Once I’m done with this review, match-three will replace endless runner’s top position in my list of most reviewed genres. After reviewing so many match-three games, I came to a conclusion that maybe there isn’t anything really left in this genre which previous games didn’t provide us with because almost every “new” match-three, one way or the other, feels like a clone of previous games because of which newcomers fails to earn a name for themselves. So my perception about today’s game, Pirate Treasures, is same that it will be just another match-three with, at max, a different graphical and story theme but game mechanics will be what we had seen already. Let’s see if this one is able to surprise us by going against my perception or is just another “new” match-three. Get Pirate Treasures on the App Store or Google Play Store now.
I’ll start by thanking God that its theme isn’t “let’s save the world type” but isn’t much ground breaking either. In Pirate Treasures, as its name indicates, you will take your role as a pirate, a good pirate actually, who isn’t looking to loot other ships but the one who finds and retrieves lost treasures around the globe. So you’ll be the Jack Sparrow of your ship and take crew, which are addicted to rum, through more than thousand levels across different Islands and the sea itself to find lost treasure. Background story is lacking and don’t have much logic either, I’m still wondering how they find the locations of treasures so easily.
An internet connection is required to play this game which could be a major let down especially for travelers. Daily Bonuses will be the first thing you’ll be greeted with after starting the game. You’ll get different bonus for everyday and the size of these bonuses will increase if you continue to play game every day. After collecting your daily free bonus you’ll be facing the main menu, and there aren’t much things over here neither menu is graphically attractive, it’s just vanilla. On top of the screen you’ll find lives, which unfortunately is the stamina system of this game but luckily it isn’t dependent upon number of stages you can enter, for example, like in candy crush, but instead it decreases only if you aren’t able to clear a stage. A single recharge requires thirty minutes and there can be a maximum of five lives. Other than waiting, you can ask your friends for lives, pay using in-game currency or real currency via in app purchases.
Pirate Treasures is a new “match-three” game. In order to win, you’ll need a lot of moves and boosters. They’re not that easy to come by. Download our free Pirate Treasures hack tool now, directly from our website, to easily get moves and boosters.
Our Pirate Treasures hack tool is very easy to use. You just need to download the tool, no survey, jailbreak or APK root needed! The image below will show you just how simple it is. All you have to do is enter the amount of boosters and moves you want. It’s a piece of cake!
Download our Pirate Treasures hack from our site. It takes 30 seconds to download, and another 30 seconds for it to install. Choose Android or iOS. Enter how many moves and boosters you want. Then, click the big “start” button.

Right next to lives you’ll find you current gold coins balance. Normally there are two in-game currencies but in this game there is only one, gold coins. These coins are extremely important for your progression. For first few hunts I felt that they are just enough to not to force you towards in-app purchases, but scenario changed as I reached third hunt and now I believe survival in this sea without spending real money won’t be easy. There is only one thing lift in the main menu and that is wheel of fortune, which is just another name for slots. You can use three hundred coins to get a spin and these spins will either get you a varying amount of coins or different powerups.
Now it’s time to take a look at the gameplay. Each of your treasure hunt will be divided into twenty standard and one bonus level which makes a total of twenty-one levels per hunt. As the developer boosts that there are more than one thousand exciting levels, if we do the calculation there are at least fifty treasure hunts, which I believe might feel a bit boring. I hope the game mechanics can keep us away from that kind of feelings.
A small tutorial will guide you through the basics of matching, which eventually are totally similar to any other match-three. You’ll have to match a minimum of three gems in a row to break them. Your movement will only be counted if three or more gems matches otherwise gems will revert back to their original position. Matching exactly four gems will get you an upgraded gem, which depending upon matched gems’ direction will blow up a complete vertical or horizontal line when used in a chain. If your match creates T or L shaped combination then you’ll get another upgraded gem but this time, upon usage, it will destroy both horizontal and vertical lines. Matching five gems or more than that will create a star, this star can come handy in messed up situations as it can clear all gems of a single color, for example, if its position is swapped with a green gem then your grid will be free from green gems. If there are two consecutive upgraded gems, you don’t have to use them in your chain to break them because it can be done by simply switching their places. An upgraded gems or basically bombs can also trigger other bombs resulting in a chain reaction.
Pirate Treasure shows its color slowly and it will take more than a bunch of hunts to get to its core. There are different tasks for every level. Initially you’ll have to destroy gems with a skull tattoo over them, later you’ll have to get rid of frozen tiles, destroy a specific colored gems, or get a bunch of crates to the bottom of the grid so that you can take them to your ship, and you’ll have to accomplish all of this within limited moves and when any further moves aren’t possible grid will shuffle. Yeah I know, there isn’t anything new, at least till now. Further steps into the game will reveal chained gems, locked tiles, cannons, boss battles and other wanna-be interesting things.
Chained gems are causal, you’ll have to bring other gems in to get rid of these chains. Locking leaves a tile useless as it cannot be used in a chain. I liked cannons and boss battles idea. Cannons will fire automatically after few moves, which will be mentioned on each cannon separately, and to get rid of bosses you’ll have to match out their health bar.
Bonus round are different than normal rounds. The limiting factor in these rounds is the time rather than limited moves and task here is to feed smaller fishes to different larger sea animals. These are tough as compared to normal levels and it’s difficult to get them right on first time as time will easily run out if you even make a single mistake. These bonus rounds gives plenty of gold and sometimes powerups too. Once you fail in these rounds you’ll have to wait for four hours to try it again or simply you can extend your round’s time or try it again without waiting just for $0.99.
Once again, just like every single match-three our mighty Google Play Store is blessed with, this one too contains stars rating. You can get a max of three star per levels and these stars are dependent upon your total score for that level. Score required to get three stars varies from level to level. These stars have a role to play. They are required to unlock bonus rounds, for example, thirty stars are required in first hunt to unlock bonus round, and to open secret chests three times during a hunt, for example, in first quest twenty stars are required to open chest first time, forty for the second time, and sixty out of sixty for third and the last time. After eligibility, you’ll be given a choice to select and open one of the three chests, reward here again is gold coins with or without powerups. After selecting, all chests will open up just to give you an idea what each had.
You’ll have to clear all levels to unlock next hunt and before you can enter new hunt you’ll have to provide Rum to you crew. This rum isn’t a good idea, it’s more like exploiting users whenever and wherever it’s possible. I had to pay one thousand coins to get into third hunt and that was equivalent to what I earned during second hunt which leaves no room for powerups. Developer has provided other methods like in-app purchases and asking friends for rum but why this rum was even necessary?
You’ve heard the word powerups for far too long hence let’s take a look at what kind of powerups this game offers.
Hammer – This powerup unlocks at level five and breaks a chosen gem. You have to drag this hammer to a gem to break it, which can sometimes be an issue as finger blocks view of gems. You will get three free trials and after that you’ll have to pay three hundred coins for a single usage.
Whirlwind – This unlocks at level ten. This can be even more useful than many hammers when you don’t have much moves but many tasks are left. It shuffles all gems in the gird and most of the time it even matching many gems. Again first three tries are free and a single usage requires four hundred coins.
Lightening – It’s the third and the last powerup and unlocks at level fifteen. This powerup can destroy a complete column and is perfect for the situation when all frozen tiles are at the sides and you are not getting the right tiles to match them. It costs five hundred coins making it most expensive powerup of this game.
As coins aren’t sufficient which forces the user towards the Pirate store where you can convert your, or at least your dad’s, hard earned money into in-game currency. There are just four packages available. The basic package will get you three hundred coins for $0.99. Second is the most popular package costing $4.99 and gives fifteen hundred coins in return. Third package gives three thousand coins for $9.99, and fourth and last package costs $29.99 and gives eight thousand coins. Other than coins you also purchase unlimited lives for three days for just $2.99.
Pirate Treasures is basically a mobile port of a popular Facebook game with the same name and this port is brought to us by OrangeApps Games. This game is available for Android and iOS devices as well as for web browsers through Facebook. Users requires a device with minimum Android 4.0 (ice-cream sandwich) or iOS 6.0. This review was based upon 0.9 version of Pirate Treasures and my experience with this version was not at all good. There were compatibility issues, frequent hang ups, extreme lag, I even had to restart my Xperia Z1 compact several times during review. Based upon graphics, game doesn’t looks heavy but maybe it’s because of poor coding a mid-range device will be required to run this game.
There isn’t Google Play Games sync option available for cloud saving which also means no achievements for your account. This game can only be synced with Facebook and allows you to send and receive gifts.
This game requires an internet connection to work which means that there won’t be any modified version of this game available to give you unlimited lives and coins, and device time changing trick too will not work because the game’s time is synced with server rather than device.
The only tip which I think can be useful is that focus on breaking corner frozen tiles and locks first then on rest of the grid. I cannot provide you with much tips as this game relies more on luck than logic, hence you are totally on your own.
Pirate Treasures’ gameplay development is slow. Other than powerups, elements takes a lot of time to show themselves and if it wasn’t for the images from Google Play Store I wouldn’t have played this game for more than first forty levels and i would never have known about boss fights and cannons because everything, except the annoyingly increasing difficulty, felt repetitive. Boss fights and cannon are somewhat attractive but again coupled with the slow progression they loses their charm. It’s not just the progression but tiles movement and breaking animations too feels slow and laggy.
As I have already mentioned that this game relies more on luck rather than logic and without powerups you’ll be repeating higher levels again and again, which eventually will require you to spend few bucks out of your pocket, and let’s not forget coins required to get Rum for your crew.
The UI isn’t attractive and is totally simple which puts it either on par or just slightly below from category average. Pirate Treasures is hollow when it comes to visuals, there isn’t any intro video, catchy animations, funny quotation, or any kind of graphical work to make it stand out from the bulk, and same can be said for the sound department. There are two things first one is called “there isn’t anything special to write about” and other is “there isn’t anything at all to write about”, and this game is the latter case. There isn’t any background music for the menu or even during gameplay, I’ve heard only five sounds in this game yet, you get one of them where you’re about to quit game and rest while moving tiles, other than these there is nothing!!!
The conclusion is that this game is just another “new” match-three and I don’t even know if I can say it’s a clone or not because every match-three looks similar. I kind of feel that match-three isn’t about introducing new elements anymore but about who properly places already present elements together, which certainly Pirate Treasures fails at.
Ratings
Artwork: I’ll give this game a 6.5/10 here. Artwork is empty, hollow, there isn’t anything about it except the lightening effects that you’ll gets after blasting upgraded gems, other than this all you’ll find is a plain grid with gems and few sea creatures with them.
Music & SFX: I’ll give Pirate Treasures a 6/10 for its music & SFX. As I have mentioned previously, there literally isn’t anything in this department to write about!!! Developers should understand that game cannot survive with gameplay only, decent artwork and sound details are required to keep users attached with the screen.
Story & Originality: Pirate Treasures gets a 5.5/10 for its story & originality. It’s extremely rare to find a match-three that can actually make a difference and this game isn’t an exception. Everything is repetition of previous match-threes titles.
Gameplay: I’ll give this game a 6.5/10 for its gameplay. I’ll just say why there has to be a thousand slow developing levels? Why there’s too much dependency on coins for progression? Why these gameplay destroying disease has to be a part of this game? I might increase the rating if somehow developer can provide a logical explanation for this.
Addictiveness: Pirate Treasures gets a 5.5/10 here. Difficulty raises steeply and will require load of time and patience to clear levels. Games are meant to relax people, but this one instead can become a source of frustration when you have tons of moves left and you still don’t get the last required piece of gem.
Overall I’ll give Pirate Treasures a 6/10. I’ll not recommend this game but you can try this game only if you think a different theme can make a difference for you.
