Grand Theft Auto V – Street Racing Guide

There are many different types of racing available in Grand Theft Auto V. Street racing is the most common one, and it’s the kind of race players will be most familiar with. You can start doing these races fairly early on in the game, after completing Hao’s mission “Shift Work”. All five races can only be found between 20:00 and 5:00. You’ll need to win at least one street race in order to get the trophy or achievement “Multi-Disciplined”. Winning also gets you some serious cash. Ready to get started? General Tips

Only Franklin can complete these street races, but that works to your advantage as he has the highest driving skill right off the bat. You can also use his special ability to gain an advantage in any street race. Use it to get through any tough cornering or narrow areas.

Your car will also have a big impact on the race. Upgrade your car at Los Santos Customs to make sure your vehicle will give you the best chance at winning a race. Consider upgrading your transmission, suspension, braking, and turbo for best results.

Like other races, trying to eliminate the competition will automatically disqualify you. Don’t shoot your weapon at any other drivers or cars or you’ll have to start over and you’ll lose your original entry fee.

South Los Santos

This race can be found in South Los Santos. The starting line is right on Chamberlain Hills. Pay the $100 entry fee to get started. Be aware that you’ll need to cross railroad tracks and drive amongst traffic in this race. Complete the two laps and finish first to win $450.

City Circuit

Start this race in Vinewood. It’s very long and will cover 60 checkpoints total. The entry fee is $500. You’ll only need to finish one lap, so make sure you can hold the lead before crossing the finish line. If you win, you’ll get the $2250 reward.

Airport

This race will send you in a loop around the airport and the Maze Bank Arena. Each lap has 27 checkpoints. The entry fee is $1000 for this one. Complete the two laps and win the race to take home $4500. 

Freeway

This race begins in East Los Santos, in the La Mesa area. You’ll race around the Olympic Freeway in this one. The entry fee is $1250. Pay it to get started on this two lap race. Each lap has 23 checkpoints. Use Franklin’s special ability as needed and finish first to get $5625.

Vespucci Canals

This is a motorcycle race that starts in Vespucci on Invention Court. Pay the $1500 entry free to get started. Use Franklin’s ability to help you navigate through narrow passages and sharp turns. Finish the two laps and end up in first to take home the prize of $6750.
