Ninja Heroes is a roleplaying game by RedGameStudio, a fairly new developer on the scene. As Ninja Heroes is their first game in 2016, we will have to rate their design decisions based entirely on it.
Ratings wise Ninja Heroes has 4.4/5 stars on the Google Play Store, with millions of downloads. A fairly good rating such as that probably entails a good game, isn’t it? Let’s delve into the Ninja War and find out for ourselves!

Anyone familiar with the Naruto series will no doubt find many well known elements in this game, be it the characters, the world setting or even the storyline. As you start the game, you are met with Naruto, your main ninja, who is causing trouble around town. To stop this behaviour and make some use of himself, he will have to study and learn new jutsu techniques.
As you progress in the storyline, you will have to defeat countless enemy ninjas, who will stand in the way of your training. Don’t worry though, as you will also meet friendly ninjas such as Sakura or Sasuke to help you out and form a team of three. As you assess your new team, you will head off to figure out the cause of a disturbance near the village, but not at the loss of your training. Is this the start of a world changing event, or just a few badly behaved ninjas?
Now, this sounds great and all, but how is the gameplay in Ninja Heroes, anyway? The gameplay uses the infamous autoplay system, which means your ninjas will keep attacking the enemy in combat, and keep using their available jutsus and abilities without your interaction. For this reason, the main way to decide the outcome of your future battles is by preparing and sending your ninjas off to school!
When you level up in the game, entirely independently of your ninjas’ level, you get new buildings unlocked in your personal village. The first building you get is the Ninjutsu School, where you can choose any of your three currently equipped ninjas and train them to learn a new jutsu or ability. Each ninja starts with some leveled abilities rated by grade, which can all be upgraded up until the best rank of SS, or you can simply make them learn new ones, until they run out of jutsu slots.
Learning jutsus is one of the best ways to prepare and make sure your ninjas will have enough power for the battles to come, but you can also choose your ninja team, instead of being stuck with the basic three! The second building in your village is the Ninja Hut, where all the different ninjas gather in your village. This is where a somewhat silly Claw game can be played, where you can try multiple times a day to lower a claw and randomly catch a ninja. There are three types of claws, which can get differently rated ninjas. Some are top rated SS, S or A, while others are only D or C.
Ninja Heroes also has an equipment system, with which you can outfit your ninjas to your will. Going to the Forge menu, you can combine crafting ingredients gained from quests and battles to form new weapons and armor pieces. Once you have enough, you can even upgrade and refine them in the Forge, then equip to your favorite ninjas, increasing their abilities such as Attack, Defense, Health and Agility.
If you still feel disappointed in your ninjas, I can recommend trying the Laboratory menu, where you can transfer jutsus from one ninja to another, combine identical ones or transfer experience from one to another. The ninja from which you transfer will be lost at the end of the process, so be careful!
As most actions in Ninja Heroes such as the Claw machine, training jutsus and upgrading equipment at the Forge is not free, you will have to make sure you have a steady income of silver. Silver can be earned in many different ways, such as by tapping on your unlocked ninjas in the village every few minutes, going to the Ramen place to rob eating ninjas, playing the Whack A Ninja minigame or redeeming your login and level up rewards. There are also countless achievements to unlock, all of which award you with silver.
A usually despised system is also back in the form of the stamina bar, as 5 stamina is required to start any quest. Fortunately your full bar is at 100, and you can get multiple bonuses and free 50 stamina refills during the level up process. This makes the limitation fair, instead of annoying.
Ninja Heroes also allows its players to spend real money in exchange for a premium currency of gold. Gold can be purchased in packs starting from 75 gold for $0.99, going up to a possible 8100 gold for $99.99. Gold can be exchanged for silver and stamina points, as well as can unlock better claw machines or let you purchase rare ingredients and ninja summon cards in the Market. If you purchase enough gold, you will also level up your VIP rank, which will give you benefits such as the possibility to skip battle sequences.
For those people who would rather spend their time doing player versus player battles though, there is the Ninja War. Ninja Heroes unlocks this feature at level 35, to make sure players are well prepared. These multiplayer battles are also executed by autoplay, but your preparations and ninja upgrades mean much more than in story quests, as real players are way tougher usually!
If you do great though, you might even end up at the top of the leaderboards in no time, where everyone will see your village as one of the most powerful out there. Players are ranked by multiple merits such as combat power or overall level, so everyone can find something to aim for!
Ninja Heroes is one of those games where cheats are few and far between, as it’s an online only game, where you are placed against real players on the leaderboards. Still, there might be some small tricks to cheat your way to success, so let me give you a few ideas, as well as tips!
As for a general tip, you should keep in mind that Ninja Heroes is mainly a management and collection game, not one that has a heavy focus on combat tactics. You should spend more of your time with outfitting and upgrading your ninjas, instead of entering each battle without preparation.
One of the best ways to make sure your ninja is up to par is by continously training and outfitting him or her. One way to go is to choose a main ninja and spend most of your silver on upgrading that one, instead of taking care of all three in your team. Placing that ninja in the front row will make sure it defeats most opposition, and even if it falls you have two remaining ones to seal the deal.
Also remember to use the Laboratory function, in case you get low level ninjas that you will not use. Transfer their experience or jutsus to your three main ninjas to make them more powerful!
If you were to run out of silver, then keep ’harvesting’ your unlocked ninjas, as well as don’t forget to take your free chances at login and levelup rewards, or to play the Whack A Ninja minigame!
Ninja Heroes is one of those games where I was somewhat afraid at first, as games made from animated series are usually not that great. Did this hold true in this title as well, or is it actually a good game for 2016?
To start it off, Ninja Heroes is an always online game, where both singleplayer and multiplayer battles can be found. As a new player I had to keep my focus on singleplayer though, as multiplayer is unlocked at high levels only.
The storyline as far as I went into it were pretty similar to the original Naruto story, with some smaller changes. Naruto and the others are trained by Kakashi and other senior ninjas, when some people start messing around the village. I got sent out to investigate, and soon found myself in much bigger trouble than a few ninjas, but I would rather avoid spoiling it.
At first I got ’in control’ of Naruto, along with Sakura and a random third guy, who seemed to be some kind of guard. We also met Sasuke on the way, but he didn’t want to join us at first. If anyone is as tired of Naruto as I am, it’s possible to swap him out for new ninjas that are won from the Claw machine.
Now, the Claw machine needs its own mention, as I found it to be a pretty fun idea. It’s somewhat silly, just as most of the game’s dialogue and presentation, but it’s an idea that actually works out well. This Claw machine mechanic turns the game from a simple RPG to a collection game, where your goal can be to gather all possible ninjas.
Other than the Claw machine, I spent most of my time managing my village and upgrading my ninjas, as well as teaching them new jutsus and crafting equipment. I was somewhat disappointed to find out that battles have no way to be interacted with, which turns this game into more of a time and resource managament sim, instead of a true RPG. This combined with the collection aspect creates a compelling game, but not one that is heavily focused on the combat.
Overall, if you like management games and min-maxing your characters, or if you are simply a fan of characters from Naruto, then Ninja Heroes will provide you with numerous hours of fun, as well as challenge once you reach the Ninja War!
Ratings
Artwork: I give the artwork of Ninja Heroes an 8/10. This game sports chibi styled characters, which actually fits perfectly with the comical and sometimes outright silly dialogues. Thankfully not only the characters, but the backgrounds and jutsu effects are also fairly detailed, and it shows that a lot of effort went into them.
Music & SFX: The music and SFX of the game gets a 7/10. The nostalgic music in this title is almost identical to the tracks from the Naruto series, which was no doubt a masterpiece in its time. The SFX on the other hand is a hit or miss, with mostly well done jutsu and combat sounds, while character voices and minigames such as Whack A Ninja have weird and annoying sounds.
Story & Originality: The story and originality gets a 8/10 from me. Regarding the story, the presentation can be somewhat confusing at first, but at least the game keeps its story close to the original series at first, to make fans feel at home. As for originality, the game combines elements of collection and management games, which is not that often seen, especially when combined with Naruto’s world.
General Gameplay: The gameplay of Ninja Heroes deserves an 8/10. If you can get past the fact that battles can’t be manually controlled and are automatically played out, then you will find the joy in this game. Time and resource management fans, as well as collection enthusiasts will surely find what they are looking for!
Addictiveness: As for the addictiveness of the game, I give it a 9/10. Be it the craving for more collectible ninjas to catch, to progress the exciting storyline or to rank on the multiplayer leaderboards, any player can find a reason to keeping coming back to this game for a long time!
Overall Score: 8/10.
