Daddy was a Thief Hack for Coins & Powerups

Can you name the tallest buildings in the world? You might be thinking of Burj Khalifa or Shanghai tower with several hundred floors, but let me assure you that you are mistaken because the two tallest buildings ever made in the human history are in this game. First one is the bank and the second one is the building adjacent to it. If you had ever played games like Temple Run, Subway Surfers, Ice Climbers etc. then you might be familiar with the term Endless which is used to categorize them. Endless further contains subcategories which includes Endless Running, Endless climbing with new subcategories being introduced almost every day. Daddy was a thief takes the same idea and molds it which will seem impressive at first because instead of running up or ahead it smashes its way down, introducing another subcategory which can be called Endless Fallers.

Daddy was a thief is a game developed by Rebel Twins, and falls into the category of Endless and Arcade games. Rebel Twins are not someone new to games. They have achieved much success with their previous titles and let us see if they are able to do the same with this one. Daddy was a thief is available for both Android and iOS users. Unfortunately it’s not available for Windows Mobile users but they can read this review to find out if this game would have been a good addition to their store or not.

If you are a person who likes Endless games, the idea of this game might appear unique to you and you may or may not like it because it always boils down to the personal preference of an individual. When you will start the game, the first screenshot that appears will tell you about the sad story of a man. A man who is fat, a man who is a husband of an angry woman and a father to a kid. After this kid’s daddy is fired from his job by the ruthless bank. Daddy thinks about his angry wife, who might scold him after getting fired, and his kid, so he decides to rob the bank. To learn robbery he uses the book – Robbery for Dummies. Daddy was all set, he robbed the bank, got on the top of the bank’s building, blasts through the fence and jumped to the one adjacent to it. Now that’s the point where you kick in. Your purpose is to help the daddy to get down safely through uncountable floors, collecting coins and avoiding the obstacles coming in his way.

The first thing that the game asks for is access to google play games, so that the game can save its data online and you don’t have to lose any of it if you change your mobile. Once you are done with the login zone, you will face the menu screen. The initial impressions of this game, especially the menu, can be described with the words like neat and smooth because the menu system is nicely done with impressive color selection and smooth animations to switch between different options.

You will either drag the menu screen towards the left or press shop icon to slide into the shop. The shop is no different than you might have seen in Subway Surfers or Temple Run. It is divided into four different categories namely Player, Powerups, Upgrades and Bank. In Player section you can change daddy’s costume which basically is just a new hat with few of them covering his face partially. All of them are quite humorous, you have to unlock them first before you can buy and put them on his head.

In Powerups you have options for Extra lives, Rocket Blast, Money Doubler, Rainbow Trail, Donut Trail, Extra Ammo, and Extra Fuel. You can buy extra lives for your journey available in different options of x1, x3 or x5. You can try Rocket blast which is just a new name for head start, using it will take you past many floors down at the start of the game. Money Doubler will increase the worth of the coins that you will collect by a factor of 2. Rainbow trail is just a fancy addition and leaves good looking trails behind as daddy makes his way down. Donut Trail will leave trail of donuts. Extra Ammo will give you additional ammo for UFOs. Extra Fuel increases the mileage of your jetpack.

In Upgrades section you have got Money Magnet, Rocket, Super Rocket, Green Elixir, Gold Elixir, UFO, and Jetpack. Money Magnet works by attracting coins towards Daddy. Rocket will take you through few floors quickly. Super Rocket is same as simple rocket just with the addition of magnet to it. Rockets uses gyro sensor for the movement and controlling can be done without any hustles. Drinking Green Elixir will make you strong for a while so that all the attacks done by your enemies are ineffective. Drinking Gold Elixir will make you strong and will also give you the ability to attract coins.

In Bank section you can use your real currency either to get rid of ads and/or purchasing extra coins to help you to get the unlockables. You can pay 2$ to get the ad free version. 12,000 in-game gold coins will cost you 4.99$ and 50,000 in-game gold coins will try to make a hole in your real pocket by asking for 19.99$. You can also get few coins for free i.e. liking them on Facebook or twitter will get you 200 coins each.

Now if you’ll drag the main menu screen towards the right side or press the more icon, you will slide in into another section where you can rate the app, check user stats, change language, see achievements etc. further dragging or touching stats icon will get you into user stats section you can see the total time you spent playing this game, the lowest number of floor you reached. Your total and highest score can also be checked from here.

It’s time to rescue that poor kid’s daddy. After robbing the bank he will jump off to a building right next to the bank. While he is on the world’s second tallest building you have to help him in this escape. Daddy was a Thief will guide you once about the controls. You can just swipe up or down the screen. Swiping up will let you collect things and swiping down will cause the fat daddy to smash himself with the floor to break it and move to a lower floor. Daddy will continuously be moving left and right, changing its course whenever it hits anything. Every floor is of different color and contains different house hold stuff like fridge, water tub, gas cylinder, washing machines even televisions. If you smash the fridge you will get a temporary shield for protection, if you land on a gas cylinder, it will explode destroying many other things which will release more coins for you. You will be impressed by water tub, landing on it will help you to get through six or seven floors while collecting coins and destroying everything which comes in its way.

That’s not it, in every floor you will find either ninja granny, angry grandpa, police officer or other criminals. None of them is your friend, ninja granny of this game might be the most powerful grandma that you’ll ever see because with one mere kick she will send you back up by three floors. Police officer is trying to do his duty over here, if you will go near him, he’ll tape you up in a small box. Criminals are criminals, they steal from everyone and these ones are not any different. They will try to shoot you down so you better watch out. You will also find laser in few floors which will shrink you into a tiny fat daddy. You will remain in this condition for a while and you have to smash the floor twice to break it. Missiles are there too, they will also kill you instantly and aims directly on you if you stay on a same place for more than few moments.

As you move down you will come across floors filled with water and casinos too. In watery floors you have to keep yourself in the middle and as you swipe-swim your way down. After robbing the bank, daddy wouldn’t mind emptying a casino or two. In casinos, the environment will switch to that of pinball and daddy will be the ball. You will not have control over the daddy anymore you just have to wait till he collides and breaks red and blue colored chips before getting down. If he successfully breaks all of them then the casino will empty its vault.

There is also experience level system in this game. You will need experience points to get to a higher level. All you have to do is just play the game, try to break your own record to get experience points. If you want a fast raise in experience level there are missions available to give you a boost. You can check these mission by pausing the game. The missions include the likes of reaching a specific number of floor, collecting a designated amount of coin or defeating a sum of those policemen. You might have noticed that you have not encountered magnet, rocket, Elixir or any of the upgrades yet because you have to unlock and purchase them first, then they will appear during game play.

Ratings

Game Play: I’ll give Daddy was a Thief 6/10 here. You will feel like the developers took games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run and Ice Climbers, put them in grinder and gave you an overly done mixture of all these but this game is not without its moments. The controls of the game are simple. Speed of daddy coupled with increasing obstacles will make clearing lower floors difficult. There is a bug in the game that sometimes daddy gets stuck in between obstacles, sometimes in the corners of the broken floor and nothing can be done to make him move. At that moment all you can do is wait for the rocket to kick you out or just quit the game yourself. There is also a goof that when daddy is in his shrunk mode everything requires multiple hits but bath tub doesn’t and also the effective floor travel length remains unchanged.

Game’s artwork: Daddy was a Thief gets 7.5/10 in this section which is a decent score. The animations and all the artwork have been top notch from the start. The way the menus changed with smoothness leaves a good mark. All the characters are beautifully designed. Every floor has different color which makes sure that you don’t get bored from them. Maybe we are forgetting the rainbow and donut trails which are cool too. The game might be lacking but the artwork isn’t that place.

Sound and SFX: I’ll give this game 7/10 for its impressive sound quality. There are many places where this game might be lacking but visuals and sound effects aren’t one of them. Transitional sound between menus is good, the background music doesn’t gives the feeling of being repetitive. Every gun makes unique sound, you’ll be impressed by ‘Hoiyaa!!’ of granny. All the sound effects perfectly matches the scenario, right from robbing till he dies out, everything is sugar.

Storyline: Daddy was a thief scores 6/10 here. Story is just an average one, where a dad had lost his job and after getting fired he tries to rob the bank he used to work in but never makes out of there alive. Maybe they are trying to give a moral lesson over here that ‘bad guys never ends in good state’.

Addictiveness: I’ll give this game 5/10 for its addictiveness. For a day or two the game will appeal to you but after that game will be left with nothing to attract you. Everything except sound will start to give feeling of repetition which will stop you from opening this game again. Until unless you have loads of free time and no other game in your device you might open this one up again. Develops needs to add different varieties of missions though updates to make sure that this game doesn’t lose its mark.

Overall I’ll give Daddy was a Thief 6/10. I personally believe that, instead of being an endless faller, this game would have suited more to simple arcade category where you have to rob different banks with varying difficulty. Introduction of new family members as selectable characters would have been appealing too.
