QuizUp, by developer Plain Vanilla Games Corp, is an online competitive trivia game that has you challenge people to trivia on any topic you can imagine. The game can be played with anyone around the world, allowing for people to compete and connect on a plethora topics, ranging from games and movies to even history and science. The game has you not only rely on your own knowledge of the subject, but how fast your reaction time and response to the question is. QuizUp is available for 2016 on both the App Store and as well as the Google Play Store.
The amount of topics this game has is practically everything. If you can think of it, there’s a dedicated trivia section for it, with a large community of people answering and creating questions. The game starts off with having you make an account, either through email or a social media outlet. This can be helpful when all your friends are playing it to have you instantly pop up on their in game friends list.
If you are the first of your friends to start playing, there are a variety of national (and international) players you can play online with. The next thing the game has you do is browse through about 100 topics (you only have to choose three if you want) on about everything. You would want to select as many topics you know early on, so you will not run out of questions to answer. After selecting a topic, you can begin playing.

Upon finding an opponent, you are given the name of the topic you both chose, the first questions comes up. Questions are fairly short, and may contain a picture to aid you. There are four multiple choice answers, and you must choose on within the 10 second limit to gain points, Points are allotted in a very unique way. The quicker you answer correctly, the more points you get. For every second that goes by without a correct answer, there are two less points to gain.
This is interesting, since this not only relies on your knowledge, but quickness. This also separates the person who knows the answer, to the guesser who got lucky choosing an answer at the last second. It becomes extremely intense when both players know the subject very well and are earning near perfect scores per question, making you enrage when you lose by a few seconds. You can gain XP and level up, but only in that subject. After a certain level you get certain titles per topic. For example, for Film, you ca gain the film editor title or director title, these do not really do much, but are used more for just bragging points more than anything.
Some faults to this game do lie in its online capabilities. There are a wide variety of topics to choose from, so upon matchmaking, the servers are then limited even more when finding an opponent. They are even more limited when having to find a live online player. Luckily, there are international players, but matchmaking still proves to be time wasting. When first trying to find a match, I found myself waiting a whole minute, before just receiving an error message. Then trying again, and finding an opponent after about 45 seconds.
Online matchmaking is not the best, but it could be better. When playing with friends, you can either play live online with your friend, or answer the questions on your own, then wait for your friend to answer whenever they are available. The player with the most points wins. This is a neat feature, and throws matchmaking issues out the window, but it loses that sense of competitiveness that comes with live action. Either or has its pros and cons, but it is nice that there are both to choose from for your own convenience.
Another aspect of the game that seems, well pointless, is the in game social media. You can create your profile, go onto different topics, and either upload a status or picture relating to that subject. It reminded me heavily of Twitter, uploading short texts or pictures for others to see and like or favorite. It is a nice feature, but feels extremely out of place. People go onto mobile games to play, not update their status or share a neat picture they found. People log onto social media to share social things, and it feels like QuizUp began running out of ideas to create the game more interesting, by creating a Twitter clone for their in game community.
There is not much to say tip wise for the game. It is pretty simple, you either know the content or you do not. The best way to make a significant improvement to your skill, per se, is to study up on the subject.
If you are really passionate about the subject, then looking up any info you can on it should be entertaining enough, but for a casual game, seems a bit too much. So yeah, study up if you want to do better, other than that have fun!
QuizUp is a fun little game that can keep you entertained, but it’s complexity makes it seem as if it is compensating for its decline in the amount of players they used to have, and for the lack of real innovation.
When the game first launched, the amount of topics it has was its main selling point. Anyone, anywhere can pick up and start playing, making it super accessible and easy to play. As it went on, people’s interests decreased, and they were stuck finding ways to keep people coming back for more.
Overall, it is still a fun game, but it does not stay entertaining for long, especially with a lack of friends that play as well. If you are looking for a time killer, then this game will keep you entertained for a while, but then you will have to look elsewhere.

Unlike Sudoku QuizUp is a game produced by plain Vanilla Corp. I would rate this game a 7/10 based on artwork. I would give QuizUp this amount of a rating due to the fact that it is a simple fast paced or slow paced game, depending on your choice. The artwork here is made by real photos from the historical time to maybe a few years ago when this and that event occurred. I like this artwork because they used the real photos that were in history from ages ago to towards maybe fifteen years ago. There is a wild variety you can see from whether its prehistoric time, to towards the first space ship shuttle created to travel to the moon.
The color in this games are simple, such as the primary colors, red, blue, and green to towards other variety of colors such as orange, purple, black, grey, yellow, white, and so on. The producer, Vanilla Corp has chosen one of the few right artworks. As to volcanoes erupting which you can see the slightest details there maybe. Furthermore I really like these artwork due to the fact that it is not made up by the producers. It is taken from the history of time and then using those photos for education benefits. In conclusion this is why I would give QuizUp by Vanilla Corp a total of a 7 out of 10 for rating.
Music and SFX
For music and SFX I would give Quiz up by Vanilla Corp a total of 7 out of 10 once again. The reason behind this is because it is or can be explained in one word. That one word is Simple. You can do a lot within all of this. Based on the fact that the sound effects and sudden calm music is pictured into a sweet moment whether you got the answer wrong, or right there are multiple sound effects. You can choose from a lot of different options based on the fact. Another reason is because that I am able to decide the music I would wish to hear. A variety of choices I can choose from. The sound effects etc. do not get annoyed. That’s right I said does not get annoying or boring.
You are or I am interested in this game and one of the reasons is based on the music. I really loved this music as it provided a good explanation. Without a doubt there are multiple reasons as to why I enjoy being able to listen to these music. Although this game is not built based on the music selection or section I do enjoy the music they have spent their time while developing this game. You can tell that they have putted time towards the music and the artwork. In conclusion this is why I would give Quiz up by Vanilla Corp a total rating of 7 out of 10.
Story and Originality
For story and originality I would give Quiz up a total rating of 8/10. Unlike most quiz games this one is very simple and unique. For example you are able to choose through how ever many subjects you may wish for. Another free example is that there is no story behind this game. How ever you are able to choose how ever many subjects you want such as music, gaming, artist etc. With multiple varieties you would never get bored toward this. Based on the fact that there are multiple lines of communication you can also contact them for support. In the description it states the following. “ Quiz up is a free, award- winning multiplayer trivia game.

Participate in vibrant communities around topics you are passionate about and easily discover new topics that match you interests. Each topic has a unique community where you can play, post and interact with other people.” Based on these description Vanilla corp has provided I am surprised as I am hooked just by reading the description.
I am able to interpret that you are able to make new friends after testing each other out on interests based on the subject you may choose. I can also say that there is a bit of danger saying where specifically you are living. I don’t think that is really good due to the fact that people can easily track you then afterwards. You are able to do a lot of choices in this game but the main problem I only have is due to the fact of showing the location that they provided. In that any case I really love the description based on the fact that they are able to quiz our self and other people who are from maybe the same confident or even if they are world wide. You are able to choose what you are most comfortable with and that is a benefit towards the game as I am sure this is one of the few reasons why they are able to make this game a big hit. In conclusion this is why I would give Story and originality a total rating of 8 out of 10.
General Gameplay
For general gameplay I would give Quiz up by Vanilla Corp a total rating of 8/10. I would like to start of by saying how they made their logo. This is a bonus as you can see that they make the animations really effective in capturing people’s attention. Second of all I like the fact that you are able to challenge people based on different varieties of subjects such as Music, gaming, artists musicians, professors, famous historical people, etc. you start off with a ladder you have to climb up just as everyone else may have to. That ladder will determine how famous you may be. For example one of the questions maybe the Nike logo, they may ask you where or what that specific logo may be called.
In other words, you are put into a ranking system like everyone else. In other to see who’s the best you have to work your way up with millions of people competing against you. In another way to put it, you have four choices to choose from based on the question asked. Depending on how fast and how efficient you answer the question, you will get amount of points. If you some what answer the question before the other player and you both still get it right, the player who has chosen the answer first will get more points because it shows that the person was able to know the answer before you. Once again I would like to say that this game isny annoying at all, with all of these features there are also many various other options such as getting experience points to tell you when you level up.
You have many choices and the only problem that is stopping you is the fact that you aren’t able to do any of these without you getting the app, downloading it, testing it out yourself and see how smart you are compared to others. You must also consider yourself that you are a very good person based on the fact of many other options. In conclusion I think this is for the best, I would like to conclude that I rate this game, Quiz up by the game developer, Vanilla Corp. A total rating of 8 out of 10 based on the reasons provided/ given above.
Addictiveness
For addictiveness I would give this game a total of 7 out of 10. When I first started playing I had no interest in this game, but as I proceeded in this game, I would out more and more feautres you have provided. The only proble that stopped me from finding these things are due to the fact that I wasn’t able to know where to explore, and in other words what I mean is there are many reasons as to where you may find your interest in, in this game. But in other to do that you have to take and spend some more time here and find it out yourself. I was originally totally not interested in this game, but once I got the ropes of this game I found a lot more to enjoy in this game. In conclusion this is why I would give Quiz up a total rating of 7/10.
