Bosses

As in most games, bosses are what give you the most experience and the best loot. After you finish a mission, feel free to go back and clear the same one again in order to see what kind of loot you can get from that boss. The extra glimmer you'll get is always worth it too. You can also find bosses to fight in the open world. Go ahead and search them out to see if you can find some rare loot!

The Cryptarch

The Cryptarch is a shop located in The Tower. This vendor will sell you weapons and armor based on your level, but there is a catch. You have to buy them randomly – you don't know what you'll get! When you spend Glimmer on purchases here, the level of the Cryptarch goes up, and when it does, the equipment he sells will get better. You can also give him Cryptograms to increase the level!

Engrams

Engrams will level up with your characters, so you should hold onto them until you have a specific upgrade you want or need. That way, the level with either match or exceed yours.

Experiment with Classes

There are three main classes in the game, Titan, Warlock, and Hunter. Try each one to see what you feel most comfortable playing as. Don't forget that you can use the skill trees to customize your class to your own personal play style.

Explore

Exploring the environment is a great way to find rare items, get money, and get Golden Chests. Don't just rely on multiplayer matches or solo missions – check out the exploration mode if you want to find all kinds of neat stuff!

Golden Chests

Golden chests will not level up with your characters, so it's best to find all 5 as quickly as possible. Then, you'll unlock a sparrow that will help you move around faster.

Heavy Weapon

In addition to a primary weapon and special weapon, you have a heavy weapon. Ammo for this weapon is rare. It will drop in competitive multiplayer maps and can be found in purple ammo boxes in other modes. If you or a teammate finds a heavy ammo crate and opens it while other players are around, ammo will drop for everyone. If you can, wait for your comrades to be nearby so everyone can get ammo.

Leveling Items

Uncommon weapons and armor will level up as you use them. This can give you an extra boost, especially since certain items will unlock special bonuses when they reach certain levels. Make sure you are checking your gear regularly, and use gear that will level for the best boost.

Losing Ammo

You can change your weapon loadout at any time, but beware – there is a cost. You'll lose all your special and heavy ammo when you do. Try to be smart about when you change your loadout so you don't lose too much ammo.

Public Events

Once a day, you can complete a public event for a special reward. When a public event is about to happen, the ground will tremble and the sky will turn dark. After you complete it, return to The Tower and talk to the Post Master for your rewards.

Special Abilities

Each character will have a special ability. Using this power will not only help you, but it can help your comrades as well. Using a special ability can generate an orb of light, which will let your teammates regenerate their own special ability more quickly. Use your charged special powers when it's available and share the power!

The Vault

You have a vault where you can store all your items, and this vault stores all the items for all your characters. Make good use of your vault – if you find something on your Hunter character that your Titan could use, save it! Don't forget to check your vault for equipment that your other characters might benefit from.

Weapons

Don't rely on one single type of weapon, whether you are playing solo or multiplayer. It's fine to have a primary weapon, but you'll want to have other weapons for certain situations where your primary weapon may not be the ideal choice. At least have 2 or 3 choices of different weapons available so you won't find yourself in a bind.
