2014 FIFA World Cup is the main game mode of this EA Sports production. It let you play the final tournament with 32 qualified teams. Thanks to that, you can also let other team play in the World Cup (or more, without necessity of playing the qualifiers).
You begin game from choosing one of available teams. In any moment you can switch teams which take part in the World Cup. After a double confirmation you move to another screen...
...where you can see the final tournament groups. Here you can swap two representations with "Swap Teams" buttons or make new random groups with "Shuffle".
Confirming the choice of one of the teams moves you to the mode menu where you can look through the fixture, read about other teams' matches and make changes before the next match. Good luck in playing for the World Cup!
"Road to the FIFA World Cup" module is and expansion of the previous module. Here, besides the final tournament, you can play through the qualifiers to the World Cup Brazil. You can choose any of 203 teams which are available.
You begin from choosing the continent of your qualifiers. Then choose the team you'd like to control.
After that you move to the next screen where you can choose between two options of drawing groups. First one, "Real", let you play qualifiers with the real existing groups, which have already ended their road to the World Cup 2014. While "Custom" let you switch things between groups or randomize totally new groups.
After making your choice, you'll see a set of tables where you can make changes.
After confirming all options, game moves you to the panel where you can call players, look at the fixture or make changes of tactics and squad. What is left is to wish you good luck on the Road to the World Cup!
"Captain Your Country" is a special edition of "Be a Pro" known from FIFA 14, where you can control a single player and step by step help him gain achievements and trophies. In this case, your goal is to become your representation captain. But before it happens, you'll have to fight for the place in the first squad of reserves and then get to the first squad. Your progress depends on the notes and other players' opinions, which are affected by your playing, goals, assists, teamworking and passes.
You begin this mode from choosing your nationality. For this guide, I've chosen Poland.
Game let play up to four players in this mode. Each player chooses his player, but all of them must be from the same team. You can also play without other players being present: in that case, CPU will play for them.
Another screen let you choose the type of the player. "Create a Player" allows you to make a completely new player, using the rich editor where you can edit many various things.
Option "Use an existing player" gives you a possibility of taking control over the already existing player from the particular representation. For this guide, I've chosen Grzegorz Krychowiak from French Stade Reims. Another screen let you choose the elimination path for your representation. First one, "Real", let you play qualifiers with the real existing groups, which have already ended their road to the World Cup 2014. While "Custom" let you switch things between groups or randomize totally new groups. After making your choice, you'll see a set of tables where you can make changes.
After creating a new file, you see a control panel. Now you can see your main rivals to the squad, news and also fixture.
Few more words about "Rankings". You find here a list of all players which are within the interest of the national coach. It's divided onto six groups and your task is to get as high as possible. On each of six stages you have other rivals. Value of "Rank" determines your chances of your promotion. It helps you also know which place you occupy at the moment. Very important is also number of matches after which the coach will decide about your future. Remember to check how many matches you have to play. Good luck !
In 2014 FIFA World Cup we can find several new things which affect the game. Besides changes concerning the penalty kicks and quick tactics at corners (described in the subchapters), producers changed also the ball's physics. Thanks to the cooperation with Adidas, EA Sports have made the whole new system of ball's movement according to which we're forced to pass it even more precisely. Game requires even more careful decisions about the direction and strength of pass and shot. Even a small miscalculation will cause a turnover or you'll have problems with the reception for example. CPU opponents will gladly use your mistakes, by attacking your players and overtake them to the ball. As you can see, you need to get use to the new physics and the practice will make you a master.
It's hard to tell if goalkeeper's gestures have any impact onto the CPU players' concentration.In 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, producers make penalty kicks more entertaining by adding four animation with which you can try distract opponents; your goalkeeper may make some specific gestures. Thanks to that, you may feel like Jerzy Dudek during the memorable Champions League final from 2005 between Liverpool and AC Milan. There are four defense options:
- pressing pass you make a squat with hips moving;
- pressing cross you move slightly and show the empty area next to you to the attacker;
- pressing shot you point the direction of the shot with your finger;
- pressing through ball you make a jump and wave with your hands
With this edition of FIFA, you can use special quick tactics while performing corner kicks. Thanks to that, you can easily make your playstyle more variable and surprise enemy. You get an access to quick tactics menu by pressing down on D-Pad. You'll see following options:
- D-Pad down - "Run Near Post" - players attack closer, near post so make a shorter, but stronger cross;
- D-Pad right - "Edge of Box Run" - players move nearby the box, which is a good opportunity for shot from distance;
- D-Pad left - "Crowd the Keeper" - players try to make goalkeeper's life as hard as possible and focus on the goal field. Sometimes ball just slide into the goal;
- D-Pad up - "Run Far Post" - players focus on attacking the far post, so play a long cross over the goalkeeper.
"Story of Qualifying" module let you play 60 scenarios on all continents which are reminder of the most interesting episodes from the real qualifiers to the World Cup Brazil 2014. Here you can repeat those events or change the outcome of the match. Each match begins in the different phase and gives you different tasks. Depending on the difficulty level you've chosen, game offers rewards. In most cases it's virtual currency of EA Sports, which can be used in EA Sports Football Club.
