Video Games Watch Dogs vs GTA V

Gamers have been waiting for close to two years now for the release of two highly anticipated games; Watch Dogs from Ubisoft and Grand Theft Auto V from Rockstar. Each title has received plenty of speculation from media forums and veteran gamers, so how do the two games stack up?

Watch Dogs

This next generation game, revealed at Ubisoft's E3 press conference in 2012, caused a flurry of excitement. Over the last year, as more information has gradually come to light, a cocktail of anticipation and scepticism seems to have settled in. The open world action-adventure game certainly looked incredible at the E3 conference, with crisp graphics and a smooth engine comparable to Assassins Creed, but concerns about plot and gameplay have been raised too. The storyline plays with the idea of information warfare, set in a dystopian Chicago controlled by a supercomputer known as "CtOS" (Central Operating System). The plot punts causality decision-based gameplay, allowing the player to complete objectives in a variety of ways. Although this non-linear factor is quite attractive, one need not look further than the disappointment of Deus Ex: Human Revolution to see where the faults lie with decision-based gameplay. The game is due for release on November 19th and can be played on a range of consoles including the Xbox One and Playstation 4.

GTA V (Grand Theft Auto V)

The last offering from the GTA empire was in 2008, with GTA IV set in the fictional city of Los Santos. Rockstar's GTA series has been wildly successful, being the first to offer that type of open world, action-adventure gameplay. This fifth instalment is set to be a continuation of GTA IV and promises of it being the biggest open world game to date, with three playable protagonists, has folks itching with anticipation. Rockstar has been decidedly tight-lipped regarding information about the game, releasing videos sporadically since the game's announcement in October 2011. Rockstar revealed that there has been a marked improvement in the shooting and driving mechanics as well as unlockable skills for each protagonist. In short, GTA V promises a bigger and better instalment of the series. The release date has been set for September 17th and is compatible for play on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar is yet to confirm if it will be available for PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
