Are you a huge PlayStation fan? Is your PlayStation 4 (which we’ve reviewed) your go-to gaming hub? Do you have all the accessories for PlayStation products on your shelf? If so, you’re in luck, because today we’re going to show you places where you can get together with your fellow Sony faithful.
Whether you want to get help with an issue, talk theory about your favorite games, discuss rumors, or just bash the Xbox crowd, here are online forums where you’ll find plenty of PlayStation people.
What better place to start than with the official PlayStation forums? Here you’ll find all kinds of categories to chat about with other PS fans; at the time of writing, 6,289 users were online and over three million conversations were open, so there’s something for everyone to sink their teeth into.
A variety of topics are available, including dedicated pages for support and an offtopic section if you’d rather discuss something not related to gaming. The most popular franchises on PlayStation, such as Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet, each have a page with various sub-pages. Want to make friends for The Last of Us multiplayer or check out fan art of Uncharted 2? You’ll be right at home on Sony’s forums.
Rounding out the available resources is an upcoming events section, where you can see what the PlayStation MVPs have planned. For example, Starhawk Wednesday is a weekly event where 32 players all join a match and can talk to anyone in the lobby – if you’re tired of solo gaming and want a more social experience, jump into one of these events. Maybe you’ll even make a new friend!
GameFAQs is the best resource for walkthroughs, cheats, reviews, and questions on your favorite games. Each game and system also has a message board, and you’ll find most modern titles are active. The PS4 board and PS3 board are likely your best bet for fast responses, but you can search for any PlayStation game on the site and check out its forum page, too.
If you aren’t already using GameFAQs, this is a perfect way to get started. You can use it to track your collection and even write your own reviews, but the boards are amazing for having someone explain a game’s ending in simple terms, getting help for a specific challenge, or just talking in-depth about game lore.
This thread on Ocarina of Time’s dungeons is a perfect example of why I love GameFAQs and the interesting discussions that can develop; there are few other places this will happen. Try reading something here; even if you don’t contribute, you’ll get something out of it!
Reddit is a world where you can find a community based on almost anything – and while gaming is no exception, we’ve found some of the weirdest for your entertainment. The site can be difficult to figure out if you’re a newcomer, so check out our Reddit guide to learn the basics, or just stick with the PlayStation subreddits laid out here.
The PS medareddit page collects the best-known PlayStation subreddits, so if you’re looking for a specific niche, that’s a great place to search. Popular subs related to PlayStation include PS4, PS3, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation (general), and Trophies (check out the easiest Platinum trophies to earn if you’re a collector).
Reddit allows for both submissions of links and text posts, so a question or discussion is as welcome as a link to news or a gameplay video. Popular content gets submitted to Reddit rather quickly, and nobody likes a duplicate post, so think twice before sharing that new game trailer.
Rounding out our list is another community for PlayStation folks to visit and chat all they like. IGN has boards for all different consoles, games, and interests; they’ve lumped all PlayStation posts into one place, except for posts about the Vita and PSP, Sony’s handhelds.
These forums are pretty standard. There are a few sticky posts for you to find friends, talk about upcoming games, and share your best screenshots; the rest is up to the community. If the topic on your mind didn’t garner any discussion on the other sites, give this one a visit. Failing that, get something started in the comments below!
Now PlayStation fans of all kinds know where to find their brethren. If none of these scratched your itch for community, remember that you can always create your own subreddit, or check out Grouvi for message boards built around specific topics.
If you haven’t broken into the world of PlayStation yet, check out our review of the PlayStation TV, a low-cost device that allows you to access part of the library of Vita games. We’ve looked at message boards for iOS gamers, too.
