FIFA 12 Trick Guide

Looking for the latest FIFA tricks? Check out our FIFA 13 Tricks Guide!

FIFA 12 is another superb entry to the long-running EA Sports series. It’s as tactical and as slick as ever, but it also comes with greater selection of trick moves that really give you an advantage on the pitch.

We’ve taken it upon ourselves to list every single trick here – with move-sets direct from the game itself. We also have a list of  tricks in FIFA Street.

First things first: all the tricks and skills listed on this page are from the PS3 version of FIFA 12 and relate to the in-game perspective you play in the FIFA 12 menu screen (as above) – you’ll need to compensate if you play left-to-right, or your player finds himself at a strange angle.

1 Star Moves

The basics – want to perform tricks in FIFA 12? You’ll need to learn to love the L2/LB button – hold it down to perform all of the tricks here – and it you start tapping R1/RB you’ll be doing keepie-uppies in no time.

2 Star Moves

Two star skills are perfect for dummying and taunting opponents – simple stepovers and feints will send defenders the wrong way and entice the opposition to dive in.

3 Star Moves

This is where things get a little more technical, and mistakes can cost you the ball. The roulette isn’t very robust, but looks beautiful – remember Zinedine Zidane’s Marseille turn? If you can pull it off you’ll be sailing past defenders in no time. Fluff it up and you’ll be on your backside. Without the ball. Watch it below:

The fake and go is the most dependable 3 star trick – show the ball to the defender and drop a shoulder one way, then go another – very handy when used effectively.

4 Star Moves

Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Nani – 4 star moves put you in the superstar league. The simple rainbow has players looping the ball from behind over their own head and can be a sublime way to take the ball past someone.

Then there’s the heel chop, which enables pacy wingers to change direction with the ball at their feet – without giving away where they’re going to defenders – check it out below:

Other scoops, feints and flicks are great for simply mesmerising and dummying the opposition without losing too much control of the ball.

5 Star Juggling Tricks

Heel Chop

How to do it: Hold LT/L2 then flick the right stick back diagonally twice.

Who can do it: Any player with a four-star or greater skill rating.

What it does: You can do it at full speed and it’s a good way to change direction quickly.

Rainbow Flick

How to do it: Hold LT/L2 and then flick the right stick back once and forward twice.

Who can do it: Any player with a four-star or greater skill rating.

What it does: It’s actually hard to pull off but if you nail it, it allows you to volley the ball hard and score spectacular goals. Can also be used to beat an oncoming keeper.

Roulette

How to do it: Hold LT/L2 then flick the right stick back and then rotate 270 degrees in either direction.

Who can do it: Any player with a three-star or greater skill rating.

What it does: Really effective against aggressive defenders. You can do it at speed so there’s no loss of momentum. You’ll also shield the ball while doing it.

Turn and Spin

How to do it: Hold LT/L2 and then flick the right stick forward and then to either the right or left.

Who can do it: Any player with a five-star or greater skill rating although players with four-stars will do a variation of the trick.

What it does: Enables you to cut inside at speed and make space for crosses and shots.
