble multitasking is the name of the game if you can’t multitask while there are 5 or more customers at your window looking to fed you will be low on hearts and low on cash, and your customers will be low on patience. It’s important to maximize your capabilities by first maximizing your inventory. Kitchen Scramble gives you the option of upgrading your appliances for quicker preparation times and added bonuses. As you will quickly notice, each appliance requires a certain amount of preparation time, for example it takes around 15 second for the frying pan to work, and upgrading will lower that time to 10, and eventually 7, and so on.

You can find a lot of the supplies you need at the Food Truck Market, this market is located in the middle of every city you encounter. Save up your coins and spend them here to get the most out of your inventory. You can also purchase what are known as “power ups”. Power ups are essentially cheats that can be purchased in game to help you get around some limitations. For example , if you let food cook for too long it will urn, you can get a power up and make it so no dishes can burn for that entire day.

But before you do any of that you’re going to need some coins. Like we briefly mentioned earlier you get coins by serving customers, the better the job you do the more coins you receive, there are also great cheats that will earn you some more coins, and sometimes free coins can also be received via these cheats. One of the easiest ways to receive bonus coins, besides being amazing at your job, is to purchase premium ingredients. You can straight up buy these via the on screen menu before the game begins, or you can take to social media to ask your friends to give you some coins. Premium ingredients lead to extra tips and more pay, this will allow you to level up faster without having to do anything outside of your ordinary work.

Each game session, or “workday”, also comes with it several in game objectives, these range from earnings objectives to time objectives. Completing these objective will earn you star tokens, for each star mastery you will receive one star token, the maximum that can be earned in a single game session is three tokens. You can also earn star tokens by completing objectives for that specific city that you are in. These tokens allow you to bypass certain token gates which will charge you tokens to access the rest of the map. If you do not have enough tokens to bypass the gate you will be asked to redo some of the locations.

Coins aren’t always earned through hard work, you can earn free coins by watching video advertisements, connecting to your social media accounts, and inviting friends to join you in Kitchen Scramble.

The final important aspect of Kitchen Scramble is supply. In order to cook you of course need ample supplies, and by supplies we mean cooking ingredients. Supplies are “energy” aspect of Kitchen Scramble. You begin Kitchen Scramble with 50 supplies and each game session requires 10 supplies and once you are out of them you must wait to have those supplies refilled. Of course you can always purchase supplies, and coins, using real world money from the in app store, or you can just wait it out. Kitchen Scramble Review

As a former restaurant employee, and frequent food truck patron, I found the mechanics of this simulation to be very accurate even in the details of the gameplay. The very restrictions, the hustle and bustle of the kitchen ,the ever present need for “speed”, the angry customers, and of course the pleasure of closing up shop and going home with a wallet full of cash. Kitchen Scramble took me back to those days and I think it’ll be a huge hit with service industry members as well as a great primer into the service industry for kids, tens, and even adults.

I also enjoyed that Kitchen Scramble had many different levels to it. Not only was it a simulation type game but there was also a very engaging story line where you’re this young 20 something entrepreneurial chef, competing with big name restaurants in different cities, it really immerses you in the story. Also there’s the upgrading aspect, the tokens, the time limits, this is a multidimensional game with features to delight anyone.

Furthermore, it’s colorful, it’s vibrant, and most importantly it’s fun. Although not all restaurants are actually pleasant to work at, Kitchen Scramble does a great job of showing the fun side of the service industry, as well as what makes it an exciting and rewarding career.

The developers did a great job of keeping this game free for users who didn’t want to spend any money, but they also incentivized you to purchase items without being too pushy. My only qualm was with the supply system, as often times it did throw off my rhythm.

Colorful, vivid, vibrant picture, and the graphics were crisp. I would’ve liked more animation out of the characters, there was a surprising lack of movement.

I commend the developers for turning what you would imagine to be a rather uninteresting conept into a fun, interactive, and pleasant experience. It was a pleasant surprise.

Kitchen Scramble is a game you can’t put down…that is until you’re forced to by the game itself. Although the gameplay itself is rather addictive, having to wait it out really puts on damper on any momentum you’re trying to build.
