Welcome to the GUN's game guide. You'll find here information necessary to complete the whole adventure. In the first part of this text, I've placed the illustrated walkthrough of all main missions, which are required to finish the game. In the second part, you'll find some clues about optional side-missions (almost the half of all quests available in the game).
The first task (hunting) is nothing else but training. Move along with Ned and just carry out his orders. At the beginning, you'll shoot at some birds. Press LPM and aim the sight on the flying animal. Fire when sight's contours will change from white into red. Second task is almost identical, but this time you need to use zoom and slow motion. Press 'c' and smoothly aim at the next group of birds [1]. After that, you'll have to fight against some wolves [2]. Aim carefully and shoot fast to eliminate them.
Move forward. When you'll find yourself on the rock, take the rifle out (alt) and use zoom (z). Wait for a while. Two deers will leave the forest located in front of you [1]. Shoot them, go down and prepare yourself for the fight with big numbers of wolves. If necessary, use the knife (PPM) in close range combat. A duel with grizzly awaits you at the level's end. Pick up the comrade's rifle and shoot the huge bear down. Remember that hitting in the enemy's head is the most effective way to eliminate him [2].
After taking over the control, shoot the enemies who attacked the ship. Cross the boat's deck and turn right, where you'll encounter several opponents hidden behind wooden chests. Eliminate them, pick up two bottles from the shelf and go east. You'll run into the bandit which is holding the hostage [1], so I recommend using slow motion and firing one, precise shot at the enemy's head. Turn left and kill some more gunmen. Now, move the wooden bar [2].
Go west and take advantage of the cannon located on the left side. Destroy all enemies' boats [1]. After the fight, move in west's direction and clear the whole lower deck from the opponents. Go up the wooden stairs, run up to Ned defending himself, and help him in fighting with some evil gunmen [2].
Next training awaits you now, but this time you'll learn the horse riding. Beginnings are easy - just carry out Tom's orders. First, gallop for a while (LShift), then jump (Space). Ride into the circle located near Tom (your starting position) to take part in the race. When the countdown will reach zero, sprint as fast as you can, taking the only available path (press and hold LShift). From time to time, dug the spurs in the horse's flanks (you should gallop faster) and jump over the obstacles [1]. If you'll be the first on the finish line after three laps, the race should end. If not, you must try again. Your next task is to hunt five bisons, so approach them one by one and use the knife (PPM). After that, pull the rifle out and shoot down the bottles located on the rock [2].
The last part of the training is to fight off the wolves' attack. Use the slow motion and shoot down every animal, which is running in yours direction [1]. Now, you must fight with Tom, who turns out to be not so honest at all. First, eliminate his two comrades, and then kill your recent ally [2]. It's not a hard task, especially when you'll use the rifle.
After reaching the town, visit the bar. Approach the bartender, standing behind the counter [1]. During the conversation, the big gunfight will start, so hide behind the counter and kill all showing up enemies. Take stairs on the right and go up. After another fight, exit the attic. You'll find yourself on the balcony - shoot down some more opponents [2]. Go through the wooden veranda and enter the building back by taking the passage located on the right.
Move through the corridor, hide behind the barrels and start shooting at big group of enemies, which are situated in surrounding rooms. Reach the hall's end, where you'll run into the bandit, who hijacked Jenny. Use the slow motion and shoot directly in opponent's head [1]. After that, you will pick up the new (better) revolver. Head downstairs, kill some more gunmen and approach the oblong hole in the wall [2]. From there, eliminate all attacking enemies (take down the rivals which are carrying torches first - you can't allow them to set the building on fire).
After killing all opponents, exit the building and jump onto the horse standing in front of the bar. Now, shoot down another pack of enemies (again, they're trying to set fire) [1]. The best option is to crush them, so don't waste precious ammunition. The final duel awaits you now, so turn the slow motion on and eliminate Crude and the rest of his gang [2]. Enter the bar and watch the cutscene.
Travel to the bridge (west of the town), approach Patrick Danton and talk with him. You'll get new task: clearing the bridge from the Indians. Go down (path on the right) and start walking to the other side of the river. Be aware of attacking enemies [1]. The best way to eliminate them is to wait, until they'll gather in group and then throw the whiskey bottle (v) or shoot with shotgun. After reaching the other side, go down (winding path on the right) and kill some more opponents from the nearby garrison [2].
Take advantage of the wooden railway carriage. It'll stop in the centre of the bridge so be ready for another gunfight with enemies. After killing them all, pick up all explosive TNT barrels [1] and throw them away (v). Now, enter the wooden train again. After reaching the riverside, take down all Indians hiding behind nearby stone. Leave the carriage, take the route to the top and talk with Danton [2].
Again, you need to go onto the bridge - this time to secure protection for some workers. The biggest Indians attacks will occur from the west [1], but be aware - they'll also climb up the bridge and appear right next to the workers (knife is good option in this situation). The last attack will come from the east. Later, you'll have to shoot in the fire arrows [2] in order to protect the bridge. Use slow motion and destroy them one by one.
Prepare the shotgun and some whiskey bottles for another Indians' assault [1]. Eliminate them as fast as you can (remember that they're able to fire TNT). In the last duel, you'll encounter the tribe's boss [2]. He won't be trying to destroy the bridge, but 'just' to kill you. Fortunately, he's equipped only with short range weapon, so shoot him and retreat for a safe distance. Repeat this schema until the enemy will fall down for good.
Talk to Jenny to get new mission. Your task is to stay in front of the stage coach and quickly remove all encountered dangers. First, you'll run into some Indians after crossing the bridge [1]. More opponents are waiting for you on the bend near huge, rocky boulder [2].
You'll reach the barricaded passage soon. Now, you must move on foot. Move right and prepare yourself for another hard firefight with Indians. After taking them all down, take one of the TNT barrels and leave it near the earlier obstacle. Shoot the barrel from a safe distance [1] to blow up the blockade. Again, ride in front of the carriage and remove new dangers [2].
Unfortunately, the stage coach will be immobilized for a while and your job is to protect it no matter the costs. Hide behind some obstacle and eliminate showing up Indians [1]. When the cart will be repaired, shoot the barrels and get ready for a tough ride. Now, you must kill all encountered enemies from the stage coach's roof. Be also aware of enemy's carts [2]. The best way to destroy them is to hit explosive barrels, which they're transporting. If you'll reach the city in one piece, the mission should end.
Enter the casino and chat with the dude standing in front of the stairs. You'll learn how get to Hoodoo. After talk, get on the horse and ride with two new comrades to the bar. Talk to bartender [1]. The conversation will end due to the fact that some gunmen will start shooting [2]. Of course, eliminate them.
Get on the horse, standing in front of the building and start the pursuit of the escaping bandit [1]. During the ride, you and your comrades will be attacked by the gunslingers' group riding on horses. Use slow motion to shoot them down. After that, you should get to the ranch, where more enemies will try to kill you [2].
After very unpleasant incident on the farm, your recent comrades will now become your enemies. When the firefight will start, enter the barn and attract one of the opponents inside. Hide quickly behind some obstacle and eliminate evil gunmen [1] (shoot in the head). Go outside and try to kill the second enemy (run all the time, so he won't hit you with ease). Use the heaps of hay as effective shelter. After the fight, current mission will end.
After arriving in the town, you'll be unfairly thrown in the jail. Talk to the mate form the cell and wait until the guard will stand back towards the iron bars. Grab him [1]. Approach the door on the right [2] and use the action key on them several times. The door will open. Leave the prison and take all weapons from the desk.
Leave the building by taking the south passage and quietly move in east's direction. Be aware of the guard, which is carrying the torch. If he'll be far away, go behind stones to the horse standing nearby [1]. Get on the horse and ride under the stone bridge [2] situated on the north.
Do exactly the same with two other horses standing in the town and in camps located on it's edges. When the animals will be under the bridge, sneak into the stable on the north [1], throw the whiskey bottle to torch the livery and quickly escape from there. It should be enough to distract the guards. Now, steal the powder keg from behind the powder shop in the centre of the town [2]. Place one of the barrels near the prison's wall. Shoot it from a safe distance to free the prisoner.
Quickly jump onto the horse standing under the bridge and ride through the town with your comrades [1]. Don't waste time and ammunition on shooting, just ride ahead until you'll reach the open area. One of the prisoners will separate from the group, but ride behind the other one. Finally, you should reach the hideout [2].
Get on the horse and move behind Clay. When you'll reach the tunnel, take the TNT barrel from the cart and place it under the rocky boulder [1]. Do the same with two other barrels and move forward. You should arrive near the train (firefight), so take down all defenders [2], and then take care of gunmen on the horses.
Return with Clay to your trap and place the fourth explosive barrel near the rock. Go up, aim at the TNT [1] and patiently wait, until the detonation sign will appear (the meter on the left side of the screen). The train should stop. Eliminate all guards [2], who will run from the carriages. Mission complete.
During the party, your current hideout will be unexpectedly attacked. Move behind the soldier. Take cover and use new shotgun to eliminate distant enemies [1]. Remember to do it quickly - Clay must not be killed no matter what. After first opponents' attack, go down and make use of the gatling gun. You won't have problems with taking care of the approaching cavalry [2].
Now, you must quickly eliminate enemies, who are operating the cannon on the hill [1]. Run fast to the rocks, located on the right side of the river, stick out carefully and kill first enemy (sniper gun). Do exactly the same with the second opponents, who will appear in the same place. Hold the finger on the key being responsible for health's restoration, because your rivals can hurt you before you'll be able to shoot. Move to the nearest hill, kill all encountered enemies and use the cannon to fight off the attack from the north-east [2].
Talk to Port and then ride with him on horses. After reaching your goal, go down the horse and start eliminating enemies from the town's streets [1]. They'll be trying to kill the soldiers, who are transporting the cannon. From time to time, you will also be attacked by enemies located on surrounding buildings' roofs [2], so try to have eyes around the head and simply be the fastest gunmen.
Get ready for the assault of the hostile cavalry [1]. I recommend you to use slow motion and smoothly kill opponents one by one. The next attack will consist of the infantry, so watch out for bullets flying everywhere. After the fight, enter the nearby laundry [2] and go down to the cellar.
Take care of enemies running in the surrounding corridors and turn left on the intersection (on the right, you can enter the room with a few opponents and useful ammunition). Soon, you should reach the room where is being tortured. Kill two guards [1], go inside and untie your comrade [2]. Run to the room, located on the north, where the last battle in this mission awaits you.
In the first order, eliminate the gunmen located below. Then try to hurt Hoodoo as much as you can [1]. He will escape after a while, so run behind him and keep shooting. The duel will be interrupted by the cutscene. After that, use slow motion and smoothly take down this dangerous enemy for good [2].
Jump onto the horse and ride to Dodge. On the bridge in front of the town you will meet the tied sheriff [1]. Free him and move ahead. When you'll reach the water tower, kill all encountered enemies [2] and then climb up the ladder, located on the right side of the building. From the roof, get to the tower's top.
Prepare the sniper rifle and get ready for a tough challenge. Shoot in the string of the gallows located on the other side of the road. Wait until the trapdoor will open and shoot it. After that, eliminate all enemies [1], who can hurt freed convict. After infantry's attack, the cavalry will show up [2], so have the shotgun prepared just in case.
After fighting off the attack, jump down and quickly get on the horse and get rid of the enemies standing in the Soapy's escape way. You should arrive at the marina. Move on the deck and talk to the operator. Then hide behind the crates and use sniper gun to eliminate opponents located above you [1]. Do exactly the same with the other boat, trying to catch you [2].
Get on the horse and ride behind your comrade [1]. When you'll reach the glade, turn left and travel through the wooden gate [2].
Inside the fort, move in north-west direction and quietly get rid of the guard, who is hitting the Indian [1]. Then free another one (he's under the wooden floor on the north, where are some enemies). You can find the last Indian on north-east. Form a group and wait until the soldiers, which are guarding the southern gate will go away. Approach from the back the last opponent and kill him quietly [2].
Go through the gate and quietly follow Indians. Everything is going as was planned - just move behind your new comrades and eliminate some guard from time to time [1]. After a while, you'll reach the iron bar. Soapy will take care of it [2]. Walk inside the cave and fallow Indians.
After leaving the cave, take the bow from the rock and kill the guards standing in front of you (when firing, remember to hold LPM for a while). Go up and take care of all enemies [1], who're defending the fort's entrance. Walk north and (with your comrade) steal two horses. Ride to Indians waiting near the road [2].
Ride on the horse until you'll run into the wooden gate. Ram it (PPM). After entering the open area, help Indians in fighting off the enemy's attack [1]. Try to always run - there're many opponents shooting all the time. After the fight, enter the camp [2] and simply wait for 'mission complete' info.
Start the attack along with other Indians. Run as fast as you can to the earth embankment in front of you and try to move all the time (you shouldn't get hit from the cannon). Eliminate the gatling gun's crew. You'll have the clear way to the north, where the boat is waiting for you [1]. During the cruise, shoot to all enemies standing along the road [2].
Exit the boat at the end of the travel and head to the cave filled with big stones. Go through it, up stairs and quickly hide behind lurking waiting enemies [1]. Move ahead, clean the area and go through the building located on the left. Kill the soldier operating the gatling gun on the right and use it to eliminate the enemies in the fort [2].
Clean the building on the north from enemies, enter it and use the cannon to destroy all four bunkers, located below [1]. Continue you journey to the north, clean the next room with the cannon and destroy some boats, situated in the bay on the left [2]. Travel north again, kill all enemies fighting with Indians in the square on the left and head to the next cannon.
Turn the cannon to the south and shoot into the ammunition's composition - the explosion will create large hole in the wall. Go through some rooms and equip yourself with the dynamite [1]. Enter the square shelled by the opponents' cannon and quickly run to the wooden bridge on the right and then throw the dynamite into the cannon's direction [2]. Repeat this operation, until you destroy it for good. If you'll use all dynamite before the cannon will blow up, return to green chests.
Talk with Indian standing nearby and prepare yourself to the fight against Hollister. He is equipped with the dynamite and the effective rifle, so don't attack him in open space. I've eliminated Hollister after running in the map's centre and hiding behind the stone. When he showed up, I've played in 'cat and mouse' style [1], which means leaning out from the stone, shoot and hide before enemy can shoot back. After decreasing the Hollister's health level, jump down to the valley on the west and start running away, because he'll explode after a few minutes [2].
Head to the destroyed boat's direction, but be aware - the enemy's cavalry will show up. Hide behind some stone and get rid of opponents one by one [1], trying to run all the time (don't be an easy target to hit). After the fight, get onto the wreck of the ship and open the safe. The next gunmen will show up and it will be Reed. Jump on the horse and start fighting [2]. Remember to fire frequently, because Reed is regenerating fast. Take him down and the mission will end.
Head to Dodge, pass through the bridge and find Soapy at the Apache camp, waiting near the body [1]. After the cutscene, move on the high rocky shelf, then travel down (take the nearby path), get on the horse and ride with your comrades. When you'll arrive near small hut on the glade, enemy's cavalry should begin the attack [2]. Eliminate opponents quickly and watch out for your comrades - if anybody dies, then it's end of the mission for you.
After the fight, move behind your comrade [1]. When you'll reach the wooden passage, jump down from the horse and move forward, taking the narrow path. Kill two tigers on the road [2] and head to the hill's top. The next task will end in a success.
Start walking the path to the east, but be careful - there will be many opponents to eliminate. Continue the march and get rid of everyone who will stand in your way [1]. After entering the open space, head to Soapy, lying on the rails [2].
When the cutscene will end, quickly hide behind the boulder on the hill and start eliminating showing up enemies [1]. Be careful and don't lean out too far, because there is an opponents' cannon, behind the bush on the left. To shoot down Dutchie, use sniper gun and fire only when the sight will change color into red. After defeating Dutchie, ride round the train and wipe out remaining riders [2].
It's time for the final mission. Duck and fallow Clay. When you will be shelled, run quickly to the cannon on the left and kill enemies in your sight, especially the ones who're operating the gatling guns placed in windows in front of you [1]. When the platform with the cannon will start moving, shoot in west mines' direction and jump down. Head to the corner of the building on the right and eliminate the opponent using gatling gun [2].
Hit the junction-switch, climb the platform with the cannon and start shooting. There will be some gunmen behind the corner, then the gatling gun and bid, wooden gate [1]. Kill enemies located inside the building and hit the next switch. Use the cannon to get rid of showing off soldiers and then destroy some TNT barrels rolling downhill [2].
After hitting the next switch, turn the cannon at the right side, where some enemies are standing [1]. Continue your journey and shoot everything which will stand in your way. Finally, you should reach the wooden platform. Move it - the carriage will start moving. Use the switch and start killing all showing up opponents [2]. Remember that you cannot let any of your comrades die.
Return to the cannon, destroy the blockade and go through the tight, rocky passage. When enemies will begin to attack from the hill in front of you, just shoot in the explosive barrels. Head up and get rid of the next opponents' group in the square. Get ready for the final duel. Take the bow, duck and hide behind the gold. You can hurt Magruder only when he's moving on the 'geyser' - shoot at it (geyser) with the dynamite bow. The geyser will explode, of course hurting the enemy [1]. When Magruder's health level decreases, he'll run to the rocky shelf. Hit him with the rifle, wait until he throws the large dynamite pack and then use it against him [2]. Do it few times, and the cavern will finally collapse on Magruder. This will end the game's main storyline.
Extra tasks, which are very important part of the game (about 45% of all missions available during the adventure). Completing them isn't important for main storyline, but if you want to complete the game in 100% then you must finish all additional side-missions. You'll get new tasks from people scattered in the entire map and some person can give the player more than one assignment. Not all missions are available at the beginning, some of them will be unlocked after finishing some chapters from the main storyline. Do not be afraid that there's nothing more then credits list after dealing with the final boss - you can travel, shoot, take the next side-missions etc. without any problem later on. All persons, who will give you additional tasks are highlighted on the map. Below I've placed a small legend, so nobody should have troubles with reading the whole plan.
Places, where you can buy some stuff.
Hunting the animals.
Pony Express and Ranch - transporting some objects in specific time limit and driving cattle to the bar.
Deputy and Federal Marshall - supporting sheriffs and helping in the maintenance of order in the area.
Poker - casinos, where you can win some extra cash if you're lucky.
Our main goal is to kill or capture alive the wanted criminal. The second task is harder, but more profitable. To capture somebody, quietly sneak from the back and press PPM. If you decide to take the bounty mission, go to the future fight's place (it's marked on the map) and then take care of the enemy. Below, I have placed two lists. The first one consists of the places, where you can find wanted posters. The other includes criminals' names and the rewards.
1. Dodge - house in front of city's entrance (from the river's direction).
2. On the wooden hut, right behind the train bridge in Dodge.
3. Empire - casino's wall.
4. Empire - onto the house wall located in the city's main street.
5. Wooden hut near the Piper lake.
1. George Mahonee ($10 dead, $15 alive)
2. Johnny Greed ($10 dead, $15 alive)
3. Shifty Sholz ($15 for returning the horse to the rightful owner)
4. Lee Hop Dong ($10 dead, $20 alive)
5. Bloody Belle ($15 dead)
6. Toby 'the Torch' ($15 dead, $20 alive)
7. Mad Dog ($20 alive)
8. Wayland Payne ($20 dead, $30 alive)
9. Bandit Brothers ($20 alive and $20 dead)
10. Blackbird Boys ($30 dead)
11. Bob 'the Blade' ($30 dead)
This kind of missions means that you must reach the specific place as fast as you can. Of course, you'll have the time limit to obey and if you don't make it, then the task will end with no reward. Fortunately, the 'fresh' horses are waiting for the player near the people, who gives Pony Express tasks, so you won't always waste time for searching. This missions are available only in Dodge and Empire.
1. Talk to Tiny Tubs, ride to the shop and return back ($10).
2. Talk to the gunsmith, ride to the ranch, then to the man standing near the Piper lake and - finally - return to the ranch owner ($10).
3. Talk to gunsmith again and then chat with Cletus. Now, you should sprint to some guy near the mine and return tools to the owner ($10).
4. This time Jesse is your employer - the next ride to the mine awaits you ($10).
5. Talk to the salesman and ride to the canyon. After the conversation, win the horse back and continue the work ($20).
1. Just talk to Johnny and set out on a very short journey ($10).
2. Task from Stumpy requires the longer expedition away from the town to the lake's surroundings ($10).
3. Speedy Pete will send you to the rather long journey to the mine ($10).
4. Talk with Webster and start the sprint to Dodge along the railroad ($20).
Deputy are missions in which players take role of the sheriff. They all take place only in Dodge and you'll get them from Danton. Every task consists of three smaller, but all of them are simply just about shooting and killing bad guys.
1. First, kill the thug hanging in the town, then eliminate the bandits fighting near the bridge. Finally, enter the bar and talk with bartender. He'll reveal you the next criminal's current location. Go there and shoot him down ($10).
2. Get rid of gunslingers' gang and go to the port. Take the explosive barrel to the proper building. If you'll need to shoot, simply put it down for a while. The last task is to fight off the assault of the cavalry ($10).
3. Talk to the woman standing near the bridge and convoy her home on the other side of the town. To do the trick, just be a fast shooter and eliminate all showing up enemies. Then get rid of the opponents located near the local saloon. Go upstairs and clean out the attic. Finally, get rid of all enemies on the streets ($10).
4. Take two powder kegs to the pointed place and then head to the end of town. Save the attacked family. Finally, get rid of the opponents standing near the water tower ($10).
5. Rescue hostages, and then make sure that nothing wrong will happen to Snitch. After the escort, eliminate all members of local gang - this time (finally!) for good ($20).
This type of the mission is available only in Empire, however the purposes of tasks are placed on the whole map. This time, you must protect and help some people, who fell into trouble. There will be some killing criminals too ($20).
1. The first assignment takes place in the town. Head to the proper intersection and go upstairs onto the nearby building's roof. Throw down some powder kegs. When the enemies will start the attack, destroy TNT barrels and get rid of remained opponents ($10).
2. Move to the shown district, kill all enemies located on the nearby buildings' roofs. Then climb up the ladder and take the wooden catwalks up to the highest house and grab the object ($10).
3. Ride to the mine and free hostages. You have to aim precisely, because every hostage is being hold by the bandit and the rooms are filled with powder kegs. One bad-thought-out shoot and you'll be forced to repeat whole mission from the beginning ($10).
4. Ride to the place, where the immobilized cart is standing. Talk to the spurious driver and prepare yourself for the tough firefight (remember that the hostage cannot die) and fighting off the cavalry. After the battle, ride on the nearby mountain, dump the TNT barrel down and shoot it to make a new passage ($10).
5. Ride to the proper place and help some settlers in fighting off the enemy's cavalry attack. Act fast, because there will be many opponents to eliminate ($10).
6. Head to the shown building, hunt down Wachowsky and take him to the local prison. During the road, fight off the enemies' attack. Then throw the bad guy into the cell and prepare yourself for three opponents' assaults ($20).
7. Ride to Dodge surroundings and help some settlers to fight off the wolves' attack. Then use whiskey bottles to set nearby heaps on fire ($20).
Typical 'country' tasks in which you must protect cattle and drive it from the pasture to the barn. You'll get all missions from the ranch owner (located on the south of the region).
1. Ride on horse to the nearby pasturage and drive cattle into the pen. Then move to the meadow and chase away all calves to the bull ($10).
2. Ride to the place, where two mustangs are waiting. Destroy wooden fence and run the animals to the rancho's barn ($10).
3. Leave the rancho and ride to the pasturage, where cattle are being attacked by the wolves. Fight them off and wait for the mission's end ($10).
4. Ride west, where the thief's hideout is situated. Eliminate them and bring back founded cattle ($10).
5. Identical task as first, but the cattle is moving in the herd now, so is harder to control it ($10).
6. You have to transport the herd to Dodge. Theoretically nothing difficult, but during the ride you'll be attack by some bandits. Get rid of them quickly - they can't hurt your comrade. Finally, destroy the wooden obstacle placed on the bridge and run the cattle into the town ($10).
7. Escort your boss to Empire (in one piece). During the road, you'll be attacked only once. The enemies will show up from behind of going train, but you shouldn't have problems with dealing with them ($20).
Missions from Indian hunter located near the Piper lake. You'll need to hunt a few animals. To do that, approach your 'target' carefully (don't frighten them away) and shoot precisely in the animal's head.
1. Gray Wolf - near the bridge in Dodge.
2. White Buffalo - near the ranch on the south of the map.
3. White Wolf - near Piper lake.
4. Mountain Lion - mountains near the Indian hunter, who gives these tasks.
5. Great Wolf - in the map's centre.
6. Grizzly - near Empire.
