Tales of Xillia is the latest PlayStation 3 entry to the popular JRPG Tales series. Like the other entries before it, Tales of Xillia features several different optional bosses for the player to defeat throughout the game. These bosses can give you great rewards and a large experience boost if you manage to defeat them. Read on to discover where to find these bosses and how you can beat them.
Before you can fight these enemies, you need to gather all 23 Mysterious Jewels. When you have them, go to the Xiailan Woods Temple. You will then fight both enemies in one battle. Use L1 to check their specific elemental weakness, and be aware that they may use instant death abilities. Defeating the enemies will net you a lot of experience and gold, and the side quest will reward you with unique artes.
Dranzort is a dragon-like beast that is found at the bottom of Tatalian Abyss. He can’t be fought until after Chapter 4, and your party should be about level 60. To reach him, you will first need to do the side mission in the caves area. He is weak to wind elemental artes. When defeated, Dranzort drops Milla’s weapon, called Dranduo the Howling Beast.
Folzam is a flying harpy located in Bermia Gorge. This creature is mostly orange with large wings. Folzam is weak to earth elemental attacks, so ensure you have some strong earth powers to use in the battle. Fighting this boss after level 55 will ensure a smooth victory. Winning will net you the weapon Folzex the Grudge-Bearer for Jude.
Near the end of the game or after the ending, the player can take a side quest to kill golems in Fort Gandala. This is a tough battle, as you need to fight four strong golems as once. Try to focus on one at a time to take them out more quickly. The battle alone gives you quite a bit of experience and gold, and you’ll receive rewards for completing the side quest as well.
Gatrega is a large hound-type monster Xagut Floodmeadow. Look in the southeast areas. He is striped with a long tail. This creature is weak to dark powers, so bring someone with dark elemental artes. Try fighting this boss around level 55. If you are successful, Gatrega will drop Elize’s weapon called Tregatoria the Bellowing Demon.
This is the toughest boss in the game. It is found in the bonus dungeon Magnus Zero. He is found at the very bottom of the dungeon. It is best to be around level 90 before challenging him. The enemy has three difficult phases in which the Golden Mage Knight will split and eventually become three separate opponents. The reward for beating this challenging enemy is the ability to continuously upgrade the Devil’s Arm weapons for the characters, allowing them to max out their damage.
Melanbron is some type of lightning based two-legged creature. It is found on the 14th floor of the Heliosborg Fortress. Since it is lightning based, use water attacks for maximum damage against the creature. Fighting it around level 60 is the best choice for success, and you can only find him after Chapter 4. After defeating Melanbron, you’ll receive Melandetra the Deathbringer, a weapon for Rowen.
Roparde is located in the Old Vicalle Mine. This creature is large and stands on two legs. It will change what element it is weak to, so continually check using the L1 button and attack accordingly. Use a party that will include a wide variety of elemental attacks. It is best to try to fight him around level 60. Defeating Roparde gives you a weapon for Leia called Pavent the Incanter.
Schweiss is located in the Xailan Woods, usually near the entrance to the Temple. Look for a four legged spiky creature, almost like a horse. He is weak to fire, so have someone in your party with fire skills for maximum damage. You should be around level 60 before trying to fight him. After winning the battle, you will receive a weapon for Aselia called Vicehein the Howler.
