How To Make The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Run On A Low Spec Gaming Laptop/PC At 30FPS

Do you own a low-spec gaming PC? Are you willing to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt even though you can make it through the minimum requirements? Don't worry, we've got some great news for you thanks to the Low Spec Gamer video you can see below. Low Spec Gamer managed to make the game run on this configuration (it's a laptop):

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CPU: Dual-core 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7-2637M
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

There are a couple of tips you can follow, in fact, to have the game running on your PC, even though it shouldn't be up to this great challenge, according to CD Projekt RED, at least. First of all, through the in-game settings, set the resolution to 1024x768, which is the minimum allowed, then put everything to low in terms of graphics and post-processing. This way, the game will run at 15fps approximately, but that's not enough for us.

So, go to this page and grab the Witcher 3 Hunter's Config, a tool you can use to optimize all the settings of the game, not just those CD Projekt RED wants you to see. Basically, there you have to disable all the rendering effects, and bring shadows and textures as low as they go. By doing this, you will gain a couple of frames, reaching a maximum of 18fps. Not enough? Disable the decals, cascade shadowmap, global ocean quality, grass and foliage to reach up to 24fps.

If you're a Steam user, go to SteamApps folder, then Common and replace the “config” folder with the one the program will give you once you're done with the configuration.

The last steps: go to documents, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, then “user” – it's a text file. Here you can fix all the parameters that would otherwise be blocked by CD Projekt RED. For example, you can bring the resolution lower than 1024x768, let's say 800x600. Choose the borderless windowed mode to get back a few fps, then bring settings like lights shadow, cascade shadow distance scale, max terrain shadow, cascade mapshadow, foliage distance scale from 1 (or their value if it is bigger) to 0.

Acting this way, for what we have seen in the video, you will have the game running at a maximum of 31fps (and at a minimum of 22), which is pretty good considering that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt frame-rate is not perfect neither on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Give this a try and let us know if you have a low spec PC!
